From The Editor’s Desk

Principal’s MessageMs. Seebaluck

Nelson Mandela has rightly said, “Education is the most powerful weapon

which you can use to change the world.” In these unprecedented times, if

there is anything that can lead us to normalcy, it is education. Empowered

with technology, the teachers at Cambridge are reaching out to each and

every child, ensuring adequate emotional support required at this juncture

and with online PTM sessions, the institution has strategically kept parents

in the loop.

For each one of us, to learn, unlearn and discover has become the new

mantra. Every teacher, who is nothing less than a frontline COVID 19

warrior, has adopted this new mantra to give the very best to the children.

We shall overcome – all of us together.

‘The toughest thing about success is that you’ve got to keep on being a

success.’ And, the CBSE results have once again reinforced the fact that the

school has kept pace with this success. Keeping up with the times, students

have been engaged in numerous activities with the help of myriad methods

and it’s overwhelming that the students and the parents have responded very

positively. In addition to regular classes, students have enthusiastically

taken part in several school activities. The teaching faculty members are

also taking part in learning programs and have successfully reinvented

themselves to give their best in these changing times.

Together, let’s create what Charles Dickens referred to as the ‘best of times’in these ‘worst of times’.

TIMES SCHOOL SURVEY 2020

The school has been ranked 5th among the top 10 schools of South East

Delhi in the Times School Survey conducted across Delhi/NCR for the year

2020. The month long research took into consideration various

parameters which were analyzed after an intensive desk research, factual

and perceptual survey based on data collected from the school teachers,

parents of existing students and students themselves.

It is also a moment to express sincere gratitude towards the parents who

have supported the school in all endeavours and helped it to evolve with

the changing paradigm of education. The unwavering support and words

of appreciation are a constant source of motivation. Let the synergistic

efforts take the school to greater heights!

ONLINE TEACHING SESSIONS

The quest for learning is unquenchable. In order to create the best learning

environment, various online teaching learning platforms have been explored.

At present, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams have been inculcated as the primary

mode of online teaching-learning sessions. In addition to these platforms, Google

Classroom is being used to provide all the enrichment material at one place for the

students to access.

The interactive learning has got strengthened with the effective and safe use of

screen sharing to show and discuss live videos, flowcharts, PowerPoint

presentations, engaging activities, assignments, separate practical periods, doubt

clearing sessions and periodic tests through Google forms. The parents have

regularly been updated about their child’s progress through virtual PTMs.

CSS teachers are tirelessly working towards the holistic development of the

students. Various inter-section activities are organised every month to recreate the

offline school environment and to lend them a hand that helps them to step out of

their books. Regular class assemblies accentuate this feeling further.

ONLINE ASSEMBLIES

21

The school observed World Environment Day on 5th June with

Biodiversity as its theme this year. Biodiversity makes it possible for

humans to survive on this earth as it is an intricate web of

interdependent species and the removal of even one can lead to the

alteration of life as we know it. On this occasion, the students took a

pledge to protect, restore and preserve biodiversity for a better

future.

On 22nd June, the school resumed online classes after the summer

vacation and students began the day with a tribute to the Indian Army

and healthcare workers guarding the country in these unprecedented

times. The special assembly began with the school prayer followed by

a two-minute silence to pray for the martyred soldiers and Covid-19

victims. It was followed by inspiring speeches, songs and poems

presented by the students on the courage and grit of our soldiers

protecting the nation from foreign invasion and medical warriors

fighting the battle against the pandemic.

Each class conducted virtual assemblies in July on various themes such

as Never Give Up, Patience, Music, Positivity, Confidence, Gratitude,

Strength, Mental Health, Time Management, Meditation, etc. The

students presented inspirational speeches, recited heart-touching

poems and presented mono acts from home.

OUR CREATIVE PURSUITS…THE MYSTERIOUS ICON

Once upon a time,

There was an online class,

There are three types of matter,

The class is full of chatter,

About a form called Gas!

Then, our teacher receives a sudden request,

To join the meeting,

After all,

It is not a real class,

Because there is no arrangement for seating.

" Does anybody know him?“The teacher asks.

