The FSU CARD-Teacher Collaboration is offered for school personnel seeking information and strategies to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in their classroom. CARD-Teacher Collaborations are tailored to the needs of the school professional and students. Collaboration begins with an initial meeting to determine possible goals, intensity, and duration of the collaboration. An initial classroom observation by a CARD consultant may be beneficial. The teacher and CARD consultant will collaborate to develop strategies that support students. The teacher will implement the strategies and meet with the CARD consultant to discuss efficacy and adjustments needed. The CARD consultant is available to visit the classroom as strategies are implemented and coach the teacher through possible modifications. Possible goals may include: Support positive behavior Improve communication Expand students’ roles Foster independence Enhance social communication skills Accelerate progress with academic activities Facilitate peer interactions Advance play skills Ease transitions Promote inclusion CARD will provide documentation of time spent in the collaboration for teachers who wish to work with their district representative to obtain teacher educational credits, continuing education credit, or in-service credit. CARD services are available free of charge to clients and families as well as to schools and community agencies that serve our clients. CARD offers professional trainings and provides current information about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In addition, CARD offers consultations and coaching opportunities to help develop strategies to support an individual at home, school, or in the community.
