Narrative structure This is a open, single stranded and non circular documentary.

◦Open – the reason for this is because there I no definitive ending

◦ Single stranded - this documentary is purely about caravans and has no other topic.

◦Non linear – there is no chronological order.

Camera work◦ Interviews – in the interviews with caravan lovers, the conventional rule of thirds is

used so the interviewee can talk into the provided space. Medium shots and close ups are used when interviewing.

◦ Tracking shots – tracking shots were used in this documentary few times to show the caravans on the road following their travel.

◦Hand held – hand held cameras are used for all the observational footage throughout, so there is room for the camera operator to view and capture all surrounds to show that this documentary is real and no set up.

◦ Shots – medium, close ups, long shots, establishing shots, reflective

Mis-en-scene◦ Prop – throughout the documentary you see a variety of caravans, this prop is

highly relevant and used all the way through.

◦ Lightning – natural lighting is used throughout the whole documentary, especially in the observational footage, a lot of the documentary is filmed in the day light outside, therefore there is the sense of realism.

◦ Place/background/set – all filmed places are relevant to the themes including: travelling in cars and caravans, caravan parks and British country.

Sound◦ Voice over – the purpose of the voice over in this documentary is to provide factual

information and tell the story to the audience. Voice overs are known as the “voice of god” as you can not see the person but can hear the guidance.

◦Dialog - from interviews and observational footage

◦ Incidental music – incidental music is put in to open the documentary and also the type of music is relent to the times shown.

Editing ◦ Cuts – the cuts from this documentary are quick, fast past to keep the audience

interested and holding there attention. Jump cuts and cut always were also used throughout.

◦Montage – montage of archive footage and observation footage are used to keep the audience interested in the caravan craze.

◦Question edits - the questions are edited out in the interviews so it seems like the interviewee gets straight to the point, it also looks more realistic to not be shown asking the questions as it may seem like a set up.

Archive footage ◦ Videos and pictures were used from the past of caravans and where people used to

take them. Pictures were shown also, and when shown the camera would zoom in and out of the achieve material.

◦ It was used to keep the audience interested.
