Next Tuesday 16th October is our first Barton Day. We intend this to be an annual community event as our school grows. The purpose of the day is to celebrate our school and to share with our community why we think our school is the best school. At our first Barton Day we will be unveiling two commemorative plaques that acknowledge the official opening of our school. There will be a range of activities including an assembly where our guest of honour will be Anne Barton the great granddaughter of Sir Edmund Barton the first Prime Minister of Australia and after whom the school is named. Our program commences at 9.05am with an assembly in the stadium followed by an open morning where parents and friends are welcome to visit the Learning Hubs to see the students learning in action. We are also going to assemble the whole on the oval so that we can create a visual for an overhead aerial photo to keep as a memento of our first Barton Day. We would really like to see you at Barton Primary School for our first Barton Day Tuesday 16th October 9.05- 11.00am. FOOTY COLOURS DAY FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 21 ST On the last day of term we all dressed in our footy colours and provided a gold coin donation. This was organised by our student representative council SRC. We had a lot of fun at the final assembly celebrating each of the teams. The gold coins collected were donated to the ACE foundation which is an organisation that supports children in the City of Casey with their education costs. Our school donated $381. Thank you to everyone for dressing in your footy colours and for supporting this very worthwhile charity.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT – Andrew Felsinger

WELCOME BACK Great to see everyone return fit and well after the term break. This term we will be working hard at setting up ourselves so that we are ready for 2019. Our school will be expanding by over 150 students next year. Our new Assistant Principal Mark Cooper and I are working extremely hard with all staff to ensure that our rigorous selection standards are maintained so that we continue to attract the best teachers available. This is fantastic for our students as we will be able to maintain our excellent learning achievement levels for all students.

BARTON DAY – TUESDAY 16TH OCTOBER – 9-11AM. Next Tuesday 16th October is our first Barton Day. We intend this to be an annual community event as our school grows. The purpose of the day is to celebrate our school and to share with our community why we think our school is the best school. PREP TRANSITION All parents of 2019 prep students will be contacted by email next week with the details of our Prep Transition Program which will commence in about 3 weeks time. Of course the emails will be sent to the email address as per your enrolment form. Therefore, if you have not completed the enrolment process your child may miss out on the Transition Program. Please contact our Enrolment Officer Beccy Falkam if you require further information: Ph. 8766 4000

LIBRAY BOOKS This week we did a stocktake of our library books and we found that we had over 400 books overdue. There are books that have been borrowed beyond their return date. Can you please ensure that your child’s Library books are kept in the Library bag in their school bag so that the books can be returned. Class teachers will be checking overdue books from Monday next week. I will be sending out letters to parents asking for their return or payment if we have not received these books by Wednesday. NEW RELOCATABLE CLASSROOMS How exciting was it this week to see the arrival of our first relocatable classroom. This is number one of two that will be set up ready for the start of the 2019 school year. We are spending considerable time and effort to ensure that the learning spaces in the relocatables are similar to that of our Learning Hubs in the main buildings. Part of the plan to have them ready includes having them painted in our shades of orange and also for the paths and landscaping to be completed around them.

NEW SCHOOL CROSSING - BRADMAN DRIVE Our School Council has worked extremely hard to ensure that our students are safe by working with the City of Casey to get our 2nd supervised school crossing installed. This became operational on the first day of term. Parents are strongly advised to take the few extra steps to use the crossing in particular when parking on the opposite side of Bradman Dve. Our new crossing supervisor for this crossing is Kay. Please make sure you say hello to her when you are crossing. Chris our other crossing supervisor speaks very highly of our school community and she has been doing a fantastic job on our Everlasting Blvd crossing since it was installed. Make sure you say hello to Chris as well.

NEW INTERN PRINCIPAL An initiative of the Department of Education is for aspirant leaders to have an opportunity to shadow experienced Principals. Our school and myself have been selected to take on one of these Intern Principals and so we would like to welcome Francis Thompson from Narre Warren to our school. Francis will be working in our school for 40 days during term 4 this year and Term 1 next year. Please see below for a bit of background to Francis. Warm greetings to you all. My name is Francis Thompson. I am passionate about education and ensuring that all students reach their full potential. I have enjoyed a range of leadership positions both here and in New Zealand having taught all levels from Kinder to Tertiary. I look forward to continuing my leadership journey at Barton Primary School and feel privileged to be given the opportunity to learn from such a highly respected Principal as Mr Felsinger in this amazing school. I look forward to meeting you all and working with the awesome staff to maximise learning opportunities for all students.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT – Mark Cooper

Firstly I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone in the Barton community for making me feel

so welcome. I have been privileged to be able to see the students settle straight back into their

learning after a well-earned holiday. There is such a great buzz in the school and it really is

infectious.

In my first week I have seen the arrival of our first relocatable portable which was very exciting for

our students to see how they assemble these together. I have been able to do numerous walk

throughs and interview students to ask them ‘what they are learning’ and ‘do they know what they

have learnt’. The responses have been amazing and the students are really engaged and dedicated

in their learning. I have also been out on yard duty and I am really impressed on how the students

get along with each other and look after the surrounds in the playground.

Term 4 is a really hectic term for both staff and students. I’m looking forward to being involved in

everything that happens at Barton Primary, having a positive contribution and meeting you

throughout the term.

GRADE 3-6

TERM 4

Welcome back to the final term of 2018 3-6 team! What an amazing year we have had so far,

with great and exciting work still to come during the remainder of this term. We have already

spoken to the students about our expectations for this term, in particular following our school

rules (Safety, Learning, Respect, Responsibility and Success) for the entirety of the school

year.

GRADE 5-6 INQUIRY

The focus of this terms inquiry is ‘Geography’. Students will

be learning about global diversity and Australia’s

relationships with other countries including our closest neighbours.

GRADE 3-4 INQUIRY

The 3-4 inquiry focus this term will be on ‘Claymation’. Students will be

learning all about Claymation including; script writing, designing

(characters, back drops and settings) and the use of ICT to create short

films.

REMINDERS:

As the weather is warming up, please ensure your child has a labelled hat and drink bottle

with them at all times.

Students need to be reading for at least 45 minutes and need to be filling in their reading

logs themselves, which their parents are to sign.

Big write prompts are being discussed before the big write that happens each Thursday.

Your child’s stationary has been replenished for semester 2, however if your child has

misplaced, lost or broken items such as rulers, scissors, sharpeners and grey lead

pencils, these will need to be replaced by you. Please ask your children if they are

missing and require new items.

Please think of ways that your child can minimise the amount of waste they bring to

school each day, so they can be a Zero Hero, and hopefully win the class trophy at

assembly.

ENVIRO I was so excited to receive messages from students about their growing herbs from last term.

Some students have shown me photographs of their growing plants while others have

described the leaf size and texture.

Here are some pictures of my Basil plant that has flourished over the holidays.

This term our focus is on ENERGY. Students will be exploring energy through hands on

experiments and creating our own reusable power source.

October 22nd – 28th is Backyard Bird Count week.

Why not head outside and join the bird count, you could win

great prizes by collecting bird information.
