Camp Dina Times Trip 1 Week 2

It’s Bunk Gimmel’s turn to perform at this week’s

Shabbos Choir! Almost all the girls have solos and of

course they all look so cute up there on stage. They chose

to sing Shir HaMaalos by YBH, and they learned a fun

HaRachaman Shabbos zemer.

The older bunks attend Drama activity during

the day. Every girl gets to perform in a skit about typical

camp problems that come up in the bunks; your best friend

playing with somebody else, the girl who has the top bunk

sitting on the bottom bunk, to the bottom bunk-dweller’s

annoyance. While acting, the girls wear signs around their

necks saying how to play their part: Popular, Happy, Shy,

Hyper…. What a big hit this activity is! And the best part

is, even the shyer girls who would not normally perform in

front of a group are willing to get on stage by the end,

after having seen the same skit performed so many times.

What a wonderful opportunity Drama gives the girls to

express themselves and to push past their insecurities!

Week 1 Trip 1

Snap, Crackle, PoP !

We packed up our mosaic tiles to make

room for this week’s painting elective. The

girl’s who chose to paint, began sketching

their POP art paintings using the grid

technique. Whimsical drawings were

sketched to life on white canvas. Next week

we will break out the paint to add some

“Snap, Crackle Pop” to our pop artwork.

ZUMBA THIS WEEK WAS HAPPIN’N,

WE DANCED SO HARD OUR FEET WERE DROP’N.

“HALAYLA HAZEH” AND “GUMMY BEAR”

ARE SOME SONGS WE USED,

THEN DID A “FLASH MOB” AT LUNCH –

ALL THE STAFF INFUSED,

TO DANCE TO “NILLI MILLI” OUT ON THE FIELD,

IT LOOKED SO COOL ALL EYES WERE PEELED.

ALL THE CAMPERS WERE CAUGHT OFF GUARD-

AND EXCITED TO LEARN IT, CUZ IT’S NOT TOO HARD!

Dear Parents, We are so enjoying your beautiful girls! We have seen them through a jam packed week of electives, TC overnight, Olympic Day, Wild West Dancing, Colonial Times, Flash Flooding and Camel Beach Water Park, on top of all the usual excitement! Special thanks to Davina and Miri, our energetic Division Heads to bring order and enjoyment to each day. We continue to shep nachas from the kindness that so many campers display thru the week. Camp Dina is a place where opportunities for middos growth abound, and we love it!

What a fabulous week of sports we had here in Camp

Dina. We are learning new skills and having a great

time! The girls are now having three on three pick-up

games of basketball and are mastering forehand and

back hand in tennis. We have some great archery

shooters and we are anxiously waiting for a bulls-eye....

Last Thursday, as the bus entered Stokes State Forest, the campers in bunks yud bais and yud

gimmel were anxiously excited as they waited to begin their Sunset Hike. After a challenging

climb up the mountain trail, we were rewarded with a spectacular sunset. Then we made a campfire,

cooked dinner and ended the day with s’mores and a kumzits.

Sunday morning the TCs boarded the bus for their

three day white water rafting and camping adventure.

They paddled and splashed their way down the Lehigh

River, eating a picnic lunch at the half way mark.

Then we traveled to Hickory Run State Park to set

up our tents and cook dinner. On Monday, after cooking

breakfast, we hiked over the disc golf course. After

lunch, the TCs went over to the lake to watch the sunset.

Grab it! Put the shovel under here! Hurry! Pull!

Pull! Wahoo! We did it! The girls excitedly

planned and dug out huge rocks to help our fire

circle approach completion. I am thoroughly

impressed with their perseverance.

PERSPECTIVES FROM CAMP MOM…….

After our first Shabbos in camp we are officially into the Summer

Season Trip 1. We all felt the beauty of Shabbos and the cohesion of

being a Dina Family once again. Although we had a little “hiccup” in our

routine with a virus we have turned that corner and are back on track.

This week we did our first laundry.

Camp, with all it’s experiences and relationships, offers a growth

opportunity and metamorphosis that is so unique and beneficial. This

growth is most successfully realized in our insular atmosphere here in

camp where it is left to it’s natural course. While girls love to hear from

home the disruption of phone calls takes away from this experience and

hinders the natural adjustment and bonding in this environment.

Looking forward to another beautiful, spiritual Shabbos at Dina and

approaching “The Three Weeks” we find out focus through song,

tefillah, story, and menucha.

We are looking forward to Visiting Day to connect with our families and

share our Dina time together.
