It was great to see such a great response with students returning to school. On the first day there were lots of smiling faces and an air of excitement and anticipation. Students went to classes with their new teachers and their new classmates and got stuck into learning straight away. Thank you to the parents who provided our lovely morning tea to families new to the school in 2020. It was a great turn out and a nice way for families to start the year. We are keeping a close eye on the children in our care with regards to any anxiety about the recent bushfire crisis. The Education Department and various organisations have provided schools with information about what to look out for and resources to support teachers and schools. One of the first things I would suggest for now is to monitor how much your child is being exposed to television and social media stories about the fires. News reports carry some pretty distressing images at times and in particular reports of injured wildlife can really impact on children’s levels of comfort and feelings of safety. More suggestions can be found at- https://education.nsw.gov.au/public- schools/school-safety/advice-to-assist-parents- teachers-and-students-following-recent-fires Starting school calm and ready to learn - Set up a morning routine I have had a few issues getting back into the school routine - namely getting up early again! I live a fair distance from Newtown at the moment (coming back into the ‘hood’ soon though) and have found the return to school a bit hard. I know I am not alone when I look at my staff and the children. Getting back into the school routine can be tough. I have thought about how I can make it easier on myself - such as having lunch ready the night before, ironed clothes, bag packed and keys handy. Less stress in the morning. Set routines can be underrated, but the article I have attached below can give everyone a few ideas about how to make that morning routine work in everyone’s best interest - and especially the child coming to school, calm and ready to learn. https://raisingchildren.net.au/school-age/school- learning/school-homework-tips/morning-routine-for- school Staff Photos Attached to this newsletter you will see our staff photos so you can see who is who in the school. Parent information evening We will be hosting an information evening for parents on Thursday 13 February 2020. Teachers will be in stage teams, K-2 and 3-6. They will introduce themselves and share some essential information about what will be happening this term. K-2 will be from 5:30pm to 6pm in the hall and this will be followed by teachers 3-6 from 6pm to 6:30pm – again in the hall.

PRINCIPALS REPORT Dear parents and caregivers,

Welcome back to school. One of the first things I would suggest for now is to monitor how much your child is being exposed to television and social media stories about the fires. News reports carry some pretty distressing images at times and in particular reports of injured wildlife can really impact on children’s levels of comfort and feelings of safety.

Swimming carnival By now you will have received a letter home detailing the swimming carnival for 2020, outlying the fact we will be holding it over 2 days. The event is open to students aged 8 to 13. Please note that if your child is in Year 2 and turning 8 it is not compulsory for that child to attend. We are taking only those 8-year olds in Year 2, who can swim competently and confidently, the full 50 metres. Camdenville School Band - for Years 3 to 6 We will begin our new band program in Week 4 – on Monday 17 February at 8:00 am. Kyle Eardley, the Band conductor has identified a number of tutors who will be available to teach music to interested students before or after school. Once we know the level of interest and commitment the P&C will purchase instruments for students to loan in the first instance. The instruments we hope to be able to offer are:Trumpet, trombone, baritone, French horn, clarinet, flute, percussion, saxophone and bass. The school can offer a few scholarships to support those families who have children keen to commit but may find the additional expense prohibitive. Please go to the Google Form to sign your child up for tutoring to enable them to become part of our school band in 2020. https://forms.gle/C4DgZF85vaWu5kpD8 Cook Book for sale - Cooking for a cause

Our Stage 3, 2018 project, Cooking for a Cause, was a fantastic collaboration with the Newtown Asylum Seekers Centre. The Stage 3 students and their teachers worked over 3 terms to produce the high-quality text with the generous support of many of our expert parents. The profits from the sale of the cook book will all go to the Asylum Seekers Centre to assist in their important work. The cost of the cook book is $35 and can be bought over the counter at the school office. We have many copies on sale. It is a quality production so come take a look. Device Awareness Workshop for parents- Thursday 27 Feb, 6:30pm- 7:30pm Psychologist Alena Piccolruaz is running a presentation for our community, 'Parent Education Workshop: Children, Adolescents & Electronics Use' on Thursday 27 February at 6:30pm - 7:30pm. The workshop should provide parents with advice around device use, social media awareness and how to connect with children and teens in today's world of technology. School Stream Sign Up- And the end of paper notes going home Don’t forget to load our school communication app on to your phone today!
