The CWF stands proud of their flagship event and is pleased to partner with the Faculty of For-estry, UBC; our hosts for this 13th edition of DEMO International, and marking the third time the show has come to the west coast since its inception 49 years ago.

The CWF, Malcolm Knapp Research Forest, UBC and Master Promo-tions Ltd., along with the 130 Demo International exhibitors have been working diligently over the last three years to bring you a truly world-class event.

This week’s activities, including the conference entitled “Canada’s For-est Sector: Adapting to a New Reality,” will focus world attention on the province of British Columbia, its natural resources and forest sector. More importantly, it provides industry leaders, company woodlands staff, gov-ernment, contractors, private woodlot owners, research and the manufac-turing sector from around the globe the opportunity to discuss key issues, share solutions and learn of new technologies and innovation.

DEMO International and its companion conference are examples of the types of activities that the Canadian Woodlands Forum undertakes on behalf of its members in order to foster a sustainable and viable Canadian wood fibre supply chain.

On behalf of the Faculty of Forestry of the University of British Columbia, as host of the 13th edition of DEMO International 2016 it is our pleasure to invite you to join us this September in beautiful Maple Ridge in Brit-ish Columbia, Canada, for this great event.

Located just outside greater Vancouver, the UBC Malcolm Knapp Research Forest will provide an ideal setting for DEMO, not only because of the quality and enthusiasm of exhibitors, but also because of the beautiful scenery that it offers.

As host of Demo 2016 we have constructed a 3.4-kilometre loop road through a portion of the forest that was logged in the 1920s and then burned in 1931. Much of the area has been thinned over the years and now carries stands of very high quality coastal forest over 35 metres tall. It is an excellent example of how well the B.C. coastal landscape can grow some beautiful forests in one person’s lifetime.

Organized in collaboration with the Canadian Woodlands Forum and Master Promotions Ltd., this event welcomes your participation.

Whether you are a forestry professional or naturalist, DEMO 2016 will offer something that you will find interesting and enlightening. The lat-est technological advances in forestry – Canada’s largest industry – will be at work right in front of you.

As part of UBC’s Faculty of Forestry, our two research forests extend over 15,000 ha. with representative forest types from both the coast and the Interior of British Columbia. As part of UBC’s Faculty of Forestry and the manager of 15,000 ha both on the coast and in the interior of British Columbia, UBC’s Research Forests have been dedicated to learning about forests and nature since 1943. Every year we market over 40,000 m3 of timber, in addition to operating a sawmill and a world class retreat centre. As an active player in the forest industry, it is an honour for us to welcome DEMO International 2016. The UBC Malcolm Knapp Research Forest is located in the foothills of British Columbia’s coastal mountains, approximately 60 km east of Vancouver. The forest itself is 5,157 hectares in size, a land base containing just about every type of terrain found in the lower coastal region of B.C. As host to Demo 2016 we have constructed a 3.4 kilo-metre loop road through a portion of the forest that was logged in the 1920s and then burned in 1931.
