Welcome to CamdentonHigh School, Home of theLakers! It is certainly anexciting time to be a Laker,and we are looking forwardto a successful fall season of CHS activities. With thehard work and commitmentof our students, coaches,

and sponsors we are sure to continue that winningLaker tradition that is second to none.

As we look forward to a new season of activities,it is important that we thank our community forthe overwhelming support provided to our students,our activities, and our school. By continuing towork together, we are sure to maintain a positivelearning community for our students and help

them achieve great successes both in the classroom and on the field of play.

Extra-curricular programs are an extension of the classroom, and they play a significant role in our students’ education. Participation in theseactivities allows students to learn the importanceof individual responsibility, competition, andteamwork, all of which will contribute to theirfuture achievements. Through their commitmentto team success, students also learn valuable lessons regarding character and sportsmanship thatwill help them become productive citizens andadults. Welcome to the home of theLakers! My name is JeffWhitney and I’d like to take thisopportunity to welcome our fansand guests to another great yearof activities. As the Director ofAthletics and Activities, I amhonored to be acquainted andassociated with the students, staff and community that makes

Camdenton one of the finest school districts anywhere.

Extra-curricular activities play a very special part in ourschool’s educational program. Our school and communityare dedicated to our students’ pursuit of excellence andthe values taught by interscholastic competition. Theplaying field is viewed as an extension of the classroomwhere lessons about sportsmanship, self-discipline, and perseverance are often learned. In addition, thesecompetitive endeavors offer opportunities for studentsfrom diverse backgrounds to learn the value of teamwork,cooperation and mutual respect. We know it is qualitiessuch as these that will help develop the productive citizens and sound leadership of tomorrow.

As spectators, we too are an important part of this “classroom” and the lessons taught. We should alwaysremember that our actions will speak much louder thanour words. With this in mind it is essential that we serveas positive role models for our student body. Officials,coaches, and student athletes will often fall short of perfection; this is to be expected. In regard to our students, coaches, and players we should remember thewords of Theodore Roosevelt when he said, “It is not thecritic who counts, not the man who points out how thestrong man stumbled, or where the doer of deeds couldhave done better. The credit belongs to the man who isactually in the arena; whose face is marred by the dustand sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; who knows the greatenthusiasms, the great devotions and spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best, knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who, at worst, if hefails, at least fails while daring greatly; so that his placeshall never be with those cold and timid souls who knowneither victory or defeat.” Enjoy the contests scheduledthis season - our students and coaches have workedextremely hard to give their best performance. The Fall 2014version of the CamdentonHigh School Pride of theLake MarchingBand will betaking audiences

on an Arabian Odyssey. The costuming, staging,music and instruments all combine to provide ourfans with a show full of distinctively Middle-Easternflair.

The music for our performance comes from many different eras and composers. It opens with a veryfamiliar theme, Lawrence of Arabia, written byMaurice Jarre. It moves into an extended excerptfrom a romantic-era classic entitled The Moldau, by Bedrich Smetana. The show concludes with manythemes from the recent wind band piece Arabesque,by Samuel Hazo. Also watch for some outstandingwoodwind soloists to add to the exotic flavor. All ofthe music has been arranged once again by Don Hill,one of the most popular marching band writers in thecountry.

The band will be traveling far and wide again thisseason. Our contest performances include shows in Blue Springs at the KC Preview of Champions andin Ozark at the Pride of the Ozarks Marching Festival.Our biggest shows again this year are at the BrokenArrow Invitational just outside Tulsa, Oklahoma, andat the Bands of America ™ Super Regional in St.Louis. The Super Regional is a showcase of sixty of the best bands in the country competing over two days in the Edward Jones Dome in downtown St. Louis.

Paul Baur is the director of bands, assisted by MikeFenn and Amanda Fall. Our director of percussion is Alisha Baur. Our color guard director is TimRoettgen, assisted by Chris Garstang and KaylaPatterson. Additional band staff includes Austin Jay,Tom Pannullo, Aaron Short, Kristi Patrickus, NateGerstenecker, Scott Toosley, and Matthew Vallot. Our show is designed and written by Wes Cartwright,Darrin Davis, Adam Wiencken, and Don Hill.

The Tradition Continues- If you happen to be an old-school Laker Football fan, this year should bring back some memories. Hard-nosed, smash mouth Laker Football will be the goal of this year’s team. Run-dominated offense with a mix of some passing and a fast and hard-hitting defense will be the standard each Friday night. Last year’s team raised the bar with a 10-2 record, the third District Championship in as manyyears and a fourth straight trip to the Quarterfinals. Thisyear’s Laker squad has their work cut out for them, butthey are not only ready for the challenge, they are eager to step up to it and outwork their opponents. As eachyear’s senior class leaves, new names and faces look to fill in and be part of the Laker tradition. Speaking of new faces, the Laker coaching staff added a new face but he is no stranger to Lakerland. Coach Par Pitts, part of the 1986 State Championship team, has come home.He will be the ring leader of the world famous HOGS. So let’s take a look at this year’s roster. Where do westart? With THE HOGS, of course.

