Great to be back
It’s great to be back after a month travelling overseas with my wife. We had a
great time spending time in Spain, Italy, Dubai and of course being at the
British Open at St. Andrews was pretty special. The coolest day we had was
35 degrees apart from St. Andrews so it was a shock to the system coming
home to the coldest July we have had in some time.
Can I take this opportunity to thank Kerri for sitting in the chair whilst I was
away and doing such a great job. It was great to get around to the classes and
see the children so engaged in their learning last Thursday. Congratulations
to everyone on a great start to the Term.
Aussie Assembly
Tomorrow we announce our Aussie of the Month along with our Sports Star,
Performing Artist and Visual Artist of the month. We look forward to seeing
everyone at assembly and celebrating with our award winners.
Nissan Raffle
Many thanks to everyone who sold Nissan raffle tickets over the last month.
All monies raised will go towards the purchase of an AED (automatic
external defibrillator) for our school. I will be attending the drawing of the
raffle on Tuesday 1st September at Nissan. Once again thanks everyone for
your support.
Writing Competition
Once again the Studfield Wantirna Community News Inc. are running a
writing competition for all children in the Knox District. The competition
closes on September 18th and is a great way for children to share their
passion for creative writing with the people of Knox. I encourage all children
to enter the competition and you could win $100 for your writing. Entry
forms are available at the school office. Good luck everyone.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Kailin who last weekend competed in the Victorian Cheer
Leading Championships and was part of the grand champion team to take
out the title. Congratulations Kailin on your outstanding achievement.
Ye Olde Orchard Fair
Things are well underway for what promises to be a great fete on Saturday
14th November. This year we celebrate our 75th year of providing
outstanding educational opportunities to the children of Knox and what
better way to celebrate as a community than at our “Ye Olde Orchard Fair”.
The committee have been working very hard behind the scenes attracting
sponsors and organising a multitude of activities ensuring the day will be a
great community event not to be missed. Many thanks to all our hard
working committee members.
Hooptime
Good luck to all our basketballers who are competing in the Hooptime
championships next Tuesday at the Dandenong Basketball Centre. Many
thanks to Miss Bain and Mrs. Tuohey who have been training the students at
lunchtimes over the last few weeks.
Have a great weekend - Go Tigers!!

On Wednesday we split up between inside
play and the big kids playground. When we
came inside played with the dress ups and
hosted our own disco!
On Tuesday we had kids choice day! We
decided to split up between the
multipurpose room and the courtyard. We
made forts and practiced our basketball
dribbling skills.
On Monday we got outside and had some
free play on the big kids playground! While
we were outside we played soccer and
basketball. Some of us also chose to bake
tasty chocolate pudding!
On Wednesday we’ll be getting a bit messy in the art room. We’ll be
creating yarn lanterns using balloons and PVA. Depending on the weather we may also head outside for some
free play.
On Monday we’ll be putting on creative caps and designing giant
comic strips on the Hive walls. We’ll also head outside for some free play in the Hive using board games, Lego
and more.
On Friday its kids choice day! We’ll take a vote and see who wants to get outside for some group games or free play, do some cooking or get into the art room to create something special.
On Tuesday we’ll get creative in the kitchen. We’ll work together to bake some yummy Chocolate Crackles.
For those who don’t want to cook we will be heading outside to the little
kids playground.
On Thursday we’ll be heading outside
to play some games together. We’ll
vote on whether to play games like
tunnel ball, octopus or fruit salad.

Father’s Day Breakfast –
2nd September Each year the children celebrate Father’s Day at school with a before school breakfast event. This year we will be offering a continental style breakfast of bakery treats and fruit as well as some cereal and refreshments. It is a great opportunity for dads to share a special moment with your kids at their school, and it is a really special event for the children. This year the breakfast will be held on Wednesday 2nd September between 7am and 9am, and the cost will be $5.00 per person. Order forms will be going home this week - please return these to the office with payment by Wednesday 26th August.

Class Hampers Each Fete, Classes take up a collection to form Class Hampers that will be sold as silent auction prizes at the Fete. Collection of the items will probably begin late in Term 3 or early in Term 4 and you will be receiving some communication about this from your class teacher. It is a fantastic fundraiser and the hampers are awesome - it is a win-win situation as the winning bidders usually get a great bargain and the school raises money. All we ask is one donation per family for your child(ren)'s class hamper(s). You don't have to spend much! The list of hamper themes is as follows:
Prep A – Girls (aged 9+) Prep B – Babies Prep C – Gourmet Food Babies (Unisex) 1/2 A - Girls (aged 4 – 8) 1/2 B – Pampering 1/2 C - Chocolates & sweets 3/4 A – Mens Stuff 3/4 B – Boys (aged 4 – 8) 5/6 A – Kitchen and Cooking 5/6 B – Pets 5/6 C – Boys (aged 9+)
Class Stalls Thanks to all of the parents who have put up their hand as class reps for the Class Stalls. It is going to be a fantastic event this year
and it will be amazing to be a part of the crew who are putting it together. Please see your class teacher if you would like to help out with your class stall.
Next Parent’s Association Meeting Our next meeting is Wednesday 2nd September at 9am. All welcome.

Cheerleading Champs! Meghan and Kaelin are part of Outlaws Allstars one of the largest Allstar
Cheerleading clubs in Australia with over 380 students and over the weekend
they competed at the Australian Allstar Cheerleading Federation Battle 2 day
competition where teams perform once per day . The first day gives them 40%
of their overall score and ranks them in performance order in their section for
day 2. Day 2 counts for the remaining 60% of their score.
Meghan is team captain of Bandits this year and they are a Mini Level 1 team
(ages 5-9 years) and after day 1 they were placed 1st out of 6 teams. They
performed fantastically hitting a perfect routine on day 2 with no deductions to
keep 1st place in their section.
Kaelin is part of Deputies one of the largest teams at Outlaws with 30 in his
team aged between 9 and 14. They compete in Junior Level 1 (ages 14&under).
After a really great performance on day 1 they were in 1st place. They went on
to do a perfect routine with no deductions on day 2 and not only won their
section, they also took out the level 1 Grand Champions. This means they had
the highest overall score out of 35 eligible teams in all age groups in their level.
This also means that Deputies will compete in a special new 1 day competition
the day after Nationals this year with all the level 1 Grand Champions to find out
who will take overall grand champion of level 1 for the year. This competition is
called Pinnacle and is an invite only competition. During the cheerleading
season (July-November) there are 4 invitations given out in each level in each
state. So they will be competing against level 1 teams from all over Australia.
