CapU has been delivering world-class performing arts, design, motion picture arts and animation programs for over 25 years. Learn about our 3 schools, 26 programs, award-winning faculty, students and alumni.

Film, television, theatre, and live entertainment sectors are adjusting to the uncertainty of Covid-19. However, demand for content, streaming services, qualified entertainment managers, and authentic and compelling performances has never been greater.

10:00-10:45AM Acting for Stage and Screen, Musical + Technical Theatre, Entertainment Management, and Costuming Nestled within the BlueShore Centre for the Performing Arts, CapU’s acting, musical theatre, technical theatre, entertainment management, and costuming programs prepare graduates for employment in diverse entertainment sectors including film, TV, theatre, music recording, and festivals. In this session, you will have an opportunity to learn about what is happening in the entertainment industry from our award-wining faculty and alumni. 2:30-3:15PM Digital Visual Effects + Motion Capture + VR + Immersive VFX can be so obvious (e.g., explosions), or so subtle (e.g., background replacement/wire removal). It involves the symbiosis of art and science and incorporates both live action and cg elements. It incorporates motion and performance capture, programming and camera savvy. BC’s film, television, animation, and visual effects industries are on a 15 year growth curve fueled by content demand and new streaming services. Although not immune to Covid-19, creative professionals are rapidly adapting. The animation and visual effects workforce, for example, has shifted to remote work. Digital and post-production are full steam ahead and other sectors are working on safety standards for a socially distanced return to work.

Graduates are highly sought-after in the industry and can be found in many top studios and agencies, both in Vancouver and around the world. Others form start-up companies or enjoy their own freelance practices. 3:15-4:00PM Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication Do you want to become a part of a new generation of creative professionals?

In this session you will learn from industry professionals—alumni and faculty. You will explore learning opportunities in our career-oriented Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication—a program with concentrations in branding, illustration and interactive design.

Capilano University’s IDEA School of Design has always had a strong connection with the creative industry in Vancouver. In 2018 we deepened our involvement through the launch of our fourth-year practicums. The final course in our four-year degree program is an eight-week full-time placement in a local company.
