PRESENTED BY ALTAIR The 2017 Prius Prime liftgate, the 2017 Lexus LC side doors and luggage door feature CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) inner panels. These are combined with PP, Aluminum and GFRP outers, achieved weight reduction from metal structure. CFRP is the sheet molding compound (SMC) material dispersed with centimeters-long carbon fibers. These panels are formed in-house using heat stamping process. These are Toyota’s first applications of CFRP to non-exotic vehicles and resulted in significant weight savings. The 2017 Prius Prime liftgate, the 2017 Lexus LC side doors and luggage door feature CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) inner panels. These are combined with PP, Aluminum and GFRP outers, achieved weight reduction from metal structure. CFRP is the sheet molding compound (SMC) material dispersed with centimeters-long carbon fibers. These panels are formed in-house using heat stamping process. These are Toyota’s first applications of CFRP to non-exotic vehicles and resulted in significant weight savings.
