Campus Care has always covered your ophthalmology medical care with a referral from your primary physician. Now, you can get your routine, annual eye exam in the premier Comprehensive Ophthalmology Faculty Practice without a referral using CampusCare Vision Plan. Dr. Timothy McMahon, an optometrist with over 30 years of experience, is a clinician scientist who has led NEI funded investigations of the pathobiology, genetics and clinical management of keratoconus, a degenerative disease of the cornea. He specializes in fitting contact lenses to restore vision in patients with serious corneal disease. Dr. Ellen Shorter is an optometrist with highly specialized training in the use of Prosthetic Replacement of the Ocular Surface Ecosystem (PROSE) devices to restore vision, reduce symptoms and improve quality of life for patients suffering with complex corneal disease. She also fits gas permeable and soft lenses for patients with a history of keratoconus, corneal surgery and aphakia. CampusCare Vision Plan appointments are presently available Wednesday afternoons and Thursday mornings. To make an appointment: Call 312-355-2915 and select 1 (New Patient) when prompted Tell the scheduler that you are making an appointment for your annual eye exam, covered by the CampusCare Vision Plan. You will not need a referral from your primary physician for your annual eye exam, as a member of CampusCare Vision Plan. Prescription for Eye Glasses You will receive a prescription for eye glasses, if needed, at the end of your comprehensive exam. Prescription for Contact Lenses Contact lenses require an evaluation in addition to the routine eye exam. The cost of a contact lens evaluation is not covered by CampusCare Vision Plan and ranges from $50 to $150 depending on the type of contact lenses needed or preferred, and whether you are being evaluated for contact lenses for the first time or having your current lenses assessed.
