DomesticAbuse Course
For DeafWomen inPeterboroughA course aimed at educang women aboutdomesc abuse has been launched in
Peterborough.
The couse, which is funded by Acon for
Deafness and run alongside Women’s Aid
in Peterborough is aimed at Deaf Women
and delivered enrely in sign language and
aimed at deaf women who have been the
vicm of domesc abuse or are at risk.
Ruth Godden, CDA’s professional
advocate, BSL interpreter and
councillor Anna Baker have been
running the couse alongside a trainer
from Women’s Aid.
Ruth Said: “This course is so
important because deaf women
are more at risk of domesc
abuse but there have so far
been no courses available in
sign language”
Ruth has been inhibited to
talk at the convenon of
people who deliver the
Freedom Programme
New Creative GroupAdvocacy Sessions
A new way to provide advocacy is being developed
by CDA. The new group advocacy sessions will run
in Hunngdon on a monthly basis and make use of
creavity as a way of expression of wishes and feelings.
The new sessions are aimed at deaf people with
addional physical or learning needs who may havediculty expressing themselves.
Ruth Godden, CDA’s Advocate who is running the
sessions said: “I’m really excited about these sessions.
Those who want to come will be using art as a way
to express their feelings or thoughts in a relaxed
environment. That informaon can then be used to
improve the lives of those deaf people.”
If you would like more informaon, please contact RuthGodden [email protected]

Chairperson’s ColumnIsn’t Spring wonderful!
I have been lucky enough to
spend me outdoors seeing
the spring owers and some
new lambs. I love seeing thedaodils.
I think the planned CDA walks
that you will see in this issue
are a lovely idea as walking is
great for your health as well
as the chance to have a chat.
I was in Hope Hall on Palm
Sunday and I saw the lovelynew projector in the hall and
it was really good to use.
It is lovely that our hall is
looking so fabulous. I imagine
we will hear of lots of ways
that it has been used in the
next CDA news!
We’ve also almost completed
our Video Studio which will
mean it will be much quickerand easier for our sta to
create videos in BSL to keep
you informed about what is
going on at CDA as well as in
the County.
There is also good news
for the community as we
are recruing for a new
community worker.
I hope you enjoy reading
about what is happening.
Best wishes
Janie Anderson