This year’s offensive line brings back some outstandingexperience. Let’s look at our seniors first. CJ Santonreturns at center. CJ received All-State honors last year at his center position. Henry Brownell has two years ofvarsity experience. He is a force to be reckoned with atleft tackle. Justin Murdock had a great year with the JV squad last year and received some valuable varsity time also. Jonny Hollandsworth is back with the team.Jonny has battled injuries the past three years but his dedication and perseverance have him ready to go for hissenior year. Seth Sassman rounds out this year’s group ofsenior HOGS. Seth will be battling for one of the guard

positions. This year’s junior class of HOGS is looking tomake an impact on the line. Juniors Kody Helms, ParkerPitts, Bailey Parrish, Cody Roberts and Louis Leonarduzziall should see some action on Friday nights. This year’ssophomores will look to gain valuable experience on thepractice squad and on Monday nights in the JV games.The sophomore HOGS include Wyatt Danuser, ZachHowery, Dylan Kelley, and John York.

The offensive backfield brings back some experience andalso some new faces. At tailback, Josh Martin, OliverThompson, and Carter Williams will all look to contributeto the ground game. Josh has the ability to run betweenthe tackles and has the speed to get outside. OliverThompson is back with the Lakers and will definitely gethis share of the workload. Carter Williams is a junior andhas the size and strength to punish defenders who get inhis way. Keegan Ray, Michael Smythe, and Josh Keys willplow the way at their fullback position this year. All threeare very capable of being physical blockers and efficientrunners when called upon. The underclassmen who willbe cutting their teeth and gaining valuable experience onMonday nights include Zach Endsley, Keegan Darby, Tyler Leek, Zach Wise, and Stephen Clary.

This year’s receiving corps will probably nothave as many opportunities to catch the ballas last year’s team. Regardless, this group is a talented group who will be called uponto not only catch the ball but be great blockers on the perimeter. Seniors JacobWise, Aspin Hill, Mason Hadfield, andPreston Curry all look to battle for the tworeceiver spots. Junior Michael Terry had a great 7-on-7 showing this summer andcould be our go-to receiver as the year progresses. Looking to push for a startingposition will be juniors Alec Burris andCorey Ginnings. Sophomore receiversinclude Alex Porschen, Tryston Baird, and Austin Stamper.

At the tight end position, Alexx Wilsman, Joey Ginnings,and Landon Knopf are a group of talented seniors whohave good size to set the line back on run plays and greathands to haul in the occasional pass that may come theirway. Jacob Hilton and Parker Stidham will also get theirchance to show their abilities and attempt to work theirway into the games on Friday nights.

As with most years, the quarterback position is usually the last position to be decided upon. In some years, it has come down to a game-time decision. This year maynot be any different. Ty McDuffey and Jordan Knight,both seniors, will battle for the starting spot. Both have

unique abilities which may lead to a possible dual quarterback role. However it plays out, both are verycapable of being the Laker signal caller and leading theLakers to victory every Friday night. Junior Bryce Murrayand sophomore Dillon Decker will look to compete for the JV quarterback position.

On to the Purple Haze. The Laker defense has always set the tone for the physical type of play all Laker fans are accustomed to watching. This year’s defense willreload. The defense returns two starters from last year’sdominating defense. Senior Alexx Wilsman will play linebacker this year and Josh Keys returns to anchor thedefensive line. Looking to fill the other defensive linemanspot will be seniors CJ Santon, Justin Murdock, HenryBrownell, Keegan Ray, and Landon Knopf. MichaelSmythe and Kody Helms will look to contribute and pushfor one of the starting spots. Wreaking havoc on thedefensive line Monday nights during the JV games will be Dylan McGuire, Zach Howery, and Parker Stidham.

The linebacker corps will look to stuff the opposingoffense’s run game. Seniors Alexx Wilsman and Ty McDuffey will anchor the inside linebacker positionwith juniors Parker Pitts and Jordan Licardie pushing for the starting spot. Newcomer senior Kevin Jones islearning quickly and will work hard to get some playingtime under the lights on Fridays. The outside linebackersworking to earn a starting spot are Josh Martin, RileyShriver, Joey Ginnings, Carter Williams, and Ethan Pineda.

The secondary is full of speed and hard hitters. Derek Beck, Oliver Thompson, Jacob Wise, Aspen Hill,and Mason Hadfield all look to pick off the passes of thepresent day, pass-happy offenses. Michael Terry, MichaelHake, Trenton Casady, Trevor Casady, Alec Burris, andZach Wise will also get a shot to break up a few passes this year.

Our kicking responsibilities will be performed by NatePaschel. Nate has a strong leg, which gives us hope in our kicking game. The punting position will be handledby either Michael Terry or Nate Paschel.

