• This trip is an extension of the school day, all students are expected to follow school rules.

10:35 am Ferry leaves for Orcas Island

11:50 am Arrive at Orcas IslandTake Orcas Island school busses to Camp Orkila

12:25 pm Arrive at Camp Orkila: camp orientation & move in

IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL PARENTS:

• Carpool encouraged

• Students leave Tyee Friday between 12:30-1

• Parents help unload luggage from district truck

• Do NOT park in bus loading zone

LIVING (CABIN) GROUPS

• 9 to 10 students

• Determined by directors & checked by 6th grade teachers

• 1-2 science classmates

• Monday afternoon will be living group orientation with counselor and preparing for the week

• A very important part of camp is to give students a chance to meet new friends and develop social skills.

CABINS

STUDY GROUPS (CLASSES)

• 12 students per study group, co-ed

• Students will attend 10 classes during their stay

• In classes 6 hrs. a day

• All students will experience same classes

• Evening program each night

• Campfire

• Color competition

COUNSELORS SELECTION & TRAINING

COUNSELOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• PRIORITY: Campers safety and well being

• Responsible for assigned students 24/7

• Promote cooperation, organization and

responsibility among campers

• Adhere to regulations, required conduct and

responsibilities (School District Policies)

• Assist campers with dining responsibilities

• Assist with open recreation, evening activities,

and class participation

• Helping campers have a good time

Important Medication Information

• Send ONLY medications that MUST be given at camp such as daily medication that you also give daily at home.

• Please send only “as needed” medications that are for chronic conditions if your student is under the ongoing care of a physician. (Inhalers for asthma, Ibuprofen for migraine headaches, daily allergy medication, prescription creams for serious skin conditions.)

• Please DO NOT send “Just in case medication” such as Tylenol, Advil, Benadryl etc… in case your child may need it for a headache, fever etc… If they have a fever or are ill they will need to be picked up from camp.

If your child already has authorized medication that is kept at school, those medications will automatically go to camp. You will not need additional paperwork filled out.

We cannot administer eye drops or creams. If these are needed, your child needs to be able to self-administer these medications but they must be stored in the camp clinic with all other medications.

ALL forms of medication must have an Medication Authorization form completed and signed by both the parent and Health Care Provider and be in a current non-expired, original labeled bottle/container.

Please provide only the amount of medication needed for camp in original container (no zip-lock bags etc..).

The school nurse is only at Tyee part-time so all medication forms and medications must be turned in to her by Friday, April 15.
