Marissa — Ox Lake counselor Marissa recently graduated from the University of Minneso-ta Duluth with degrees in Secondary Education and Social Studies. Marissa once paddled across Ox Lake with only a ca-noe and a 2x4. Goose #: Vegan

Bill — WCB Camp Manager Bill takes care of the Wilderness Canoe Base facilities and property all year round. In his free time, Bill tends to his herb garden and camps in the boundary waters.

Grace — Wapo One Day Grace graduated from St. Benedict College in 2019, and she is now a kindergarten teacher. Grace is known for her superior ability to drive the golf cart around at camp.

A lthough COVID has led to the cancellation of thousands of commencement ceremonies globally, one Florida school found a creative way to celebrate their seniors while still respecting social distancing. Rather than having the teens

walk across a stage, the ceremony was held on the open sea, with grad-uates dressed in gowns, masks, and life jackets receiving their diplomas aboard jet skis.

W hen in-person learning was canceled for the remain-der of the school year due to COVID concerns, on high school math teacher, Kimberly Callahan, was inspired to join Tik Tok to connect and engage with her stu-

dents. Some of her content includes rewriting the lyrics to popular songs to teach math lessons, such as teaching the quadratic formula to the tune of “Crank That (Soulja Boy).” Interested in more ways to make math fun? Go follow the funny_math_teacher on TikTok!

Battle for the mml cup The weekend has come and gone, it was surely a good one. The press week leading up to the champi-onship was iconic and the game itself was one for the ages. Leading up to the week, both teams did their best to prepare for the game and the media had a field day interviewing players. Some of these interviews were par for the course with players such as Shawn boasting, “I trained all year for this and my focus is intense. I will come home with the ‘ship.” Others, such as Cody, were much more laid back: “I really did not think we would make it this far. I’m hyped, but at the same time I kind of just want the season to end.” Overall, the build up for the championship was very juicy and it set the scene perfectly for the championship game.

The actual game was by far one of the best this season. Both teams fought very hard and put eve-rything on the line for this game. In the first quarter, MAGENTA team came out hungry and ready to play. Emerson was on a roll, making sure each of his teammates was able to get up almost as soon as they were tagged. The fast-paced recovery of MAGENTA players gave them an early advantage in the first quarter. By the time the second quarter came around, players on the BLUE team concen-trated on catching Emerson and making sure he couldn’t get back up. In doing so, the BLUE team had a more successful offense and more easily gathered items. At halftime, both teams were neck and neck and the game could have gone either way. After another quarter of action, both teams were getting heated over not being able to take a definite lead. Eventually, it was Grace and Mari who started to pop off. Carrie and Cody tried to stop them, but Grace was too fast and Mari too sneaky. BLUE team ended up winning the champion-ship – their first in ten years! Mari re-ceived the title of Championship MVP for her clever plays, which were exactly what her team needed to win the game.

With another season in the books, every player is itching for next season, which will hold with new players, new rivalries, and new campers. We here at the Wapogazette are just as excited for the next season of MML, which will be back and better than ever next year!