This year’s Camdenton Lakers will have five road gamesand four home games. The Jamboree will be held at BobShore Stadium on August 15th at 7pm. Teams expected to attend are Eldon, West Plains, and Marshfield. The nextweek, the Lakers will travel to Hillcrest for opening nightof Missouri High School Football. The Hornets are alwaystalented and this game looks to be a great test to see howthe Lakers can handle a team with speed. On August 29th,the Lakers make the long haul to West Plains. West Plainshas a very talented junior class and will be looking toknock off the Lakers for the first time in recent memory.The following week is the home opener against arch rivalLebanon. You can throw out the records, write-ups andexpectations because this game comes down to who wantsit more than the other. In week four, the Lakers hit theroad again and travel to Springfield to face the defendingOzark Conference Champion Kickapoo Chiefs. TheChiefs will have a talented running back that the Lakerswill have to stop. The following week the Lakers will welcome Parkview to the JOD. The Lakers will have tostop All-State receiver Connor Radcliffe in order to keepthe Viking offense in check. Also, the fans will enjoy thepopular Air Show during pre-game festivities. In week six, the Lakers will travel to Rolla and face the Bulldogs.The Bulldogs and the Lakers have a similar philosophy--run the ball. It should be a great match up of defenses.The Lakers return to the friendly confines of Bob ShoreStadium the following week for Homecoming. The Lakers will face longtime rival Waynesville Tigers. TheWaynesville-Camdenton game is a game you don’t want to miss. With the excitement of homecoming, the Pride of the Lake Marching Band performing the fight song, and 5,000 screaming Laker fans, mark your calendar tomake this game. The Lakers will have back-to-back homegames as they welcome the Joplin Eagles the followingweek. The Lakers secondary will be prepared to stop thepass-happy Eagles. The season finale will have the Lakers traveling to Glendale. New coach Mike Mauk will probably have the Falcons throwing the ball quite a bit. The Laker defensive line will look to have theiropportunities to put a few hits on the Falcon quarterbackas they attempt to throw it down the field. Week ten is thefirst round of the playoffs. If the Lakers earn one of thetop two seeds, they will have a bye and play the followingweek at home. The rest of the season is playoffs and eachweek is TBD, place and opponent.

The Laker staff and players would like to thank each parent for their tremendous support and sacrifice they have made this year and in years past. If you have beenaround Laker Football for many years, you know it is a family. We look forward to all diehard Laker Fans coming out and cheering on the Lakers to victory. GO LAKERS and……..GO HOGS!!!!

Lady Laker VolleyballAfter a disappointing 2013 volleyball season, the Lady Lakers have something to prove. The Lakers will face a tough schedule as they competein the always-tough Ozark Conference. They will also battle it out in theKickapoo Tournament this fall, which features the three-time defendingState Champion Lafayette-Wildwood team and four other schools that competed in the State Tournament.

While the Lady Lakers are going to see some youth in a few spots, theygained some experience through their hefty summer schedule. ReturningCoach Austin Walker states, “With our conference being so tough, we haveto really start playing well early on. The time we’ve put in this past springand summer is going to be very beneficial. I felt like we made vastimprovements during that time, which will pay off in the long run.”

The Lady Lakers return five starters, including senior All-Region, First Team All-Ozark Conference, First Team All-District recipient Schae Vanderploeg. Also returning for the Lakers are Honorable MentionAll-Conference member sophomore Daphne Dinsdale, senior defensive specialist Polly Dinsdale, senior setter Josie Dinsdale and junior defensivespecialist Hanna Lowther. Looking to fill a void this season will be senioroutside hitter Kirstin Thompson, junior right side Katherine Lucas, juniordefensive specialist Sidney Winn, sophomore middle hitter Jordan Wolfe and sophomore right side Mariah Hadfield.

The junior varsity team will be under the leadership of Lindsey (Hale) Wyattthis season. The JV team spent their summer in the gym as well and iseager to get started in August. Stacy Asante will lead a talented freshmanclass this season.

“I am really lucky to be surrounded by great coaches. Coach Wyatt and Coach Asante are great mentors for our younger players and I knowthey will prepare them for beyond this season. Their enthusiasm and dedication to our program is top notch. The future is very bright for us.It’s going to be a fun year!” enthuses Coach Walker.

“People really mean it when they say senior year comes way too fast.Looking back, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. My favoritepart was being able to share it all withmy sisters. There’s no other feeling like looking over and seeing my twobest friends beside me playing the game we all three love. Although I will miss the big aspects of the game,it’s the little memories that I have come to cherish the most. The busrides, the pointless conversations in the locker room, the excitement afterscoring a point in a close match, dinner before home games…. all ofthese things made volleyball more than just a sport for me. I can’texpress enough how lucky I feel to have played a part in this program.Even though I’m unsure about whatlies ahead for me, one thing is certain- I will always be a Lady Laker at heart.”

