Eachyear,overthecourseofCanadianScreenWeek,theCSAsbringtogethermorethan6000craftspeople,producers,and decision-makers from across Canada to honour, celebrate and promote the talent and accomplishments of theCanadianfilm,televisionanddigitalmediaindustries.RulesandRegulationsbookletsaremadeavailableonlineduringtheentryperiod.AnyCanadiantelevisionProgramthatmeetsthecurrentCanadianScreenAwardseligibilitycriteriamaybeenteredforconsideration.Entriesaresubmittedbyproducers (allCategories)or individuals (CraftandPerformanceCategories) from July2017 through toSeptember1,2017.Atthistime,recommendationsfortheSpecialAwardCategoriesareinvitedfromthemembership.HOWTORECOMMENDCHANGESTOTHERULES&REGULATIONSTheRules&RegulationsCommitteemeetseachyeartoreviewtheRulesandCategories.Membersmaydownloadtheappropriate form from the Academy website and send the completed forms and support documentation to theAcademyc/otheNationalOffice,Attention:VP,Programming,byMarch23,2018.

AcademystaffwillforwardallsubmissionsdirectlytotheRules&RegulationsCommittee.RecommendationsreceivedafterMarch23,2018willnotbereviewedbytheCommitteeforthecurrentyear.Onlycompleterecommendationswillbereviewed.

ELIGIBILITY

SubjecttotheapprovaloftheAuthorizedRepresentativeandtotheEntryproceduresdetailedbelow,producersmaysubmitentriesforallCategoriesorindividualsmaysubmitforCraftandPerformanceCategories.

ItisnotrequiredthattheEntrantisamemberoftheAcademy,butitshouldbenotedthatAcademymembersreceivediscountsonawardshowticketprices,andcanvoteontheawards.WHATCANENTERAnyProgramwhich:

1) Qualifies as a Canadian television productionunderCRTC,CAVCO;

2) Has had its first Canadian commercial releasewithin the Qualifying Period on a telecasterlicensed by the CRTC, or an online video servicewhocommissionscontent;

3) Isnotare-run;

4) Has not been previously entered in the GeminiAwards,GenieAwardsorCanadianScreenAwards.ProgramspreviouslyenteredforthePrixGémeauxare eligible, subject to meeting all other EligibilityCriteria;

5) Is not a re-edited version of previously enteredmaterial.

QUALIFYINGPERIODTheProgrammusthave its firstCanadian commercialrelease between September 1, 2016 and November15,2017**Note: If your program air-date falls just outside ofthesedates, andyouwish toappeal forentry,pleasecontacttheAcademy.

ForSeriesEntriesOnlyInthecaseofaSeries,as longas1/3of theSerieshasaired between September 1, 2016 and November 15,2017,theEntrantmayenterany/allepisodeswhicharefromthesameseason/productioncycle(pleaserefertothedefinitionofaseason/productioncycleonp.22),andmeet all other eligibility requirements. The Entrant isrequired to submit a letter from the Broadcasterconfirming that one third of the cycle/season will airduringtheQualifyingPeriod.NOTEONCANADIANMINORITYCO-PRODUCTIONSMinorityCo-ProductionEligibilityIfaminorityCanadianco-productionqualifiesandentersintoaProgramcategory(forexample,BestDramaSeries),onlycreditedCanadiancitizensareeligibleforentryintheassociatedcraftandperformancecategories.

HOWTOENTER

Please note - Only Entries that are complete will beaccepted. Entries that are incomplete in any respectwill not be considered. All entries are submittedONLINE, and must be done so by the appropriatedeadlines, in accordance with the followingspecifications:

1. Entriesmust be submitted online via the OfficialEntrywebsite.

2. By submitting online, the entrant confirms allinformationiscompleteandcorrect;theAcademyassumesnoresponsibilityforinformationomittedorentered incorrectlybytheentrant,at thetimeofsubmission.

3. Entriesmustbeaccompaniedbyadigitalvideofileof the Program entered (i.e. if entering threeseparate episodes in several categories, theAcademywillrequirethreecompletedigitalfilesofthe episodes). Please note it is the Entrant’sresponsibility to ensure the file is technicallysound. Defective files will result in thedisqualification of the Entry in the specificCategory.Refundswillnotbeissuedfordefectivefiles resulting in disqualification. All informationabout how to upload correctly is found on theAcademy’sonlineentrysite.

