PRESIDENT TERRI’S MESSAGE Happy Spring 2017 to all members of Canadian Royal Purple,

I hope this newsletter finds all of you looking forward to warmer days and the fresh colors of spring like I do!

Lots of things have been happening on the National Board, and lots of things are happening in the Provinces as Annual Gen-

eral Meetings are fast approaching. Nationally, we held a team meeting March 9 to 13th hosted by the Edmonton Royal Pur-

ple. Attendees included the entire National Board of Directors, the Volunteer National Administrator, National committee

members, and Provincial Association representatives.

We had great discussions about membership awareness, what works for promotion of Canadian Royal Purple across the coun-

try, samples of items for the National Store were reviewed, review of the National website and Facebook along with great tips

on “boosting” events and how that works, a review of the process of proper motions, amending motions, discussions, and

votes….and the list goes on. All in attendance agree that this meeting was invaluable to the leadership of the organization as it

allowed us to communicate openly and positively both Nationally and Provincially.

Our Manitoba and Ontario Associations need our help! We need to help get new lodges up and running, rejuvenate those that

exist and encourage participation in the Provincial Associations. And hopefully, that help is coming via a promotion idea for

all provinces, and our proposed budget. Ideas are brewing and being discussed at the National level – watch for news!

You will see more of the excitement building up for the National AGM in Sault Ste Marie (aka the “SOO”)

where we get the great opportunity to gather together and build the future of Canadian Royal Purple – see VP Lorraine’s notes

in this newsletter! We need a bid submitted for the 2018 AGM and Convention so please consider the opportunity that can

give your community.

So far I have accepted invitations to attend Saskatchewan Provincial AGM – April 22, Manitoba Provincial April 29 (and I

hope to visit some lodges and members in Manitoba time permitting as well), Medicine Hat Lodge 60th Anniversary May 6th,

Prince George Royal Purple (parade) May 27, BC Provincial AGM May 28/29/30, and Alberta Provincial AGM June 2, 3. I

intend to do some lodge visits in British Columbia prior to and around the BC Provincial AGM – So Keremeos, Port Coquit-

lam, Osoyoos, Prince Rupert, Smithers...I will be contacting you so I can come out and help you with a community fundraiser

and promotion of Canadian Royal Purple! I have other lodge visits I’d like to do, so don’t be surprised if you hear from me

soon. Wishing everyone good deliberations at their Provincial AGMS, and I hope to see you in the “Soo”!

TEAM MEETING – EDMONTON, MARCH 10, 11, 12

Edmonton Lodge #22 made its debut as an exceptional host at this Team Meeting. The National Directors, Provincial Presi-

dents and Vice Presidents and National Committees came together at Edmonton. This Lodge created fabulous meals, fatten-

ing coffee breaks and gave a great social time for everyone. Thanks, so much Edmonton members.

The Team meeting agenda covered many topics for the whole group and also made sure there was time for just the commit-

tees to meet and deal with matters pertaining to their roles in the organization. The National Directors had time to meet with

an agenda of their own.

There was a website demonstration to help those attending be aware of what is on the National website and how to navigate

through it. (canadianroyalpurplesociety.org). There was some discussion on how we need to increase our efforts to market

CRPS to the public. The new Lodge Resource Manual and Policy for the Purple Book of Memories are available and the

Proclamation for Royal Purple Week on May 14 to the 20, 2018 were presented.

The Financial year to date statements was studied and a draft budget was set up.

The National Directors included in their agenda a short vision workshop to set up future goals of CRPS. They brainstormed

on what was important to them for the future of CRPS. After several minutes of individual thinking and several more minutes

of group thinking thoughts could be categorized into three parts –

An organization that has leaders that are progressive, solid, supportive, strong, enthusiastic, project a positive attitude, etc. An

organization with members that are active, healthy, growing, increasing in numbers, participating, promoting, etc. And an or-

ganization that is fiscally sound

Results: WHENEVER OUR LEADERSHIP IS STRONG, STABLE AND SUPPORTIVE OUR MEMBERS ARE FUN

LOVING, DYNAMIC AND DEDICATED.

How do we reach this target group of future leaders to share information and train and support?

For the convention and Annual General Meeting in Sault Ste. Marie a guest speaker will discuss leadership and the role of the

leader and steps needed to create sustainable leaders that are supportive, encouraging, and enthusiastic.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

As I begin writing this, Lodges in most of BC are under a deep freeze!

I was having difficulty deciding on what to write, until I looked at our recent provincial newsletter,

Hands Across BC, and thought, “how can I get all that into one message!” There are SO many things

that Royal Purple lodges do and SO much support given in our communities.