“I remember walking into OakRidge as a sixth grader preparing for volleyball camp,and now I am herewriting my seniorquote. Volleyball has allowed me toexperience so manyopportunities over the past few years. It has also challengedme to become more of a team player onand off of the court.Volleyball has givenme the chance togrow up with a group of girls that I now call family. I have been with these girls for as

long as I can remember and we have endured a great amount of success along with some failuresduring our time together. The success has allowed us to create an even tighter bond, while the failures have become learningmoments for the team. I am thankful for the chance I was given to play alongside such anamazing group of girls, but I ameven more thankful that I got to share it with two of my best friends who I am proud to call my sisters. After experiencing this rare opportunity, I have become more grateful for the little things that I will alwaysremember. I will never forget our home game against West Plainsmy junior year when we came backto win a very close game, or mysophomore year when we all went to Kailey Lemke’s house. We are all DIY girls and we decided tomake some braided headbands that we found on Pinterest. Thatnight resulted in a big mess on the

The Laker Soccer program would like to say thank you to all those who support itboth during the season and in the off-season.We would not be where we are today withoutthe support, dedication, and hard work of our administrators, numerous parents, community supporters, volunteers, and students. The Camdenton Laker Soccer program, entering its sixteenth season, is looking to establish itself among theConference and the District. This is all possible in large part because of the time and effort put in by so many people who you will not see roaming the sidelines orplaying on the field during a match.

Our main focus this year will be“Excellence”. This not only applies to on-the-field play, but to all aspects of our team. This phrase, and belief, will be included in the way we conduct ourselveson a day-to-day basis. Both at practices andgames we will expect nothing less. In theclassroom and in the community, we willstrive to excel. In our personal lives inregard to relationships and achievements, we will aim for this to be our focus. Ourteam will work each day not only on soccerand the pursuit of a District title, but also on making quality decisions and life choicesthat will make us successful young men.

Last season taught everyone in the program lessons on hard work, dedication,and togetherness. We believe that theselearned lessons will translate into positiveson the field this season and good results will be the outcome. This year’s team looksvery different from previous seasons and theplayers are ready to play and improve witheach game.

The seniors from last season’s team will definitely be missed. Most of them hadspent four years in the program and have had a huge impact on not only last season,but on the entire program. They leave somehuge shoes to fill and will definitely bemissed both in the games and in practice.

This year's senior class is very large. Itincludes Alex Amerine, James Bail, CJBorden, Joey Dutton, Brooks Green, Alex

Hassebroek, Christian Helvey, Josh Hitt,Kael Jackson, Luke Martin,Tanner Moesch,Ryan Moffitt, Riley Paskach, and TristanVieth. Each one of these seniors has spent a lot of years playing soccer and looking forward to this season. These seniors will be looked on to lead the team in every waypossible and be an example.

A few underclassmen to watch will be juniors Cody Meyers and Will Pierce, along with sophomores Justin Gerdiman,Dustin Moesch, and Adam Davies.

This year's varsity team returns somestarters from last year, but the plan is tomaneuver and shift a few players around.This will create some position openings that were not there last season. That leaves many spots out there to be filled this season by upcoming players of all ages. The competition for those open spots should intensify each practice, drill,and moment on the field. We are also transitioning into a new formation this season and look to be a more complete team in doing so. This new style of play fits well with the strengths of our playersand brings out the best in their talents tobenefit the team as a whole.

The junior varsity had a very successful2013 season. They finished with a winningrecord again to make it seven years in a row that that has happened. Much of theirsuccess will be counted on to translate at the varsity level this season.

The 2014 season coaching staff remains thesame, with Coach Ingold returning as thehead coach, while Coach Stuart will serveas the program's goalkeeper coach andCoach Byington will direct the junior varsity.

We would love to see you out at a few, if not all, of our games this season. Wereally look to make some improvements in a few areas and hope to be competitive andready to compete each night. Our districtopponents are different this year, as we havebeen moved into Class 3 about which we areexcited. We have a very tough schedule this

season, but with enough focus, teamwork,and preparation we feel as though we will be able to come away with some positiveresults.

SoccerAlex Amerine“My first year in the program started out hard. I was the new kid in school and I didn'tknow anyone. The people on this team did an awesome job making me fit in. They didn'tleave me out of anything or make me feel notwanted on this team. After the first couple ofweeks I felt at home. I was happy to call myteammates my new friends as well.

This sport has meant a lot to me. It's been a lot of fun with all the winning, the team

bonding, and making new friends. It's always tough dealing with loses and injuries. But the team learns from losses and we always work hard to get the win next game.”

James Bail“I don’t think anything could be more tellingof the impact that this team has had in my lifethan the fact that my friends on the field arealso my best friends off the field. Even aftertaking two years to do something else, theseguys were here to support and encourage mein other facets of life. My time with this program has also taught me that sometimesyou shouldn’t just stick with the things you are best at, but rather with the things that you love.”

