DESCRIPTION

How to load drivers for an old Canon i950 on Windows 7.

TRANSCRIPT

The driver for the i9900 that works for Windows 7, 32 or 64 bit, is on the CD shipped with the printer, that is, Canon i9900 Setup & User's Guide; CD1; USCD 1.2 QH7-1779; (C) 2005.The file is i9900.inf and the path to it is F:\Win2000\Printer\Disk0\i9900.inf(substitute your CD drive letter for F above).Start at the desktop with the actions listed next (these occur in various dialogs),Start | Control Panel | Devices and Printers | Add a printer | Add a local printer | Use an existing port: | USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB) | Next | Have Disk...At this point browse to Win2000\Printer\Disk0\ on your CD. Click on the file i9900.inf to select it and click Open. In the Install from Disk dialog, the path should be the one given above; clicking OK returns you to the Add Printer dialog with Canon i9900 highlighted in the Printers list, click Next. There are a few more, but obvious, steps and the driver will be installed. Also apply the updates at Canon's site for the printer.I've used this procedure for Windows 7 Home Premium 32 and 64 bit versions. Interestingly, Microsoft says Canon says the i9900 is not compatible with Win 7, when actually Canon says it is. Although, come to thinkof it, the absence of easy-to-find instructions imposes a virtual incompatibility on two pretty good products.
