These are ground based cameras on short rails used to film the players making runs down the pitch or throwing the ball in or making tackles

Show all the close up action to make for a better viewing experience They can zoom and pan to provide a range of shots from close up to long

shots.

Camera Set 1

Page 4: Camera Placement

These Cameras are used to get the pitch and the crowd in the shot, shot from the back of the stadium they are mainly used to give a perspective of everything at once, Usually shown when the teams, player layout and other information are shown on the screen.

Camera Set 2

Page 5: Camera Placement

These cameras show the pitch from over head and makes it easy for the commentators to see what is happening and provides an easy view for people at home. It gives a view that cannot be achieved from any person.

Camera Set 3

Page 6: Camera Placement

These cameras are used to show the goals being scored, also used by lines men as proof to whether the goal was offside or not. They give a view that the crowd cannot have. It will give a better perspective of the pitch and provide a better viewing experience for the audience

Camera Set 4

Set 1- The reason for set one being placed on the side line of the pitch is to give a close up view. The audience want to see interesting tackles, fouls, and illegal tackles in the game because it gives a better viewing experience.

Set 2- Used when match details are shown, Used as a good bridging shot and are useful for showing crowd reactions to certain things, This angle would be used before the match and at half/full time.

Set 3- This set provides the “impossible” 360 degree Birdseye view of the pitch. This camera is paramount for watching the match either online or on TV.

Set 4- Probably one of the most useful camera’s in terms of official goal’s this camera can see everything that a human (linesmen) cannot. It also gives a good view for goal replays and suchlike.

Reasoning

Camera Placement For a Studio

Page 10: Camera Placement

Shows all the action from an event, Using multiple cameras and replays.

Gives the viewer a good experience More action gets more viewers Live camera’s need to be constantly changing and there

needs to be lots of them, whereas a pre filmed event would just have one or two camera’s and then the editor will pull its all together to make it flow.

Coverage of Action

Page 11: Camera Placement

The cameras need to all be in constant use to keep the viewers interested, A single shot of someone talking is boring but if the camera angle changes while that person is talking it gives a different view and keeps it more interesting. Likewise with a football match, the camera cuts from pitch to ball to goal to crowd and always changing, it would be bad if the camera was only ever fixed on the ball.

Maintaining Viewer Interest

Page 12: Camera Placement

Communicating meaning means that the cameras capture footage that add emphasis to an event. It shows reactions to the actions on camera. The way the program is shot generally tells a story, the production crew will switch camera in accordance of the events happening in the event.

E.g. Someone say's something about someone and the camera switches to that person who is in the audience

Communicating The Meaning To The Viewer

Page 14: Camera Placement

Studio -Lots of tripping hazards (cables etc) -Low ceilings -Dark -Production crew need to be quiet - Not much space

Location- Unwanted Sound (Planes, Cars, People, Wind) - People and animals wandering into background shots - Weather could change suddenly - Lighting can change at any point which would mean that white balance and saturation would need to change on the camera (weather/clouds)