CJ Borden“Every year, it is the job of the seniors to lightthe fires of determination and will for theentire year. Our coaches provide us with themeans; however, we seniors must create theignition. Now the question is, will our flamebe a mere flicker as we pass through our finalyear, or will our spark create an unforgettableflame of impossible proportion? Now as Ihold the lighter held by seniors of previousseasons, my only desire is TO BURN ITDOWN! Get ready boys, because here comesthe boom!”

Joey Dutton“My first year in the program was a learningexperience. I was playing for the first timesince my ACL surgery and I learned how hardI needed to work in order to play at the levelof soccer I wanted. However, I couldn’t havedone any of it without the team. Each yearthey continued to push me and help mebecome a better player. My favorite momentwould probably be any time the team stayed in a hotel for the Show-Me Games because we all got to hang out and bond. After high

school, I plan on going to college somewhere in the state to major inathletic training.”

Alex Hassebroek“Playing with this team really bringsback memories. I have played with theseguys for as long as I can remember.They’re all a big part of my life - fromthe days of kicking the balls around on the LOSA field to traveling toSpringfield for the club games. Playing soccer on this team has reallyimpacted me to get closer to these greatguys. I would like to give a big thanksto Coach Ingold and to my mom for

always believing in me. This year we’re ready to make this a great season.”

Brooks Green“Being on the Camdenton Lakers Soccer team is one of the best decisionsI have ever made. These past three seasons I have played my heart out. I have made life-long friends, I have been pushed to my limits both emotionally and physically, I have experienced sadness and joy, I haveworked harder than I have ever workedbefore striving for excellence, and I am such a better person for it. team is going to go all-out all eighty minutes of EVERY gamethis season. The team is going to leave everything on the field,no regrets. Tristan Vieth“Playing high school soccer has beensuch an amazing experience. My teamhas grown together through the years to become more of a family. We haveput in a countless amount of hours practicing, playing, and hanging outtogether. I’ve met some of my bestfriends through soccer. Being on thatbeloved field with them was worth everysecond of it. I wouldn’t trade playingsoccer with these guys for anything.Though it kills me that it’s my last year

playing Camdenton Soccer, I am very excited to go hard and winsome games this final season.”

Riley Paskach“I played soccer for all four years of my high school career, and I can honestly say that without the sport, and to a greater extent, the peopleinvolved, I would have become verifiably insane.”

Ryan Moffitt“My experience during the past four yearswith this team will be unforgettable. Thereare so many funny stories I could tell aboutus…like the trip to Marshfield my junioryear, where we all took Helvey’s stuff andpassed it around the whole bus until henoticed. But the most important part ofthis sport to me wasn’t winning, it wasn’tthe fun; it was the lessons I learned from my team and my coaches. Without them, I don’t know where I’d be. Soccer has

made me feel more motivated in life than just about anything elsehas. With that being said, I want to thank God for giving me thetalent to play and my family for everything they sacrificed in orderfor me to play. The lessons and memories from this team will staywith me forever.”

Kael Jackson“My first year in the program was myjunior year and not playing soccer inalmost 12 years really set me back compared to the other players on theteam. Knowing that I hadn’t played in 12 years, all the players helped methroughout the season, whether it waslearning new tricks, positioning on thefield, and even how far you can gobefore the first yellow card is drawn.Overall, our soccer team - whether

you’re new or a veteran - is one big family; when someone on the team needs help with anything, it’s usually another teammatewho helps them out.”

Josh Hitt“I joined the soccer program my freshman year and quickly recognizedhow welcoming everyone was. They had no problem accepting another player, as long as he could withstand the conditioning. A break was taken my junior year as I didn't feel I had my heart in it anymore. As the summerneared, I realized there was somethingspecial about the upcoming team andtheir dedication. With that, I began

training once again and fell in love with my team and friends as we strived for excellence.”

Luke Martin“Soccer has been something that has grown on me. I’ve been playingsince fifth grade, and have only had one year off (bad mistake on my part).It’s been there when people haven’t, and I’m thankful for that. I probablywon’t continue to play competitively in college, but I will always rememberthese times.”

Tanner Moesch“Playing for Camdenton has been a great experience thus far. This is whereeverything started and will always hold a special place in my heart. This teamhas given me the platform I need to continue playing soccer at the next level. On top of that, I couldn't haveasked for a better group of guys to playwith for my past three years. I'd like to thank Coach Stuart for the countlesshours of individual training he's put

in for me. I'll always be grateful for everything this team hastaught me on the pitch and in life.”

