• TheCanadianShieldissurroundedbygenerallyflat-lyingsequencesofsedimentaryrocksformedbecauseoftheerosionoftheshielditself
• So,theshieldisshowingbecauseithasbeeneroded,andthesedimentthatformsoutofthaterosionconstitutestheplatform
• TheplatformisPhanerozoicinage
• Sothecrystallinebasementsalwaysexistsunderneaththeplatform
• Iftheplatformismissingbecauseoferosion,therocksofthecrystallinebasementmakeuptheshield
• Thismeansthatifwedrillthroughtheplatform,weareabletoreachandfindthecrystallinebasement

• Asamatteroffact,youcanseeorencounterthecrystallinebasementinthesefourgeologicalcontext:– Directlyexposedatthesurface,asitisintheCanadianShield
