sharpeners left over from last year. The event was an adventure! We were told to expect 200 children. We did not get a final count but there were at least twice that many. The person at the door with the counter had difficulty keeping count. Twice we had to have more pumpkin pictures copied. The museum had 200

pumpkins for the costumed children to paint and ran out early in the evening. Museum staff had to make a “candy run” several times to re-stock the baskets they supplied for every table. And the “munchkins” kept a-comin’. Some of the younger children thought they were to color their Jack-o-lanterns at our table (there was no room) and we had to shoo them a way with a “take them with you!” Although it was a bit hectic, it was an enjoyable evening.

CAL – CMA Wall Artists

December– Lynda Rymke

Art has always taken on some form throughout Lynda’s life, from childhood award winning creations with tempera paint, through a degree in fine art at Kent State University, where her direct painting methods were instilled by Joseph O’Sickey. During a twenty-year painting hiatus, Lynda pursued graphic design and "painted" with plants in her garden creations. She began seriously painting again and fell in love with watercolor in 2004, a love that has remained. Lynda achieved Signature status with the Akron Society of Artist in 2008. When she moved from Akron to Waynesburg, she joined the Canton Artists League and participated in their members' shows. She also is a member of the Carroll County Arts Center, has volunteered and taught drawing classes there, won First Place in the 2016 Winter Wonderland Show, and was Featured Artist in the gallery in May 2016. She is a regular Display Artist at the Market Street ArtSpot in Minerva, and was the featured artist there in November 2015. She also won First Place at the Algonquin Mill Art Fest for best oil painting. Lynda was selected to be one of three artists to teach at the Art Camp at The Blue Bird Farm Park near Carrollton in June. In August, Lynda was one of 20 artists to submit work depicting paradise for the CMA "gARTen of eARThly delights" gala fundraiser. Artist's Statement Lynda enjoys painting landscape “en plein air” (on location) capturing

shifting light and atmosphere. "Everywhere I REALLY look, I see glimpses of beauty, hints of a story of Creation groaning for its rightful splendor. I strive to paint to convey what the camera simply cannot see, that unseen atmosphere only the heart perceives and understands."

Plein Air Outings

The plein air group wrapped up the season with a growing membership. Ten different artists participated in at least one of about a dozen outings. Many going out on 8 to 10 opportunities since late spring.

We had our members and the Akron Society of Artists' Monday Morning Painters join forces for 4 outings late in the season.

We adopted the custom of including a critique session mid season, which I believe Peter Castillo first suggested. It proved insightful and universally appreciated.

Out of one critique was born the concept of a focused lesson where an artist would decide for him or herself on a targeted lesson or technique on which to focus for that particular plein air outing. It might be an emphasis on correct values, drawing perspective, or executing a high key painting on a sunny day. This focused lesson allows us to experiment for a few hours on a concept without a large commitment.

Anyone interested in joining The Plein Air Group can pass along his or her contact information to member Mark Mahoney at 330-323-0225.