Bazaars, teas, bingo, catering, bursaries, donations in support of women, sports teams, pancake

breakfasts, pie making, concessions at bingos and a rodeo, donations to CrimeStoppers,

scrapbooking weekends, support for Guiding groups and Scout groups, support for “Stock the

Locker”, support locally for hearing impaired children and provincially for the Family Hearing

Resource Centre ( a total of about $10,000 from the lodges in the province!) I am sure this is not all

we do but gives us an idea of how much is actually accomplished by the BCRPA lodges. It is huge!

The Fort Berens Winery in Lillooet makes two wines (one red, one white) with the Canadian Royal

Purple name on the bottle and a brief comment on who we are.They can be purchased on-line. Go to

Fort Berens.

BC is the first provincial lodge to have a male president. Doug Bailey of Clearwater #302 was

elected. Good to have you, Doug.

I have visited Williams Lake, Lillooet, and Ashcroft lodges. After starting out to visit Keremeos, I was

caught in a blizzard at the summit near Logan LakeI will plan to go again in the spring.

It is time to begin the second half of the year. Our BC committees meet in March also, so lots to do.

An update on the Team meeting in Edmonton: as usual a lot was covered. It was very informative to

hear what the other provinces are doing. It really is quite amazing what help is provided by our

organization across the country. We received the new Resource Manual, discussed ways to make the

best use of social media like Facebook, how to properly speak to a motion to mention just a part of

the agenda.

Sending out good wishes to all Royal Purple members for 2017. May you have successful events and

lots of enjoyment as you continue to support your community.

ALBERTA ROYAL PURPLE LODGES ASSOCIATION

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

On behalf of the ARPLA, it is my pleasure to send you all sincere greetings.

My term as President of this association has been very rewarding. I would sincerely like to say thank

you to all our executive and committee members for their dedication to the association and the Royal

Purple.

My theme this year is “Together We Can”. As Helen Keller once said, “Alone we can do so little,

together we can do so much.” At lodge level and the association, you can participate in the

discussions, brainstorming, fundraising, and events. Please know your contribution is of great value,

as you all have different talents and ideas to offer.

Since my installation as President in Sundre last June, I have attended numerous functions

throughout the province.

September 9-11, 2016, I attended the National Committee Meeting in Beechy Saskatchewan.

We had our Fall Mid-term Executive and Committee meeting in Ft. Saskatchewan October 28-29.

In September, October, and November, lodges were visited by myself and the three Vice Presidents.

Thank you to the VP’s for traveling to these lodges. I know weather conditions were always a

consideration, and I thank you for your commitment.

I have my last visit on April 12, and then meetings of all lodges in the province have been attended.

To the lodges I visited personally, thank you for your most cordial and gracious hospitality. I enjoyed

meeting all of you very much. A special thank you for the gifts that were presented and the generous

donations for the Stollery Hospital, Kamp Kindle, and my charity of choice this year, Kids Help Phone.

I represented the Association at the 90th Anniversary of the Edmonton Royal Purple Lodge #22 on

February 11, 2017, and presented them with a certificate on behalf of the Provincial Association. I

also sent a certificate to Lac La Biche Lodge in recognition of their 50th Anniversary.

On March 9-13, 2017, I attended the Royal Purple midterm meeting held in Edmonton.

I also have several functions to attend in the months to come. I have been invited to attend the

District Meeting to be held in Vegreville on Saturday, April 22, 2017.

The ARPLA mid-term meeting is being held in Wainwright on April 6-7, 2017.

Our District #9 is going to have a “Get Together” in Ft. Saskatchewan on April 30, 2017.

The ARPA Conference is being held in Fort Saskatchewan on June 2, 3, 4, 2017. This year’s

conference is being hosted by my Edmonton Lodge #22 and Fort Saskatchewan Lodge #212.

I encourage all members to attend these important meetings; District Meeting, Provincial Conference,

and the National CRPS AGM. This is a very good time to renew our friendships and meet new

friends. A time for all your opinions and suggestions to be heard.

Congratulations to the Lodges that have increased their membership this year. You are all to be

commended on successes you have made in growing your Lodges and our great Order.

Again, thank you to the Provincial Executive Committee members and to all of you who have given

your time and devotion to this great organization.

We were faced with many changes; however, we are going to survive and continue to be the best

volunteer organization in our country, providing support to the less fortunate in our communities.

Greetings from the Saskatchewan Royal Purple Association

This message marks my last message as President and I thank everybody for making

this such a special year. It was great to meet all the Provincial Presidents from across

Canada throughout the year and I wish you all the best in your AGM’s.

Highlights of my year began in Saskatoon at my AGM and then on to a great

convention. Thank you to my Association for pitching in and making 2016’s convention

one to remember.

We went from convention to the fall meeting in Beechy where we all got introduced to

facebook and the website and we’ve kept in touch ever since.

Our province’s March BrainLove campaign is the best ever. Thank you to all the lodges

for your participation.

