Introduction

China's cancer villages are cancer clusters in farming villages. They are caused by environmental pollutions from industries. Various forms of Chinese media have reported a total of 459 cancer villages across 27 of China's 31 provincial units. Millions of people are currently living in those villages.

Cause of Formation

Raw sewage and fumes discharged from upstream industries has caused air, water and soil pollution around the villages. When drinking polluted water and consuming polluted grain, physical function of villagers was severely damaged which caused cancer clusters.

China Ministry of Environment states that 20% of China’s farmland has been contaminated. Reasons include industrial discharge, agricultural chemicals and industrial waste. Arsenic and Cadmium are the major contaminant in farmlands.
