CAMP INFORMATION CAMP MISSIONTo provide campers with a safe and fun environment: where they can participate in camp activities that promote healthy lifestyles and encourage personal spiritual, mental and physical growth.

HOURS OF OPERATIONRides In is from 7:30 am to 9:00 am. Camp program will start at 9 am with opening assembly and end at 3:30 pm with closing assembly. Rides Out is from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT NECKLACESHere at the YMCA we are not only interested in your child’s physical development but also in the development of their character. Throughout the summer, we will use a positive reinforcement program to help your children become more aware of the world around them and how they can contribute to making it a better place for us all.

FEES AND DEPOSITSDISCOUNTSA second child discount is $10 and applies to each additional child from the same family. When you register on-line you must contact your director to receive the multi-child discount.

SCHOLARSHIPSWe also offer scholarships for those who may not be able to pay the full fee.

REGISTRATION, DEPOSIT & PAYMENT DATESAll children must be registered and paid in full by the MONDAY prior to the week of care. If you do not have your child registered and paid in full by the Monday BEFORE the week of care is to begin then your child’s spot will be given away to a child from the waiting list. For example, if your child is attending week 5 of camp, their balance must be paid in full by Monday of week 4. • A $10.00 deposit is required each week to reserve a spot for your child.• All deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable.• All Returned checks will be charged a $25.00 NSF service fee and must be paid within 2 weeks. Once a 2nd NSF

check has been issued to the YMCA, only cash or money orders will be accepted for future payments.

AGE GROUPS & SPECIAL REQUESTSFirst and second grade campers will each be in groups according to the grade they will be entering in the Fall. The

only exception is that if someone signs up for camp and their age group is full, they may be offered a spot in one of the other age groups between 1st & 2nd grades if there is space. We plan to keep the group sizes equal so that no

group is over our 15:1 ration. We will not be able to accommodate special requests.

DRESS-UP DAYSEvery Wednesday campers have the opportunity to dress up based on the theme of

the week. Group pictures will be taken as well as spirit beads given out to those who participate and dress up. As much fun as we have on Wednesdays please remember that your child is still at camp and the clothes need to be something they can move

around in and be comfortable. Closed toe shoes must be worn to camp everyday.

RIDES IN & RIDES OUTRides In/Out will take place at the YMCA Youth Room. Please enter the parking lot from the 6th Street entrance

and pull around the YMCA driveway to the Youth Room doors. Camp Staff will be there to have you sign your child in/out for the day.

TRANSPORTATIONRIDES IN AND RIDES OUT PROCEDURES, ALL LOCATIONSRides In – We do not allow campers out of their vehicles until camp starts at 7:30am. Please be sure to have your pickup card clearly displayed in your front windshield. This card identifies you as an authorized adult. We will have a counselor there to help your child out of the car. This counselor will have you sign in your child and will relay any information you may need to know. All campers must wear a face covering, have temperature taken upon arrival, and have a waiver signed to attend.

Rides Out - Please be sure to have your pickup card clearly displayed in your front windshield. This card identifies you as an authorized adult. It also speeds the process of calling students on the walkie talkies. You will pull up as far as possible and speak to the Director to sign out your child. Please do not plan to pick your child up between 3:30 and 4:00 as that is our Closing Assembly time. If you have to pick them up early, please do it before 3:30 pm. If you have something of a serious nature to speak to a director about, this is not the best time to do it as the directors are very busy trying to get children out in a timely manner and communicate any important information to parents. Please call and set up a time to meet with a director, this way you will have their full attention.

LATE PICK UP PROCEDUREA late pick up is defined as any time a parent has not come to the site by 6pm. In order to run our camp as smoothly as possible, we will enforce the following procedure.

• First Offense – Warning to be documented and signed.

• Second Offense – Fee of $1 per minute late, per child, document to be filled out and signed, parent is informed that the next offense will include a suspension.

• Third Offense – Child is suspended for four weeks from the program, from the day of the offense.

ADULTS AUTHORIZED TO PICK UP YOUR CHILDIf another person other than the parent or authorized persons you’ve listed on the registration form will be picking up your child, you will need to notify us in writing prior or by phone to their arrival. For safety, we will need to see a picture ID when they arrive, before the child will be released.

DAILY SUPPLIESHEALTHY FOODThis year we are excited to be partnering again with Child Nutrition and we plan to partner with Craven County Schools to provide hot, nutritious lunch to our campers each week. On certain days when lunch will be provided, you may not have to pack a lunch, but you will still need to pack two snacks. (Specific days will be announced at Parent Orientation via Zoom.)

Please pack 2 nutritious snacks that do not require refrigeration or use of the microwave. Make sure this snack includes a drink. We recommend these items be placed in a cooler style lunch box, clearly marked with your child’s name. DO NOT use a plastic grocery bag for your child’s daily supplies. If you forget to pack your child a lunch, we will attempt to contact you in order to bring one, if you are unable to do so we will provide a lunch for your child for $5. Some examples of healthy lunch options are: sandwiches, fruit, fruit cups, pretzels, trail mix, granola bars and vegetables. We ask that you limit sugary snacks and drinks as much as possible – they do not give campers the nutrition they need to participate all day in active games.

WATERA refillable water bottle should be brought everyday, clearly labeled with your child’s name.

CAMP SHIRTAfter registering online, you must go in-person to pick up your camper’s one complimentary camp t-shirt. Please have your child wear the shirt EVERYDAY (with the exception of Wednesday-dress up days). This enables us to easily locate and count children in our program. If you would like to buy additional shirts, they will be for sale at the Service Desk for an additional $3/shirt. Campers will not be permitted to join us in camp if they are not wearing their camp t-shirt when they arrive. Shirts sizes are not guaranteed as they depend on availability. We recommend picking your shirt(s) up AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to avoid having to receive the next available size.