LAKER CROSS COUNTRY - You Better Be Running!It’s a crisp fall morning, the leaves have turned, and theanimals are storing up food and fat for the long winterahead. All is peaceful and quiet but then you hear a loud“crack” of a gun and all heck breaks loose. What followsis one of the greatest spectacles in all of high school sportsas scores of athletes embark on a 3.1-mile race challengingeach other and the course itself. There will be only onewinner but no losers because in cross country everyonewill face adversity, pain, and triumph along the way. This is why we love distance running and cross country in particular. Cross Country is a great sport that will challenge anyone that tries to conquer her. We hope to seeyou out at our meets this year to cheer on our athletes andremember--if you hear a gun go off, you better be running.

The 2014 Cross Country teams have high hopes for theupcoming fall campaign and wish to put aside some disappointments from last year. In 2013, several keyinjuries, illness, and other factors lead to a short end to the year with no runners qualifying for the state meet. We hope that with the right leadership and dedication this will be a thing of the past. We have lost several runners to graduation and other sports, but I am excitedabout this year’s squad and hope to see you at State inJefferson City in early November.

The boys’ team has two letterman returning in senior ColeRoam and junior Blake Jesse. Cole has been in the XCprogram for six years. I truly appreciate the fact that hehas stuck with the program all these years and have had the great opportunity to watch him grow into a fine young

man. Cole will be our team captain this year as I look forward to seeing him lead a young squad. He will have a tough time leading our inexperienced squad,but I have faith in him that he can handle this mission.Just so long as he doesn’t lose the “golf club”. Blake Jesse is looking to rebound from last season as he fell a bit short of his goal of making State Sectionals. Blake was hampered by an early season injury that tooksome time to correct but came on strong at the end of theseason to finish as our number two runner. Blake is verydedicated and has a strong desire to make his goal this year - I think he can. The only other returner from lastyear is sophomore Coleman Roberts. Coleman gainedstrength and experience in this freshman tenure and Ibelieve this year he will make even bigger improvements.We hope to have several other new faces this fall and lookwith anticipation for the help in solidifying our squad.

The girls’ team is similar to the boys’ as we return just three runners from last year’s squad. The good news is that the best two runners in school history lead the team.Senior Faith Scheidemantle has 14 of the fastest 40 timesin school history, is a three-time State Sectionalist, and a State qualifier. Faith is our team captain this year andshe leads by example of never giving in to adversity. Faithbattles asthma every fall but seems to get strong at the endof the season and came within a few seconds of making a return trip to State last year. She has worked hard in theoff-season and I am really looking forward to seeing herrun this fall. As our captain, Faith possesses the leadershipqualities every coach wants to see as she is a caring and

Cole Roam“Cross Country has been a big part of my lifethe last six years. It’s often challenging, butgetting the chance to compete with manygreat people makes it well worth it. Alongwith meeting new people, I have createdstronger bonds with coaches and friends.

My time on the Camdenton Cross Country team has been an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything.”

Faith Scheidemantle“Cross Country is one of those sports thatstarts out as a hobby and turns into a lifestyle.I never expected to become so invested insomething that others hate so much. Maybethat is a big part of the appeal. Sometimesrunning sucks and to an outsider that could

be their only opinion of the sport. However, myyears of running have allowed me to meet a lot of amazing peopleand they have taught me a lot about myself. Running has becomea part of who I am.”

Kyler Virtue“I spent all summer preparing for the upcoming season of soccer. I worked on my fitness level as well as various ball skills. After taking third in the Show-MeState games and summer began to draw to an end, I realized that as enjoyable as the

sport was and as encouraging as the team andcoaches were, soccer just wasn’t a sport that I could effectivelyparticipate in. So after leaving the team, I joined Cross Country.I have run every year since seventh grade, except for my junioryear, and this sport has always beckoned for my return since I left.Cross Country is like a home to me, not because I like to run, butbecause it has a warm, friendly atmosphere that also includes acompetitive edge to make each other better at what we do. I guessto say the least Cross Country is a very intense sport that is notfor the light-hearted. Cross Country will, however; increase yourwill power and help you develop a more positive character. Solastly I want to thank the Cross Country coaches for having me on the team and also the soccer coaches for being understandingand uplifting.”

Junior Tessa Weber is the second part of our leading duo but would rather forget her sophomore year.After nearly passing out in one race, doing a face plant at thestart of another, and then dealing with a season-ending injury atthe Laker Invitational (aka “Mudfest 2013”), you might wonderwhy she would want to run again. Tessa has a true passion fordistance running and doesn’t let things get in her way. Everyyear she sets goals and works tirelessly to achieve them. Afterbeing sidelined for about five months with various injuries thispast year, she is ready to go and has her eyes set on anotherState run. Sophomore Hannah Bentley is our other returningrunner. Last year was her first year and she showed greatimprovement throughout the season. The girls are lookingforward to several new runners joining them this season.Juniors Charley Blair and McKayla Hines are readyingthemselves to run again after injuries in their freshman year.Sophomore Raleigh Johns enters her first year and has shownpromise over the summer. I think this group of girls, andmaybe a few others, can come together and have a verysuccessful year.