4. Series Entries must be accompanied by two (2)episodes.*

SpecialNoticeforSeriesEntries Ensure that the episodes submitted to represent

theEntrant’sSeriesareaccuratereflectionsoftheSeries.

*In the case of documentary series, the entrantmayuploadONEepisodetorepresenttheseriesasawhole.

5. IfanEntryisnominated,ONEDVDorBlu-RaycopyoftheentireProgram(s)mayberequested.Whennominations are announced, the Academy, or arepresentativeofitsproductionteam,maycontactentrantstorequestDVDsorBlu-RayDisc,andwillmakearrangements forDVD/Blu-Ray returnaftertheshow. Discs forwhichnosucharrangementshave beenmadewill be destroyed 60 days aftertheawardshow.Inthecaseofawin,DVD/Blu-RayDiscswillberetainedfortheAcademy’sarchive.

6. Special notes on what to include with Program

CategoryEntries:− In the case of all entries (not including

sports/news), an HD trailer (or clips drawn fromthe current season, 2minutes in length)must beuploaded.

− Inthecaseofallentries,high-res,imagesfromtheproduction shoot, used to represent the show inthecaseofnomination.

SpecialnotesonwhattoincludewithCraftorPerformanceCategoryEntries:

− InthecaseofallPerformers’Entries,entriesmust

be accompanied by actors’ head shots (uploadedonentrysite,high-res300dpi).

− ForSupportingPerformanceCategoryEntries,cuesheetsmustbeincludedwiththeEntry.

− In the case of Visual Effects, entries must beaccompanied by a three-page description of theprocess.

− In the case of Make-Up, Costume Design andProductionDesign, entriesmust be accompaniedbyaone-pagedescription.

− InthecaseofMusicScoreEntries,entriesmustbeaccompanied by a detailed cue sheet (SOCANformatorsimilar).

− In the case of Research Categories 3007 &3008, entries must be accompanied by a shortdescriptionoftheresearchconducted.

NOTE: INALLCASESNOTEDABOVE, IFNOTRECEIVEDBYENTRYDEADLINE,ORIFTHEMATERIALUPLOADEDDOES NOT MEET TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS, THEACADEMYRESERVESTHERIGHTTOSOURCEMATERIAL(HEADSHOTS, IMAGES FROM SHOWS) AND USE FORPURPOSES RELATED TO THE CANADIAN SCREENAWARDSPROCESS

Entries must include CURRENT home address,phonenumbersandemailaddress info. forEACHindividual entered (this is crucial ifNominees areto be properly notified in time to receive theircertificates, award ceremony ticket information,etc.) Production company addresses are NOTacceptable unless the Entrant designates thecompanyaddress.

8. Entriesmustbeaccompaniedbyaletterfromthebroadcaster confirming the original date ofbroadcast.

9. Entries must be accompanied by writtenconfirmation of the Program’s Canadiancertification.AphotocopyofthelettertheEntranthas received from the CRTC or CAVCO must beuploaded on the entry site. Co-productions andIndependent Productions must provideCRTC/CAVCOCanadianCertification.

Broadcaster-produced Programs (i.e. produced

100% in-house)warrant theymeet thecriteriaofCRTC/CAVCO requirements, anddonot requireacertificationform.

10. EntriesmustincludeageneralProgramsynopsisnotto exceed 60words. For a Series Entry, a genericsynopsis for the entire Series not to exceed 60words, as well as a synopsis for each episodeentered,nottoexceed30words.SynopsesaretobesubmittedontheAcademy’sonlineentrysite.

SpecialNoticeRegardingSynopsesTheprogramsynopsiswillbeprintedassubmitted,in all publications. It is in the Entrant’s interest toensure that it is coherent and correct in bothspellingandgrammar.Synopsesoverthespecifiedlength are subject to editing, and may not beaccepted.

11.Entrantsmustuploadacompletelistofon-screencredits. In cases where on-screen credits do notappear, as innewsand sportsPrograms, a listofcredits must be drawn-up by the ExecutiveProducer,anduploadedonline.

12. In the case of multiple individuals entered inone Category, the person listed as “primaryrecipient” will be considered the designatedperson to receive the statue and be thedesignated spokesperson, unless otherwiseindicatedbytheEntrant.

13. Entries must include the appropriate fees (seeEntryFeesp.2).

CONDITIONSOFENTRY1. TheEntrantwarrants that theProgram is eligible

to be entered in accordance with the Rules &Regulations,ascontainedherein.

