Let me begin by extending a warm welcome to those families returning to Cambridge, as well as the many new parents and students who are joining the Cambridge family this year. The PTA Executive Board has been working hard behind the scenes to bring Cambridge families exciting programs for the upcoming year. Cambridge PTA is actively involved in school activities. Each year we bring two educational assemblies to Cambridge for every student to enjoy. We also host a variety of evening activities throughout the year from Santa Night to Bingo for Books! Additionally, we give each grade level the ability to take an additional field trip by funding their admission and busing. While these things and so many more are the fun and exciting, the most EXCITING thing is that we get to advocate for your child's well-being and education! We pride ourselves on being a large voice for your children. I invite and encourage each of you to join PTA through membership! I also strongly encourage you to become an active member of the Cambridge Community through volunteerism! There are always opportunities for you to give back to your child's school! Please don't hesitate to contact me if ever you would like to become actively involved! I will personally help you take that step! One final little note on this is so profound; studies show that when you are involved with your child's education, your students will perform better academically, socially, and behaviorally as well as have higher graduation and post-secondary education rates. I hope each of you will take that step into PTA membership! We can't accomplish all of our goals without your support! Wishing everyone a successful year at Cambridge Elementary! For anyone who is not familiar with the Watch D.O.G.S. program, it is a fantastic volunteer program that all of the students reap the benefits from.

Dads Of Great Students The program is designed to create positive male role models in the lives of students that may not have that

benefit. It also allows you to be able to spend a day with your child, volunteering in the classroom, playground, and cafeteria and to mentor students.

Cambridge Elementary Will host its annual Watch D.O.G.S. kick off on Monday, September 8th. Dads and their students will enjoy pizza, drinks and a presentation by Levi Borntreger, Top Dog.

We are always glad to see so many returning faces and are happy to introduce the program to the new D.O.G.S. coming to our school. For more information on how to become a Watch D.O.G. please contact the Cambridge Elementary office. Together we can make a difference!

Cambridge PTA Needs Your Help Collecting Box Tops!!

You may have noticed in the cafeteria our new bulletin board has 15 popcorn bags. For every 50 Box Tops you collect and turn in, your child’s class will receive a popcorn piece that will be placed on the bulletin board above the class' popcorn bag. At the end of each quarter, the class who has collected the most Box Tops AND has turned them in in groups of 50 will earn a prize. The class will have the option to get a pizza party, sno-cone party, or new recess balls! We have set a big goal of 12,000 Box Tops collected this year. Let’s work together to reach it!

Make Ice Cream in a Bag

What you'll need • Ice cubes (enough to fill each gallon-size bag about half

full)

• 1 cup half and half

• 1/2 cup salt (The bigger the granules, the better. Kosher or rock salt works best, but table salt is fine.)

• 2 tablespoons sugar.

• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

• 1 pint-size ziplock bag

• 1 gallon-size ziplock bag

• Your favorite mixins such as chocolate chips or fresh fruit.

Serves 1

How to make it 1. Combine the sugar, half and half, and vanilla extract in the

pint-size bag and seal it tightly.

2. Place the salt and ice in the gallon-size bag, then place the

sealed smaller bag inside as well. Seal the larger bag. Now

shake the bags until the mixture hardens (about 5

minutes). Feel the small bag to determine when it's done.

3. Take the smaller bag out of the larger one, add mix-ins,

and eat the ice cream right out of the bag. Easy cleanup

too!

August is National

Immunization Awareness Month

The development and widespread use of vaccines has led

to the reduction or eradication of once common childhood

diseases. However, the viruses and bacteria that cause

vaccine-preventable disease and death still exist and can

be passed on to people who are not protected by

vaccines.

Why Immunize?

IMMUNIZATION IS ALL ABOUT PROTECTION. • Protect from infection

• Protection for your community

• Protection for our future
