Le Carnaval de Québec

• The Carnival is in the month of February every year.

• There are ice canoe races, dances, and ice sculpting contests.

• Le Palais de glace is a 60 foot ice palace made of ice blocks cemented together with water.

Bonhomme Carnaval.• Le Bonhomme Carnaval is a snowman with a red

hat and sash.• The snowman crowns the carnival queen, rides in

parades, and can “arrest” anyone not showing the proper amount of spirit.

• Eastern Canada was first settled by French settlers in the 1500s and 1600s.

• In the mid-1700s, France and England went to war, and when England won, it got most of France’s overseas territories, including Canada. This is why Canadians speak English and French.
