    For the past three years we have been proud to support the Cannes Lions Outdoor awards as part of our commitment to championing great creativity, and this years selection of winning entries certainly demonstrate the vast spectrum of possibilities outdoor advertising offers.

    As a pure-play advertising medium, the quality of the creative work plays a fundamental role which, when combined with context, timing and audience insight, leads to truly effective out-of-home campaigns. Googles Voice Search which won the Grand Prix prize at the Media Lions awards is a perfect example of exactly that.

    The 2012 Outdoor Lions attracted over 4800 entries from across the globe, making it the most competitive year to date. Indeed, the quality of this years entrants led the jury to award two Grand Prix prizes to two very different outdoor campaigns: For the stunningly simple graphic idea for Coca-Colas #cokehands, and for the fantastic use of technology used to create the compelling image used by Mercedes-Benz The Invisible Drive: both powerful and exceptionally effective campaigns, reminding us once again of our mediums relevance to todays biggest brands.

    At Clear Channel, we are committed to helping transform out-of-home advertising. To help boost brands by making meaningful connections between them and their audiences, with media and innovations that enlighten, entertain, charm, challenge and influence.     It was my great honour to work with 18 distinguished jurors from around the world, to look at over 4,800 Outdoor entries and crown the eventual winners. Now, heres a collection of only the best ideas at 2012 Cannes Outdoor Lions. From the winning work, we realised the magical power of one of the oldest media in the advertising world hasnt lessened, but actually increased thanks to the innovative technology and most importantly, the imaginative minds!

    Of course, a media channel is only a media channel. Its up to the creative minds to make the most of the medium itself. How to turn a static billboard to catch the fast moving pedestrians attention? How to make use of the environment to pull a stunt? How to harness the latest technology and take outdoor communications to the next level?

    The two Grand Prix winners demonstrated to us the widest possible spectrum of fabulous work weve seen in Cannes Lions history. The technological innovations never stop, and I am even more excited to know, creative minds are progressing even faster.

    From the winners, we can see a trend of blending social, digital and mobile with outdoor space. We can also see a lot of love put into image crafting and storytelling in each piece of work.