A kid scratched his head with his video off,

" I have finished all of the home tasks!“A girl told the ma’am.

" Is he a hacker?'' Everybody thought,

Everybody wondered,

with panic all around

On second thought,

panic is not around,

'cause social distancing is in town!

AN ANGRY SUN

Once upon a time the Sun lived on land. He was

very friendly. He had tried to make friends. He

wanted to play with children but no one would

play with him because he was very hot. One day

he was very angry because no one played with

him. He did not know the reason behind it. So,

he started to tease people. Now people were in

trouble. So, they prayed to God to get rid of the

Sun. God heard their prayers. He appeared on

land and sent the Sun to the sky. In this way,

Sun started to live alone in the sky.

RAINY SEASON

The rainy season is also known as monsoon

season. It starts in the month of mid of July

and lasts until mid- September. It is an

enjoyable season but enjoying too much in

rain can cause some diseases like fever, cold

and flu, malaria, dengue, typhoid and many

more which can harm us a lot. We must not

collect rainwater near a dirty place and

maintain hygiene properly. We should not

drink any cold beverage and eat warm items.

Avoid eating any uncovered food. We must

eat foods that build our immunity like garlic,

bitter gourd, etc. We need to drink soup,

ginger tea, warm milk, etc. They would build

our immunity. We should wear clothes made

with the cotton fabric which are perfect for

the monsoon season. All of us must take

precautions against diseases.

FIRST TIME EVER

It was a pandemic,

With things happening for the first time ever.

Two superpowers being polemic,

Among the doctors who endeavoured.

Every country was locked down,

And the people were locked in.

Though unwillingly in their own towns,

Hoping someday they could win.

Now when everyone was aware,

Of a hindrance to success,

Of an emergence of despair,

They started finding ways to de-stress.

People envied a different world,

Free from unknown viruses,

Which once become a lesson their lives had

learned,

And made them suffer from sleeplessness.

GLOBAL WARMING

Hello everyone good morning

We have to look after our global warming,

If you're done with your breakfast

Then get up and give water to plants,

If you're planning to buy a car then share it

with your locals till far,

Hey, have you heard about floods,

droughts, wildfires and earthquakes?

They all are caused by global warming, so

get up what are you waiting for friends?,

This world has become very dirty,

So we have to take care of it's beauty,

Get up and plant trees in our self made hell

So that we can breathe well,

Start planting trees, saving water, saving

electricity and using carpool etcetera,

So our Mother Earth will be pure in the

new era.

A STORMY DAY

I love rainy days as we can jump in

puddles, wear raincoats and play in the

rain. It is always fun on rainy days. But I

hate rainy days if I am at home. It is so

boring, we can’t go out and play,

especially when I am alone in the house.

So as I was alone at home one day, I

thought of having fun in the house. I

started playing tennis in the house. After

playing I noticed that I have made a

mess. I broke all the kitchen utensils and

my mother’s favourite vase. When I went

into the room, I saw that I broke my little

sister’s favourite soft toy (My sister had

gone shopping with my mother).I was

doomed! If I didn’t fix this all, my

mother would kill me. Then I got an idea!

I thought to tell my mother and my sister

that a thief broke into the house and

when I started fighting with him, he

made a mess and went away. I thought

my mother and sister would fall for this

trick. I waited for them and told

everything as I planned. But my mother

understood that I was lying, and I don’teven want to think what happened next.

From that day onwards, I hate sitting

inside the house on rainy days.

GHOSTS

Ghosts are around us, they peek,

With us, at night ,they play hide and seek!

They give you a fright ,

On dark stormy nights!

You see their shadows on the walls

And on dark empty halls!

You can hear their spooky cries,

Through the walls, here & there they fly!

In an old fearful haunted house they live,

Spine chilling cries they give.

Outside the building, people don't dare

To go near the Ghost's Spooky Lair.

A GIRL

Lil’ one asked God, ‘What is my mistake?’Why did they forsake?

How did I cause so much heartache?

The love that was so fake.

I told them I was born as a girl,

Born, to shine like a pearl,

In my own little world,

To swirl and swirl.

They confined me at night,

Emancipated me by twilight.

This misogynist and patriarchal mind,

Was the reason of my plight.

