Keeping Safe & Cyberbullying PresentationThis Tuesday our students will be attending a presentation by Senior Constable Rachael Joyce, who is the Bathurst Command, Youth Liaison Officer. She will be presenting two talks, one to our infants students about Keeping Safe and one to our primary students about Cyberbullying. These topics are being taught in our Personal Development and Health lessons this term. The presentations will give our students a lot of valuable information about strategies to deal with this very important topic.

YEAR 6

MONSTER MARATHONThis years’ Year 6 fundraiser will be a ‘Monster Marathon’.

Our goal is to begin running at 9.00 am on Friday, 28th June 2019 and tag team run until 3.00 pm on that day.

Our running track will be 1 kilometre in length and we will be running in groups or pairs around the school course.

Children will record each personal lap and this will be tallied together to make a class total for the day.

During the day children will participate in the running events or do class work at Learning Centres in the School Hall.

Children will get sponsored for their individual number of laps and/or for the total number of laps run by the whole class. This will go towards our Year 6 fundraising for the year.

Miss White’s Year 5 class members will also be involved in the day though they are not expected to be sponsored.

Class in Focus: Year 5/6

Year 5/6 have been busy exercising their bodies and their brains. During PE lessons they have been focusing on the sprint run, practising the componets through drills and gamea. In class they have been doing online quizes through a program called Kahoot. The students use their laptops to answer a range of questions within a time limit. The teacher can monitor who answered correctly and the students get a score at the end of each round. It is a lot of fun and the students love it!

PSSA Netball in West Wyalong

Well done to the Canowindra Public School netball team who travelled to West Wyalong to compete in the PSSA knockout competition. Although we didn’t come home winners the team showed great sportsmanship and improved as the game went on. Thank you to Alison Stephens, Beth Gordon and Tamara Pearce for transporting the team to West Wyalong. Thank you also to Mrs Matic for giving up her time to coach the team during lunch times.

Our school has registered to participate in the 2019 NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge. The purpose of the challenge is to encourage students to participate in sport, games and physical activity and to have more students, more active, more often! Over a ten-week period from Monday 3rd June-Friday 23rd August, all classes K-6 will be monitoring physical activity we do during class time, at recess and lunch as well as during sport. What we do outside school hours will also count towards the Challenge award. We would especially like to invite all our families to support us in encouraging students’ healthy use of leisure time and to experience the joy of being active together. Each student in Years 3-6 should have received a challenge log book to record their physical activity. Physical activity is valued for its physical, social and emotional benefits. It also helps young people to develop communication skills, confidence and resilience whilst having fun with family and friends.

PSSA SoccerLast Friday we played against Mulyan Public School in our round 4 game. We were very evenly matched with our opponents, which showed for a good game. We started off strong with Molly scoring first. The game continued with Mulyan scoring a couple of goals. A few position changes were made in the second half and Hayley Stewart was put into the attack. Not too long after, she received the ball in the attacking half and ran with the ball and kicked a great shot and scored. Unfortunately the Canowindra girls ended up losing 5-2, but showed fantasic sportsmanship and never gave up. The girls displayed great improvement on their last game. Congratulations, girls. Well done!
