This combined with extensive experience of refitting older vessels has given me all the necessary skills to manage any aspect of a large yacht project. Motor or Sail, from the earliest concept, through successful completion of warranty and many flawless years of cruising.
I have always had a keen interest in design and I strive to create vessels that are beautiful, both aesthetically and practically. A well thought out and managed vessel, is a safer, more efficient and more harmonious environment for Guests and Crew. Resulting in greater long-term crew stability, lower maintenance costs and a happier ownership experience.
I believe achieving a positive experience is a large part in developing and maintaining the long-term value of a Yacht for an Owner. I work hard to develop that value and reputation through professionalism and excellence in every aspect of the vessel.
My Crew and I have an excellent reputation within the charter world and we bring that level of service and skill to all our operations of the vessel, whether Private or Commercial. Using our extensive knowledge of the business and cruising areas to provide the very best in yachting. I am sure I can make an Owner’s experience of their dream yacht, a rewarding and enjoyable process for many years to come.
March 2012 – August 2015 Project Manager/ Captain – M/Y ARIANNA, Delta Marine 49.9m(164ft) I was hired to complete the build of this full displacement 50m from Delta Marine and get her functioning with minimal crew turnover. Part of the brief was to help promote the vessel while developing a charter program to offset running costs. Featured to date in over 136 publications, Arianna has been extensively chartered throughout the US East Coast, Bahamas and Caribbean. Gaining a superb reputation with a list of very high quality Clients.
The charter program has been so successful that the vessel has covered the majority of ownership expenses. Additionally the vessel has been used for extensive promotion of the Owner’s Businesses. Regularly hosting parties of 100 – 200 guests. All of the vessel chartering and promotion has been achieved by direct marketing through the Owner’s Family Office with myself playing a key role in that strategy.
October 2007 – January 2012 Project Manager/Captain M/Y SATORI, Heesen 49.8m (164ft) and M/Y SKY, Heesen 50.5m (167ft) Over a period of 4 years I Project Managed and Captained, the two most cutting edge and design oriented yachts Heesen Yachts had built at that time. I was extensively involved in all aspects of these vessels from concept through purchase and design, planning and construction, to final delivery.
M/Y SKY represented a huge leap forward for Heesen in design and customization. I was integral in helping turn the concepts of a first time Owner and first time Yacht Interior Designer into a usable reality. I thoroughly refined and upgraded the original Build Specification and Design to produce a practical, beautiful and state of the art worldwide cruising vessel.
M/Y SATORI has since handover in May 2011 been featured on 37 Magazine Front Covers around the world. In large part based upon a photoshoot and promotion strategy I devised. Additionally, she has received 7 major design awards including the WORLD SUPERYACHT AWARD for Best 50m, the MONACO BOAT SHOW ‘Prix du Design’ and the YACHTS FRANCE award for Best 50m and Best Interior. In a year when Heesen launched 6 vessels, SATORI was the only yacht to launch on time and subsequently completed a flawless 23 week Summer Season. Please see www.yachtsatori.com
March 2007 – October 2007 Captain, M/Y MARATHON, Christensen 48m (157ft) I was hired for Marathon shortly after her delivery from the Shipyard. My brief was to bring this new vessel up to speed as fast as possible. In a short timescale my crew and I installed a functional system of operations on board and rapidly completed all warranty works before departing Transatlantic.
A very successful Summer Season in the Mediterranean. Which saw us as one of the most chartered vessels that year. Was rounded off with the completion of a successful sale to a new Owner. During this Summer I was also awarded All Services ‘Captain of the Year 2007’. Chosen from over 250 Captains.
February 2006 – March 2007 Captain, M/Y OUR TOY, Feadship 36m (120ft) For this vessel I developed a program of much needed maintenance and upgrade. This included a new Audio Visual System and Network. For the fitment of 3 new Satcom Domes I designed extensive modifications of the ships exterior whilst maintaining the vessel’s visual appeal. All works were completed on time and on budget without affecting the Owners usage.
June 2005 – November 2005 Captain, M/Y XILONEN, Christensen 45m (142ft) I managed the refit of a 18 year old 142ft Christensen Motor Yacht (Formerly ‘Big Play’), which had been in heavy use as a charter yacht. The vessel was completely refurbished with new paintwork, and interior renovation. This included a full upgrade and service of all engineering systems.
June 2004 – May 2005 Captain, S/Y SANTA MARIA, Perini Navi 56m (184ft) No. 2 I joined Santa Maria just after the vessel delivery by Perini Navi and completed her set up during a busy summer season and warranty period. Including numerous Owner requested improvements such as adding a twin Engineer cabin in the Lazarette. Santa Maria’s Owner demanded very high standards of service and organization with up to 17 guests onboard. Which included Heads of State and Royalty.
May 2004 - June 2004 Temporary Captain S/Y LADY LAUREN, Perini Navi 40m (130ft) I acted as Temporary Captain to tutor new Captain of the newly purchased vessel.
May 2003 – May 2004 Build Captain - Captain, S/Y BURRASCA. Perini Navi 56m (184ft) No 1. May 2003 – July 2003 Captain. M/Y Newcastle Explorer, 32m (105 ft) Explorer Yacht S/Y Burrasca was the first 56m Perini Navi Ketch. She was launched in August of 2003 and handed over to the Owner in December 2003. The Owner had a fleet of numerous vessels including a 105ft Exploration Motor Yacht, a Falcon 100 and a 35ft Cigarette. Management of these was also part of my responsibility.
April – May 2003 First Mate/ Build Manager S/Y FELICITA WEST, Perini Navi 64m (210ft) S/Y Felicita West is a new 64m Perini Navi Ketch. I was employed as a temporary First Mate for the completion of Felicita West’s build and first shakedown cruise.
December 2001 – March 2003 Temporary Captain, Study and Vacation. During this period I acted as a temporary Captain for the 100ft Jachtbouw Sloop ‘Sapphire’ while studying for my Master (Yachts) 3000 GRT Licence.
May 2000 – November 2001 Build Captain, S/Y UNFURLED, Royal Huisman 34m (115ft) S/Y Unfurled is a 112’ Royal Huisman Yacht designed by German Frers to be an ultra modern state of the art world cruiser both technically and visually. We competed in two Maxi Rolex Cups winning our division in 2001 and line honors in every race we ever entered. February 2000 – April 2000 Project Manager/ Captain, Newport RI USA. Management of the refit and repair of a 1964 Abeking/ Concordia Locust Wood Sloop and a Swan 53. The Abeking won Concurs d’Elegance at Newport Classics that summer.
September 1999 – December 1999 Project Manager and Temp Captain, M/Y BYSTANDER. M/Y Bystander was a 109’ 1966 Feadship used to support vessel the `J’ Class sailing yacht Velsheda. I managed an extensive refit of the vessel in Auckland, NZ. Plus a full re-paint of the 130ft J-Class Velsheda in Tauranga, NZ.
March 1999 – August 1999 First Mate, S/Y PHILANDERER, 40m (130ft) Philanderer is a 130’ Bruce Farr performance sloop with a crew of seven. Pacific crossing. April 1995 - November 1998 Captain, S/Y REALITE. Little Harbor 60. Captain her over fifty thousand miles in The Mediterranean, The Caribbean, The U.S. East Coast and Canada.
July 1993 - April 1995 First Mate, S/Y TWIRLYBIRD V, 40m (130ft) Twirlybird V was a 133’ Ron Holland performance ketch with a crew of seven.
September 1987 - June 1993 Composite Technician, Boat Builder and Superyacht Rigger Various projects working with the Ministry of Defence, Green Marine, Borden Composites and Riggarna.