They blamed my clothes,

As the reason behind provokes,

I considered them as jokes,

And still had big hopes.

I felt distraught.

When I was caught

I had this forethought,

So, I fought and fought.

Then, I rose,

And gave them blows.

I showed them, I was not low,

And, I could glow and glow.

God, power to you!

Because only you knew,

That all I need,

Is freedom indeed.

In a Pensive Mood…

Why is that we often take for granted the very things that deserve

our gratitude the most? Why are we not grateful about the

blessings bestowed upon us? Have you ever thought where you will

stand if all of your existing blessings were seized?

The problem is that people take things for granted on a daily basis,

they think all of their possessions will last with them forever. You

only know how cold it is when you are no longer protected by

layers. You only feel pain when it is inflicted. You only feel power of

light when you’ve spent time in darkness. You only realise true

significance of something when you’re devoid of it.

Instead of chasing for a better thing, don’t forget that you have a

treasure lying beside you. Appreciate what you have before it

becomes what you had. Prioritise your family, friends and loved

ones over work. Allocate time for people you care. Value them for

you never know when you’re seeing someone for the last time. The

best token of appreciation is from the heart. Praise and gratitude

can go a long way in uplifting your lives.

THROUGH THE LENS OF THE MIND

On the eve of our Independence Day, I am reminded of a quote by Albert

Einstein, “Everything that is really great and inspiring is created by

individuals who can labour in freedom.” This makes me ponder on how

important is an individual’s role in defining and upholding independence?

It is true that our country became independent 73 years ago, but in terms of

individual freedom, are we not slaves to

the societal, cultural and

religious pressures and taboos? As a

family-oriented society, we make

others happy at the cost of our

suffering and color it as a great

sacrifice when we observe our

freedom sabotaged through intrusion, interference and emotional

pressure. Do we, as a society, really appreciate and encourage individual

independence and freedom?

Across the times, freethinkers have been attacked by totalitarian forces-

Galileo Galilei, Leonardo da Vinci, Martin Luther King and even Malala

Yousufzai. It points to the fact that the political situation of a country

determines what independence is, and not an individual's intelligence and

courage. Only when we have the freedom to celebrate our choices and

savour the unique experiences of life instead of sticking to the age-old

formulae, we can evolve as individuals and help the society to evolve too.

Having said that, it is also true that the sense of independence is much

more than just individual independence. It is the sense of togetherness,

belongingness and freedom from social evils, myths, taboos, prejudices,

stereotypes and much more. Man is a social being and the sense of

belonging and togetherness is an essential human need, just like the need

for food and shelter. In this generation of selfies, we, as a society, need to

understand that independence is not just a matter of an individual’s choices

and decisions but of mankind at large.

True independence as an individual and a society can only be achieved

when we are intellectually independent and free from irrational beliefs cited

above. To summarise, in my opinion, individual and collective

independence go hand in hand.

MOVIE REVIEW

DISNEY’S MULAN (1998)

I really liked Mulan. It was such an eye opening and unconventional movie that it almost didn’tfeel like it belonged to Disney. Since Disney movies have always been known for their dreamy

protagonists and handsome princes and their typical fairy-tale stories, Mulan was a refreshing

watch.

Firstly, I loved that it focused around such a sensitive yet relatable topic as I’m pretty sure

every female has at some point of her life felt disadvantaged because of male dominance. The

movie handled the whole theme of male domination very well. Then, I also liked that this was

probably the first Disney movie to have a not-so-perfect protagonist and I think everyone must

have found that very realistic.

Moreover, the movie had an actual terrifying villain rather than the typical ugly singing

creatures that are portrayed as villains in animated movies.

Throughout the movie, I’d also thought about how much that could’ve gone wrong since the

movie was based in China and hence represented a whole different race. However, the movie

turned out almost flawless.

I was really happy of how humour had been showcased in the film through side characters.

From the eccentric grandmother hobbling blindfolded down the street to Mulan being targeted

as an enemy by idiotic men, everything was hilarious. Overall, Mulan is an amazing watch for

anyone who’s looking for an animated movie that’s rich with content and isn’t a cringe fest.