Coach Weber states, “I truly love coaching distance runningand relish the fact that I get to work with some of our best student-athletes every day. Our runners take the ‘student’part very seriously as all but one varsity member received an academic award this past season. These young men and women are really dedicated and truly appreciate your support.”

The 2014 Lady Lakers S oftball seasonbegins with high expectations as they return ten varsity letter winners from last year’s 13-12 team, which finished second in the Ozark Conference. Those ten returnees include 2nd team All-Districtand All-Conference junior infielder BaileyBilyeu and fellow 2nd team All-District and All-Conference sophomore teammatesKelly Uthe and Kylee Compton, both ofwhom return to handle the pitching dutiesfor this season.

Coach Calbert commented on the returningplayers saying, “We are very lucky toreturn so many players who either startedor contributed significantly to last year’steam; the majority of these young ladieshave also enjoyed a very successful summer of playing travel softball andappear ready to build on last year’s success. We are very fortunate to have notone, but two, quality pitchers in Comptonand Uthe and to have a talented infielderin Bilyeu and slick fielding sophomoresKristyn Carpenter and Erin Rasmussen,both of whom started every game last yearat second and first base respectively. Our infield is not the only areawhere we have depth and experience, as junior Kelsei Davis returns behind the dish and seniors Danielle Ballard and Hope Johns return to man the corneroutfield positions along with MadisonSelby and sophomore Jenna Sweatt, who

will give us quality depth throughout theoutfield.”

Freshman Jillian Selander looks as if shewill be patrolling centerfield for the Lakersand fellow freshman Bayley Miller willprovide depth behind the plate and in theinfield and outfield. Sophomore pitchersLogan West and Jenna Sweatt, along withfreshman Lyndsay Boots provide the LadyLakers with valuable pitching depth andexperience. Coach Calbert continued hisanalysis of the team stating, “I think that the pitching depth that Jenna, Logan, and Lyndsay will supply will prove invaluable, and Bayley’s versatilityalong with Jillian’s speed combined withCarpenter’s, Erin’s, Kelly’s, and Bilyeu’sspeed give us tremendous versatility andan ability to utilize small ball.”

The Lady Lakers’ season begins atRichland on August the 22nd followed onthe 23rd by the Buffalo tournament, wherethe softball team will work to defend lastyear’s tournament championship. CoachCalbert enthuses, “While still very young,we have players who possess a lot of experience and versatility and who have tasted success. I feel that the combination of those qualities, along withthe competition provided by our depth,will provide the 2014 Lady Lakerswith a very successful season.”

Returning for her fourth season, Carrie Davis will once again serve asthe junior varsity coach. Coach Davisled the junior varsity to its fourthstraight winning season, finishing 2013

with a 7-5 record. Competing for playingtime and positions on the junior varsity will be juniors Jordan Stanton, MorganKing and Brittany Ware, sophomoresUnique Soto, Hayley Hobbs, Logan Westand Jenna Sweatt. New to the LadyLakers’ junior varsity this year are juniorSavannah Payne, sophomores MerissaJackson and Elizabeth Edwards and freshmen Lyndsay Boots, Megan Rushin,and Kyra Kaszyk. According to coachDavis, “Junior varsity pitching will becapably manned by Logan, Jenna, andLyndsay. I feel that with these youngladies’ desire to improve and compete, not only will we have a fun season, but we should also be able to enjoy our fifthstraight winning season.”

Finally, Coach Calbert finished by saying,“I am very lucky to have the stability andenthusiasm that Coach Davis brings toour program. Coach Davis has a greatlove for teaching the game and when youadd Coach Darby to the mix, you have twovery talented coaches who have a greatwork ethic, tremendous enthusiasm and alove for the game of softball. Given thiscoaching staff and the level of talent andenthusiasm that our players provide, I amlooking forward to the 2014 softball season.”

Danielle Ballard“I’ve been a softball player my entire life.There’s not much else I would rather dothan be out on the field in any position giving one-hundred percent all of the time.The feeling of hitting home runs and beingable to catch or field a ball you neverthought you could is indescribable. One of my favorite moments during mysophomore year was against Lebanon andthe final score ended 1 to 7. Even thoughwe lost, I was so proud of myself for making my first home run and it makes it better since it was against one of ourschool’s biggest rivals. I do plan to playsoftball in college; I do not know what college yet. I have learned so many thingsby being on this team with different coachesand players. I am glad I chose to be a partof this and I thank everyone who has beena part of it.”

