Series – ‘10 Questions Jesus asked’Today

‘Can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?’ - Matt

6:25-34

What one thing do you tend to worry about?

Results of

Worry

inner feeling of dread, apprehension, unease, dis-ease about what might happen in the

future“Worry - the advance interest

we pay on tomorrow’s troubles”

Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s household;

Susanna; and many others.

These women were helping to support them out of their own

means

Luke 8:3

Group of women gave financial support

"… do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink;

or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more

important than food, and the body more important

than clothes?”

Matt 6:25-26

Worry is needless

Worry

from Greek ‘merimnao’

‘drawn in opposite directions’

figuratively ‘to go to pieces’

Life is more important than food

Worry is needless

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far

outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen,

since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal

2 Cor 4:17-18

Body is more important than clothes

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in

barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more

valuable than they?”

Matt 6:26

Worry is needless

“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?”

Matt 6:27

See also Luke 12:25

(Gk 'belikia' - can mean span of life or stature)

Worry is pointless

‘Worry is like a rocking chair - it

gives you something to do,

but never gets you anywhere’

Worry is pointless

“If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here

today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will He not much more

clothe you, O you of little faith?”

Matt 6:30-32

Worry is faithless

“… seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all

these things will be given to you as well”

Matt 6:33

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day

has enough trouble of its own

Matt 6:34

Corrie ten Boom

“Worrying is carrying tomorrow's load with today's

strength - carrying two days at once. It is moving into

tomorrow ahead of time. Worrying doesn't empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it

empties today of its strength.”

Peace with God

Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by

faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our

Lord has done for us

Rom 5:1 NLT
