INAUGURAL ISSUE
A MESSAGE FROM OUR CAMPAIGN LEADERS
Message From the Campaign LeadersThank you to all our donors! More exciting plans on the horizon.
Campaign at a Glance The campaign focuses on raising funds for three different components: building projects, our endowment and the Salesian Center.
By the Numbers How do all the figures break down?
IN THIS ISSUE:
Dear Friends,
Our capital campaign, A Cherished Past, A Vibrant Future, is underway with great momentum. We are delighted to update you with several key developments in each of our campaign’s three strategic initiatives: Preserving our Charism; Building our Endowment; and Enhancing our Campus.
In just over a year, we have raised close to $13 million towards our $23 million goal, thanks to the generous commitment of 325 donors. Thanks to you, we were able to renovate McNabb Field. This tangible result strengthens our resolve to accomplish the rest of our goals.
Our next project is a revamp of our outdated dining and food service areas on the lower level of Founders Hall. This new space will nearly double our current seating capacity and greatly enhance the students’ dining experience. This $3 million project will add 500 square feet to the dining room and update the mechanical systems. We are in the process of laying out our construction and permitting schedules, aiming for a start date of June 2015.
In addition, our campaign is targeting the following:
• Building our endowment in order to maintain competitive salaries and benefits for teachers and staff and to also limit future tuition increases;
• Funding programmatic and facility improvements; and
• Establishing the St. Jane de Chantal Salesian Center, which is a critical vehicle to maintain our identity as a Catholic institution in the Salesian tradition. We are excited about this $3 million of committed funds to the Center so far, and we have begun implementing programs and formulating an expanded program for the Center.
We are over 56% towards our $23 million goal, but there is still plenty of work ahead and we need your continued support.
This campaign will ensure a secure future for Visitation and will preserve the Salesian values it imparts. We welcome your thoughts, ideas or questions, and as always we thank you for being a loyal member of our community.
FEB2015
With Gratitude,
Sr. Mary Berchmans Hannan ’48, ’50 President Emerita and Director of Mission and Ministry
Ann Sheehy Fowler ’86 and Brand Fowler Campaign Co-Chairs
Daniel M. Kerns Head of School
The almost $11 million building component
of our campaign consists of the following:
✔ Renovate McNabb Field
(Completed August 2014), ensuring
the school’s athletic program remains
competitive, while also reducing
weather-related cancellations, and
increasing overall facility usage
✔ Expand and renovate the dining
room (Due Fall 2015) in order to more
than double the number of students
who can be seated at once. This $3
million project will add 500 square feet
and 250 seats. It will include raising the
ceiling, updating the kitchen area, and
opening up the space so that it is more
comfortable and attractive as well as
more functional for both the kitchen staff
and the students. In addition, this space
will provide a much needed meeting
venue for our Visitation community.
✔ Add (September 2017) 12,525 square
feet of new classroom space to St.
Joseph’s Hall. This $6.8 million project
will include 10 new classrooms, a
1,000-square-foot art studio and a new
science lab. These additions will ensure
that we meet the educational demands
of this century, allowing students’
creativity to flourish and inspiring them to
think innovatively across the curriculum.
✔ Improve the existing classrooms
(September 2017) in St. Joe’s, making
them more conducive to learning with
better lighting and updated equipment

CAMPAIGN AT A GLANCE
The $3 million St. Jane de Chantal Salesian
Center is the cornerstone of our campaign.
Its purpose is to ensure that the Sisters’
Salesian way of life continues to live and
flourish in the lives of all our students,
teachers, parents, faculty, staff and alumnae
for generations to come. The Center will:
✔ Create Salesian formation
programs and seminars, enabling
the community to fully understand
and embrace Salesian Spirituality
✔ Gather and organize the school’s
archives, in order to preserve and make
available our artifacts and history
✔ Digitally archive our 216-year-old
school history, making our story
accessible online
✔ Construct and maintain an online
platform where members of our
Visitation family and others beyond
our immediate community may go
for Salesian inspiration, historical
vignettes, prayers, stories, history
and Salesian guidance
✔ Produce a movie that will capture the
beauty of the Sisters’ Salesian way in
order to both preserve their legacy and
also ensure that it lives on inside and
beyond the school walls
Our endowment is critical as we draw
upon the wisdom of the Sisters, and the
vision of the founders to position Visitation
for a vibrant future in the 21st century
and beyond. Growing our endowment is a
strategic priority for our Board of Trustees
and school leadership. Thanks to five
generous donors, we have already raised
over half of our $8 million goal and have
established four new endowed named
scholarships. Endowed gifts to Visitation
will create opportunities for today’s
students, as well as tomorrow’s. This will:
✔ Create a legacy of support for
Visitation and the community it serves
✔ Provide the school with a
permanent stream of income
that will ensure future financial
stability and flexibility
✔ Augment our financial aid pool,
enabling the school to maintain a
culturally and economically diverse
student body
✔ Enhance funding for faculty/staff
compensation and instructional
programs
✔ Limit future tuition increases
Visitation is a way of life that we all believe in.
Our next project: Renovation of the
student dining room. (Fall 2015)
“ Visitation has a history of transforming and inspiring girls to be intellectually curious, become better women, give back to their communities, and incorporate Salesian spirituality into their everyday life. That opportunity is exactly what this campaign is about.” Ann Sheehy Fowler ’86 and Brand Fowler, Campaign Co-Chairs (Caroline ’16, Maggie ’17)