I consider it an extreme honor to be leading such a talented andcompetitive tennis team once again this season as head coach of the Lady Laker Tennis team. I remain focused on continuing thewinning tradition that former Head Coach Ted Houx began yearsago, and am once again privileged to have Coach Houx as my volunteer assistant this season. The 2014 varsity Lady Laker Tennis squad will return only two varsity players with extensivematch experience. Senior Finessa Rassel, who was one win awayfrom being a State Qualifier last season, and Junior Maisy Borden,Rassel’s number one doubles partner, will be looked upon for leadership by several new varsity members of the team. First yearvarsity seniors Janelle Blackwell and Taylor Erickson will anchorthe mid-lineup and also looking for additional varsity match actionis senior Nicole Skelton as well as juniors Carleigh Emanuel,Jazmine Aufdenkamp, and Arianna Ernst. All of these playersearned several junior varsity wins during the 2013 season for theLady Laker Tennis team. As a coaching staff we are excited to havea large group of incoming freshman Lady Laker Tennis players thisseason, totaling 13 new members all together! The junior varsitywill indeed have a steep learning curve this season, but outstandingathletes such as freshmen Carter Demark, McKenna Wirths, Megan Bartels, Chloe Price, and Olivia Kline will anchor a young,somewhat inexperienced yet extremely energetic, Lady Laker juniorvarsity team! This will no doubt be an exciting season on the hardcourts for the 2014 Lady Laker Tennis team. We hope that youmake it a point to come out to the Laker Tennis complex and support your Lady Lakers!

These past four years have flown by!Tennis has brought so many great opportunities such as meeting new people, getting out of class early, and on occasion (if Richey’s feeling generous) a stop at the nearest gas station (or if we’re really lucky, McDonalds). In the past four years I’ve had the chance to move from the rank of 28 all the way to the fifth spot, so I’ve had a variety of different partners alongthe way and I’d like to thank them for making my experienceawesome! The Lady Laker Golf team is coming off a successfulmatch season that provided much experience for newgolfers. We finished our match season with a 10-4winning record. The ladies gained tournament18-hole experience in tournaments and placed 6th inthe Ozark Conference. Brianna Knopf and AmberTheobald moved on from the District tournament toplay in the Sectional tournament. The team wassorry to lose Katie Bird midway through the seasonwith a hand injury. We were proud to have Katie Birdand Katie Alford earn All-Conference AcademicHonors and Brianna Knopf, Amber Theobald,Payten Letterman, and Anne Holland earn AcademicAll-Conference Honorable Mention Honors.

Providing experience and leadership for our teamwill be returning senior varsity golfer Katie Alfordand varsity golfers Katie Bird and Amber Theobald.Freshman golfers Amber Wilson and Jennah Schellwill add to our team with their past golf experience.Morgan Righter and Summer Reid will also bereturning senior leaders. Returning veteran golfersand several new golfers will also help us this yearas they continue to gain experience as golfers. Withseveral experienced golfers returning for the 2014season, we will use a variety of lineups throughoutthe season. The Lakers will host an InvitationalTournament at Old Kinderhook again this year andlook to have a bigger and more competitive field ofteams participating this season as this tournamentcontinues to grow. A very competitive tournamentschedule and a busy match season are in store for us.Practice and play will be at our home courses of LakeValley Country Club and Old Kinderhook while also

playing some of our matches at other area golfcourses. The Lady Laker Golf team appreciates allthe area golf courses that allow us to practice, play,and make us feel welcome on their golf courses.

Morgan Righter“It’s crazy to think I’m a senior.Feels like freshman year was justyesterday. My junior year was actually my first year on the golfteam. My dad actually startedteaching me golf the summer beforemy junior year. People might thinkgolf is a really hard sport, but it’sjust a mental game, and it’s a sportyou can play your whole life. Iwork every day to get better at thesport. It is a sport that you can’tjust stop one day for a year, thencome back and start again.

My favorite part about being on thegolf team is the family I have made.I love the girls with all my heart.They are the sisters I’d do anythingfor. Now I have a golf mom, CoachJane Eidson, who has taught methings no one else has, who has (and would) do anything for any one of us girls, present or formerplayers. This is a family I couldnever replace, and a sport I love to play with the two families I have.My senior season will be a time I will never forget, with people I never will be able to replace.”

I, Meghan Steveson, am beyondexcited to begin my first year of

coaching varsity Cheerleading as well as my first yearas a Laker! Since arriving at Camdenton High School,I have had nothing but positive experiences. I have hada warm welcome from all administrators as well as staffand students!

T he Laker Dance team is excited about the upcoming year! They haveseveral fabulous dance routines to showcase! This summer, the LakerDance team attended a National Dance Alliance camp where they learned

a variety of routines to perform at football and basketball games. During camp, theyearned a blue “Superior” ribbon for their team dance. The team also received aninvitation to the NDA National Championship, as well as many blue and red ribbonsearned for individual performances.

Dance Coach Lydia Briscoe states, “I have a team this year that is consisting ofmany girls who have not participated on a dance team before. I saw these girlsstep up at camp and show their willingness to learn and improve. I am lookingforward to working with all the girls and their variety of talents and personalities.”