We are looking forward to our AGM in St Walburg and then off to the convention in the

Sault. Hope every member from our province attends.

Thanks again to my Board, committee members and to all the members in

Saskatchewan for the opportunity to be your president. Happy Easter and God bless

you all.

Each week bring a new adventure to our website. Ann and I have enjoyed your

pictures, updates, and information. Our aim was to make the website modern,

meaningful and a service to the membership. So far we are offering information,

entertainment and all the business documents everyone requires,

Now we are working on the facebook, This has been a busy Facebooking year and it

makes it so special to see what everyone is doing. Thanks for your support everybody.

Coming up new will be a donation page on the website where we will list all the

donations we make across Canada. It should be an eye-opener for members and the

public alike.

Manitoba Royal Purple Association

To all members of the Canadian Royal Purple society, we are now coming to the end

of another successful year. I sincerely hope that everyone can attend Annual

Provincial Conference, April 29th in Winnipegosis. It is a support that your Provincial

leaders need to continue making the Province of Manitoba a great organization of

community and charitable lodges. This year members will vote of the viability of

forming a partnership with Brain Love. What a great opportunity to publicize Royal

Purple and assist a most worthy cause. I congratulate Saskatchewan Royal Purple on

their success with this partnership.

July will be a conference in the Sioux and “Ontario is your to discover “ so I look

forward to seeing many of you that I have met at the AGM.

We are making Strides in increasing membership and would look forward to

increasing lodges and hopefully revive some that have left us.

As my term comes to an end I would like to thank the Officers, Directors, and

members who have worked so very hard in their communities to promote the good

works of Royal Purple.

Our slogan in Manitoba is “Purple with a Purpose”. So many different groups have

benefited, schools, sports teams, seniors, safe grad, safe streets programs and much

more. What would our communities do without us? Keep up the great spirit of Royal

Congratulations Canada on your 150th birthday! In Sault Ste. Marie, PSHRL Anne

Marie Helferty is the Elks and Royal Purple Singers Music Director. In celebration of

Canada’s birthday at each event, they are invited to sing, the first song is “This Land is

Your Land!” Thank you, Anne Marie!

Plans are underway for our upcoming Joint District meeting and ORPA AGM. Sault

Ste. Marie Royal Purple Lodge #155 is the host lodge this year. It will be held at the

Elks Hall 216 Bay Street Sunday, April 30th, 2017.

We are looking for a Royal Purple member from Ontario to sit on the Canadian Royal

Purple National Board of Directors. If you are interested, please contact me!

Thanks to the creative idea from Director Cindy O’Neil our Association has raised

$152.00. At each Membership table, we sell $2.00 Mystery Bags. They have been a

great hit. We have items for children as well. We collect small objects donated from our

members to sell. We will have more Mystery Bags to sell at our ORPA AGM.

Again, this year Sudbury Lodge #148 helped sell tickets for the Canadian Hard of

Hearing Association House Draw.

On March 3rd, 2017 from 9:30 to noon, the “Shadows of the Mind” film festival will

present the film “Moment to Moment” on FASD. A panel discussion on FASD (fetal

alcohol spectrum disorder) will follow. All welcome, free to the public, donations

accepted. Held at the Grand Theatre on Queen Street in Sault Ste. Marie.

Sadly, we lost our long, time member Inez Lehto who passed away December 14,

2016. Inez celebrated her 100th birthday last May. She was a member of Sault Ste.

Marie Royal Purple Lodge #155 and received her pin for 60 years’ service at the Soo’s

Royal Purple Anniversary this past November.

Our Association is looking for Royal Purple Members in Ontario to sit on our Board of

Directors. We are hoping that with the new technology available such as skype, and

conference calls we could connect for our meetings. The geography of our Province

makes travel, expensive, and distant. If you are interested in this endeavor, please

Lady Maureen wore two hats that evening. She is Secretary to Lake of the Woods

Lodge 268. She is also Provincial President for Manitoba.

Proclamation Steps

A proclamation is a formal way of making a public announcement.

In this proclamation we honor the member's dedication, educate the public

on what Canadian Royal Purple does in general terms and invites people to

join the local Lodge.

1. First, use the sample proclamation, add your local information. The

proclamation can be edited for local use.

2. Second, identify the best person/office to approach with the

proclamation. Discuss the local impact and encourage this person to put

forward the proclamation to Council. You may need to educate your

local Council – take the history and contributions YOU”VE made to

your community.

3. Third, make an appointment with the official for the signing of the

proclamation, if possible. Take a photograph with the Mayor/Reeve

signing the proclamation. Obtain permission to use the photo to

promote Canadian Royal Purple Week.

4. Forward the photo to Provincial and National webmasters and local

newspapers for sharing.