2. The Entrant must have received an on-screencredit in the Category in which he or she is

entered. In the case of a dispute concerning acredit, the Academy reserves the right todetermine eligibility. The Academy’s decision isfinal.

3. The entrant represents and warrants to theAcademythat:(a) the entrant has obtained all necessaryrightsandpermissionsrequiredtotransfertherightstotheAcademyascontemplatedbelow,andhaspaidorwillpayallapplicableresiduals,royalties, reuse fees and other participationswith respect to the Academy’s usage ascontemplatedbelow;and(b) there is no litigation, claim, proceeding ordispute pending or threatened against theentrantortheEntry,theadversedeterminationofwhichmightadverselyaffecttheAcademyorimpairtheAcademy’sabilitytoexploititsrightshereunder.

4. The entrant hereby does transfer to theAcademy,theright,inperpetuity,inanyandallmedia now or hereafter devised, throughouttheworld,to:a) incorporate one ormore clips of this Entryinto one or more television and/or otherprogramsforexploitation(whetherwithand/orwithout soundtrack, including musical score);b) show any portion of this Entry to Academymembers as considered necessary by theAcademy in its sole discretion;c) show any portion of this Entry duringCanadianScreenAwardspresentations;d) archive clips of this Entry (whether withand/or without soundtrack, including musicalscore and including video clips, audio clipsand/or still images) to an interactive storagedevice,totheAcademywebsiteand/ortheWorldWideWeb;e)otherwiseuseoneormoreclipsoftheEntryfor promotional purposes for the CanadianScreen Awards and/or enhancement of theimageofCanadiancontent;

f)reproduce,reformat,modifyand/oreditanysuchclipsforanyoftheforegoingpurposes;

g) transfer any or all of the above-mentionedrights to one or more third parties for theaforesaidpurposes.

Alloftheforegoingrightsaretransferredbytheentrant to the Academy for use in connectionwiththecurrentand/orfutureCanadianScreenAwards Shows. The entrant hereby agrees toindemnify the Academy from any loss, liability,cost, expense and/or damage, includingreasonable attorney’s fees, suffered by theAcademyarising from the foregoing transferofrightsincludingwithoutlimitationanybreachofthe entrant’s representations and warrantiesabove.

5. The Authorized Signing Person owns theproduction represented by the Entry or isauthorized in writing by the owner to submitthisEntry.

6. TheEntrantwarrantsthatallIndividualssubmittedfor consideration herein have been notified oftheirEntry.

7. TheEntrantwarrants that thecompletedentry isaccompanied(viasecureuploadontheAcademy’sonlineentrysite)byallrequireddocumentationasoutlined inHow to Enter (p.6-7). In any case inwhich the Academy determines the informationrequired to be provided by the Entrant isinaccurateorincomplete,andthattheProgramistherefore incorrectly entered, the AcademyreservestherighttodeclaretheProgramineligibletobesubmittedfornominationsforanyAward.

8. The Entrant acknowledges and agrees that theAcademy may, at its sole discretion, determinethatnoAwardsbegiveninanyCategoryinwhichthe Programs entered do not meet Academystandards.

9. The Entrant agrees that the Rules & RegulationsCommittee, subject to the approval of theAcademy Board of Directors, will rule on anydisputeinmattersrelatingtotheentry,eligibility,nominationsand/orelectionofanyProgramforanAward.TheEntrantacknowledges theAcademy’sdecisionisfinal.

10. The Entrant acknowledges that the AcademymayrequestaDVDand/ordigitalcopyANDmayretainaBetacopyofeachProgramenteredintotheawards,forarchivalpurposesand/orotherpurposesrelatedtotheCanadianScreenAwards.

11. The Entrant must grant to the Academy, in

perpetuity, the right to transfer a digital copy oftheAward-winning Program to a volume storagedevice, for purposes of archival storage, as theAcademydeemsnecessary.

12. TheEntrantagreestopermitLibraryandArchivesCanada topurchaseorduplicateonecopyof theProgramforarchivalpurposes.

13. BysubmittinganentryontheAcademy’sonlineentrywebsite, the entrant signifies understanding andacceptanceoftheRules&Regulations.

14. The Entrant agrees tomake their entry availablefor eligible Voting Members during the votingperiods;accessedviastreamingvideoonasecureonlinevotingwebsite.

