NoteMake sure the mode selector @ is set to"ON" during automatic winding and powerrewind, and turn it to "OFF" when you are notusing the camera.

  • Prefocusing

When you wish to compose the picture sothat your subject is not in the center of theviewfinder and the autof ocus f rame is,therefore, not covering the subject, followthese steps:1. Look into the viewfinder and compose thepicture so that the autofocus frame coversyour subject. Gently press the shutter buttonHALFWAY and make sure one of the zone-focus symbols lights up. This allows thecamera to "memorize" the subject distance.2. Keeping the shutter button pressed half-way, recompose the picture as you like, but

do not change the shooting distance.3. Press the shutter button all the way downto take the picture.

  • Subiec{s which Require Spedat Attmtion in Focusing

    fc

The following subjects are difficult for theautofocusing system to focus exactly:1 Subjects without vertical l ines (windowblinds, a series of waves in the ocean).2 Subjects with litt le or no contrast (l ight-colored or white objects).3 Subjects with an object in front of them(zoo animals in a cage).4 Subjects with strong reflections or brightlybacklit subjects.5 Subjects composed of very small, uniformparts (a patch of grass or a bed of very smallf lowers).

6 Subjects in low-l ight si tuations (usuallynoted by the camera-shake warning signal).

The method below is usually effective f orfocusing the above subjects:1 Compose the picture so that the autofocusframe covers a substitute subject, which isapproximately the same distance as yourmain subject. Then press the shutter buttonhalfway, making sure one of the zone-focussymbols l ights up in the viewfinder.

  • 2. Keeping the shutter button pressed half-way, recompose the picture so that your sub-ject is where you want it to be, and press theshutter button all the way to take the picture.

    Using a Filter

A 48mm-diameter filter may be screwed intothe front r ing of the lens @. Since l ightpasses through the filter before it reaches theexposure metering window (E , no exposurecorrection is necessary. The procedure fortaking pictures with a f i l ter attached is thesame as for normal photography.A UV or skyl ight f i l ter is recommended forf lash photography. l t wi l l also protect the sur-face of the lens.