SUNSCREEN & BUG SPRAYPlease label all sunscreen and bug spray. Due to insurance restrictions, the staff is not permitted to apply sunscreen directly to campers. We will continue to use the “suntan spray-down” approach with K-5th grade. We also encourage you to apply sunscreen in the morning before your child arrives.

PERSONAL ITEMS FROM HOMEPlease do not send you child with personal items from home, such as toys, ipads, cell phones, and portable gaming systems. These can cause arguments between campers and are likely to be lost in the toys that belong to the YMCA. All personal toys should be left in the car at rides in. The YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen goods.

HEALTH & SAFETYDRESS CODEMasks must be worn by campers at all times. Please dress your child in clothing that is comfortable and ok to get dirty. Daily activities include active and messy play; it is very hard for children to fully participate when they are worried about getting their “good” clothes dirty. Please have your children wear nonskid shoes for their own safety. No flip-flops, sandals, or Crocs. You must have proper footwear in order for your child to attend, it is just as important as the camp t-shirt. Please write your child’s name inside all of his/her items, this will make it much easier to find lost items.

HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICIESIf a child has any of the following symptoms, he/she will be isolated from the other children until the parents are contacted to pick him/her up:1. Nausea or diarrhea.2. Constant cough or difficulty breathing.3. Discharge from ears or eyes, inflamed tissue around eyes and ears.4. Any visible rash or skin sore.5. Oral temperature of 100 degrees or higher.6. Continuing headache.

RE-ADMISSION FOLLOWING AN ILLNESS - The child will be permitted to return to camp when he/she has been symptom free for TWENTY-FOUR HOURS.

If your child has been exposed to someone who tested positive for Covid-19, your child must remain home for 14 days following exposure. In order to return to camp sooner, you may have your child tested five days after exposure, and they may return to camp upon a negative result.

BABYSITTING PROCEDUREStaff members will not be permitted to babysit campers outside of the camp environment. This rule is to protect your children and our staff from compromising situations and any child abuse accusations. We maintain a rule in camp that a staffer should never be alone with a child and this rule extends into the babysitting procedure.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

We are looking for enthusiastic, hardworking

and engaged parents/caregivers to join us

during summer camp. In order to volunteer

with Camp, you must fill out a volunteer

application on our website at least 7 days prior

and pass the necessary background checks.

Please see the director of your camp for

specific details.

DISCIPLINEAt The Y, we value the unique personalities of every child. At the Twin Rivers YMCA Middle School Camp Self-management skills and positive social interactions among campers and adults are encouraged and maximize everyone’s enjoyment of camp. Programs use positive guidance methods including reminders, distraction, logical consequences and redirection. Self-management skills are taught according to the following guidelines: • Consistent rules are clearly stated. Campers are expected to work and play within known limits. • Behavior expected of campers is age-appropriate and according to development level. • An atmosphere of trust is established in order for campers to know that they will not be hurt nor allowed to hurt

others. • Staff members strive to help campers become acquainted with themselves and their feelings. This will help them learn

to cope with their feelings and control them responsibly.

Camper safety is the most important concern of the program; therefore, campers whose behavior is dangerous or repeatedly disruptive must be immediately picked up from the program by someone designated and on the authorized pick-up list. Repeatedly disruptive or dangerous behavior will be discussed with the camper’s parent and will result in loss of privileges or activities, suspension or termination from the program.

CONDUCT POLICIES As in any activity, inappropriate behavior of a few campers can have a dramatic impact on the experience of the entire group. Therefore, the following conduct policies apply directly to each individual camper and will be used in determining the camper’s eligibility to continue as a participant in the camp program. Infractions are documented in a discipline report. Please make certain that both you and your child are completely familiar with these conduct policies. A camper may be suspended or released from camp, without refund, for the following behavior while participating in the program or while being transported: • Leaving the YMCA camp location without permission or going into unauthorized areas • Using foul language, fighting, being rude or discourteous to staff and other campers • Verbal or written threats to staff or other campers • Defacing Y or school property or field facilities or any property visited • Engaging in fighting, intentionally injuring another camper or bullying • Bringing or using any illegal substances and/or weapons • Public displays of affection • Stealing or defacing another camper’s property • Refusing to remain with the group while at camp and during field trips or community service trips• Refusing to follow check-in and -out procedures or refusing to follow basic rules of safety • Refusing to participate in daily camp activities • Not remaining seated at all times while being transported • Having any body part out of the window, defacing the vehicle and/or being rude and discourteous to the driver or to

other drivers on the road while being transported

DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURE FIRST INCIDENT - Parent notified by phone and/or in writing, and the child will be sent home for the day. SECOND INCIDENT - Disciplinary write-up, as well as a three day suspension. THIRD INCIDENT - The action taken at this point is at the discretion of the Director after appropriate consultation with the parent. (Range of discipline: one week suspension to removal from the program.) IF ANY SUSPENSION SHOULD OCCUR, NO REDUCTION OR RETURN OF FEES WILL BE MADE.

A discipline report will be kept on every camper to keep record on the behavior of each camper. This sheet will include what the camper did, what action was taken, and what the next step in the discipline process will be.

A new group of campers may be present every week. Because of this, every Monday, the counselors and the director will go over expectations with the campers. This is to help prevent the offenses from happening.