SHIPPINGANDHANDLING

1. With regards to items sent to the Academy viaregular mail, every reasonable care will beexercised to protect all materials from loss ordamage.However,theAcademydoesnotassumeliabilityforsuchlossordamage,howevercaused.

TECHNICALREQUIREMENTS

1. Forpurposesofallscreenings,andwherepossible,theAcademyencouragesjurorstoviewentriesontelevision monitors. Jurors will receive links toentered programs, which will be used forscreeningenteredmaterial.

2. Each Program and Craft/Performance CategoryenteredmustincludeadigitalfileofthecompleteProgram or series episode, uploaded securely ontheAcademy’sonlineentrysite.

3. Entries must be submitted exactly as broadcast.Theymaynot be edited andmaynot include anyprefaceorancillarymaterialotherthantheEntry.

4. ForNewsandsportsentries,astandardslatewiththeCategory, title,and running time listedat thebeginningofeachdigitalfileshouldbeincluded.

5. IMPORTANT: Entrants should pre-screen digitalfilesbeforeuploadingtotheAcademy’sonlineentrysitetoensuretheyaretechnicallysoundandwillnotcompromisetheEntry.

7. Entries should have no commercials. (Seeexception for Best Local and National Newscastsp.12)

8. AllEntryvideofilesmustbenamedwithProgramtitle, and episode title, and if possible, entryCategorynumber.

PROGRAMCATEGORIESItistheEntrant’sresponsibilitytoaccuratelyselecttheCategoriesentered.TheAcademywillnotaltertheseselections,nordoesitassumeresponsibilityfortheselection(s)madebytheEntrant.

Note:Forthosecategorieswhereentrantsarerestrictedtoasetnumberofallowablerecipients(forexample,thereisalimitof6peopleeligibleinBestSportsProgram),theenteringpartywilldeemthoseentrantseligible.Allentrantsaresubjecttocreditchecks,aspertheeligibilityrulesoutlinedforeachCategory.AProgrammaybeenteredinONEofthefollowing26ProgramCategories.SpecialNotesRegardingSeriesEntries

1) SeriesandLimitedSeriesEntriesmustsubmitTWO(2)episodesasrepresentativeoftheSeries(exceptinthecaseofdocumentaryseries,whereentrantsmaychoosetosubmitONE(1)episodeforentry).

2) Inorder toqualify, one thirdof a Seriesmust airwithin thequalifyingperiodbetweenSeptember1, 2016andNovember15,2017.TheEntrantmayselectanepisodewithintheseason/broadcastcyclethathasnotyetbeenbroadcastforsubmissionaslongasitisaccompaniedbyaletterfromthebroadcasterconfirmingbroadcast,anditmeetsallothereligibilityrequirements.Note:Pilotsarenoteligibleasstand-aloneProgramentries

3) Program Category Awards will be presented to those with the qualification of producer. A producer shall bedeemedeligible ifheor shehasanon-screencreditasProducer, SupervisingProducer,ExecutiveProducer,Co-Executive Producer or Series Producer. (Senior Producer and Commissioning Editor will be allowed forInformational/Documentary,TalkShows,SportsandAnalyticalProgramming). (SeniorExecutiveProducerwillbeallowed for all Broadcaster in-house-produced Programming). Note: The credit “Director” is eligible in allDocumentaryProgramcategories(notSeries).Note:AlistofeligiblecreditscanbefoundontheAcademywebsite.

SpecialNoteRegardingNews,SportsandDigitalMediaEntries1) ForNews,Sports,DigitalMediaentries:Inordertoqualify,onethirdofaSeriesmustairwithinthequalifyingperiod

betweenSeptember1,2016andAugust31,2017.TheEntrantmayselectanepisodewithintheseason/broadcastcyclethathasnotyetbeenbroadcastforsubmissionaslongasitisaccompaniedbyaletterfromthebroadcasterconfirming broadcast, and itmeets all other eligibility requirements.Note: Pilots are not eligible as stand-aloneProgramentries.

2) ForNews,SportsandDigitalMediaPrograms:theentrantwilldeemtheindividualseligibleuponcompletionofthe

onlinesubmission.

THEJUDGINGPROCESS

HOWITWORKS

NominationsfortheProgram,PerformanceandDigitalMedia categories are determined by nominating jury.The Television Craft category nominations will bedetermined by direct vote by Academy craftmembershipbranches.IfaTVProgramorPerformancecategoryreceivesfewerthan10entries(orlessthan15hours of total entered footage), nominations will bedetermined by Academy membership branch vote,ratherthanajuryvote.JURIES/MEMBERSHIPVOTING1. A call for Jurors is made to the Academy

membership. The respondents will sit on theNominatingJuries,andberesponsibleforselectingtheNomineesineachAwardCategory.

2. Each Jury is chaired by, and includes televisionindustry professionals with expertise in theparticular Categories for which the Jury isresponsible, aswell asmemberswith expertise indifferentbutrelatedareasoftelevisionproduction.

3. Typically, there is one jury group per Category. Insomecases,thesamejurywilljudgetwocategories,if those categories receive a minimal number ofentries. Amaximumof seven and aminimumoffive Jurors will serve on each Jury, except forcircumstances when less than five or more thanseven is deemed acceptable by theAcademy. AllJurors,includingtheChair,mayvote.AllJuriesmustwatch a minimum of 50% of each Programsubmitted. Juries are drawn from across thecountry,andareheld inmajormarketsacross thecountry.

4. Eachjurorwillpre-screenallentries.Whenmeetingduring the jury weekend, jurors will come toconsensus on the five nominees*, and personallyrankeachchoice1to5bysecretballot.

*Thenumberofnomineeswillvarybetween2–5depending on the number of entries received ineachCategory.

5. AllJurydeliberationsareconfidential.TheAcademydoesnotrevealwhichjurorsatonwhichJury.TheJurorsmaynotrevealwhichJurytheyhaveservedon nor discuss the Jury screenings outside of theJurysession.

6. Ballotsareconfidentialandwillbesentdirectlyfromthe Jury site in sealed envelopes to the BallotAuditorswhowilltabulatethem.

News/SportsCategoriesAllNewsandSportsCategoriesarejudgedbyindividualsselectedthroughconsultationswithbroadcasters.Thesejurors are responsible for choosing the nominees andwinnersintheNewsandSportsCategories.PolicyonConflictsofInterestEachjurymemberisrequiredtosignaConflictofInterestformprior to the commencement of judging. While theAcademymakeseveryefforttoresolvedirectconflictsofinterestbeforethe Juries sit, some indirect conflicts cannot be avoided. If asituationexistswhereinan indirectconflictpresents itself, theAcademywilltrytominimizeconflictsandbalancetheinterestsofallpartiesinordertogetthebestqualifiedJurors.If an unexpected conflict of interest should arise, the jurymemberinquestionwillbedisqualifiedfromvoting.

7. NumberofNominations-TheremaybeuptofiveNominations per Category, depending on thenumberofEntries.ThenumberofNominationsperCategoryvariesaccordingtothenumberofEntries.

8. EntrantsareresponsiblefortheCategoryinwhichaProgram has been entered. Juries cannot changetheCategoryinwhichaProgramhasbeenentered,butmustjudgeitagainstallotherProgramsintheCategorythattheEntranthaschosen.

9. The Nominations will be announced at a pressconferencefollowingJuryandmembershipvoting.

10. Juries and/or Television Division Branch membersmay recommend Special Awards forAchievement(s) not covered by existing AwardsCategories.

11. Entries will be judged exactly as entered. If asubmissionhasbeenentered incorrectly,theJurymaynotchangeit.

12. Final Balloting – To verify or change yourmembership status, please contact theAcademy’s Membership Department by 5:00p.m. ET on January 12, 2018. Only votingmembersareallowedtovote.Nochangescanbemadeoncethenominationsareannounced.

13. Once theNominees havebeendetermined, final

ballots will be prepared for each Category andpresentedonasecureonlinevotingwebsitetothemembership. Nominees will be presentedalphabeticallyineachCategory.

15. All Television divisionmembers have the right tovote in all Television categories. Digital MediaMembers vote in all Digital Media categories.Québecmembersworking in English TVover thelast two years may also vote upon notifying theNationalOffice.

16. The final vote will be weighted 50% jury, 50%membership, to reflect the contributionof juryand Academy members across Canada. TheDigital Media Categories (1030-39), will beweighted70%jury,30%membership.

17. IntheeventofasingleNomination inaCategory,theballotwillreflectbothanAwardandNoAwardoption.

STATUTEOFLIMITATIONSAfterthenominationsareannounced,except incaseswhere the omission of an Entrant results from anAcademy error, the Academy will accept requests inwriting from the Authorized Representative (seeDefinitions)toincludeadditionaleligibleEntrants.Afeeof$100perindividualEntrantwillbechargedforeachchange.
