OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF HERITAGE RIDGE SOUTH PROPERTY OWNERS ASSOCIATION SEPTEMBER 2019
AT HERITAGE RIDGE SOUTH CAMBRIDGE
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of one of our long-serving, past
Board Members - Marty Post. Marty passed away unexpectedly in June.
Marty and his wife Mabel moved to Cam-bridge in September of 2007. Marty had been a journalist for health and fitness publications. He was very active in office support at Cambridge and then in Sep-tember, 2009 he was appointed Vice Pres-ident to fill a vacancy on the Board. He later became President of the Association and served for several years in that ca-pacity.
Marty was in the cast of “The Leading La-dies Go to Broadway”, one of the shows that past Cambridge resident, Bob Hebel, produced (pictured right). He also was a model in the 2014 Annual Charity Fashion Show.
Our condolences go out to Marty’s family.

Monthly Board of Directors’ Meeting
Wednesday, September 25th 7:00 p.m. at the Clubhouse
The office will officially reopen on Monday, September 9th. Office hours are 9-10 a.m. Monday thru Friday.
Bruno and John were busy this summer sprucing up the clubhouse and parking lot. The parking lot was resurfaced and painted. It looks really great. The inside of the club-house was painted and ceiling tiles replaced as needed. PLEASE DO NOT LEAN TABLES, CHAIRS, ETC. AGAINST THE WALLS.
Karen, Don, John, and Dee were re-modeling the office. Lots of new (free) filing cabinets were obtained by Don. Karen spent a lot of time straightening out the files. Thanks for the time you all spent on the project.
RENTING OUT YOUR PROPERTY If you are now renting out your property in Cambridge, or plan to rent it out in the near future, please be aware that the Association is planning to exercise its authority over the rental process effective immediately. The Bylaws, in Article X. ACQUISITION, Sec-tion 2 state: “The Board of Directors will in-terview prospective renters before a rental agreement with the lot/property owner becomes final.” Please instruct your prospective renter(s) to come to the office during office hours, 9-10 AM, Monday through Friday, or call (772-546-9530) to make an appointment for an-other time that is convenient to them. If you have tenants in your property who have not registered with the Association Office, please have them do so immediately. There is no charge to the renter for registering at the office. This provision has not been followed by many owners in the past. Failure to adhere to the rental process is a
violation of the By-Laws. A property owner
in violation of By-laws may be fined, taken
to court and have a lien placed on their
property for unpaid violation fines. We are
not interested in pursuing this approach, so
please, if you have renters or tenants, en-
sure their information in the Office is cur-
rent.

Sunshine Club Please call Maureen Dalton at 772-546-5757 when you know of a friend or neighbor who is hospital-ized or very ill at home so a card can be sent. Our thoughtfulness may help cheer them during their illness.

I would like to thank our Cam-bridge friends and neighbors for all the cards, food, prayers, and phone calls when Danny was in the hospital and rehab and now
that he has passed . We sure have some great cooks in the neighborhood. It was all greatly ap-preciated. Thank you all so much and God Bless you all.
BEHIND THE HITS
The Artist: The Tornados The Song: “Telstar” (1962) The Story: This landmark recording featured the very first use of a synthesizer and was one of the bestselling instrumentals of all time. The song was recorded in a makeshift studio in producer Joe Meek’s apartment; the mixing board was in the living room; the musicians per-formed in the bathroom, bedroom, and kitchen. Meek came up with the tune, but couldn’t read or write music, so he hummed the melody on demo tapes and then played it back to the band. The fact that they were able to discern any tune at all from the tone-deaf Meek’s frac-tured, off-key humming is a testament to their musical talent. Bad luck: The song became a huge #1 hit, but a French film composer sued Meek for plagiarism; Meek lost the suit, which cost him millions of dollars in lost roy-alties.
The Artist: The Ramones The Song: “Blitzkrieg Bop” (1976) The Story: Sometimes you don’t need to be on the rec-ord charts to have a hit. This early punk-rock anthem is played during almost every pro football, baseball, and basketball game. Sports fans shout out its chorus of “Hey ho, let’s go!” as a rallying cry. But most stadium specta-tors probably don’t realize that the band originally wrote the song as a celebration of gang rumbles, but with lyrics like “Shoot ‘em in the back now,” it fits right into today’s professional sports scene.
The Artist: Patsy Cline The Song: “I Fall to Pieces” (1961) The Story: Few singers conveyed emotion the way Cline did, and this anguished ode to the pain of an ended love affair sounded like she’d torn her own heart out during the recording session. Truth was, she hated the tune and didn’t want anything to do with it, but her record label was desperate for a hit and tricked her into believing she would be dropped if she didn’t record it. It became her first #1 single and stayed on the charts for an amazing 39 weeks. Oddly enough, Cline found out it was a hit after she’d literally fallen to pieces herself. Songwriter Hank Cochran recalls, “Patsy had been in a bad car wreck. It almost killed her. She was in the hospital with her head wrapped with bandages. I told her, “You got yourself a pop hit, girl.” I think she thought I was just fooling around. When she finally got good enough to look at the numbers, she just laid back and said, “Damn!.”

PERFECTLY PUMPKIN PAW-PSICLES
Summer heat might have you pausing at the mention of pumpkin, but pumpkin is a healthy and delicious treat for your pup all year long. Packed with vitamins A and C, pumpkin is a low fat snack that can help your dog feel fuller and assist with digestion. For this cool delight, mix pumpkin with yogurt for a probiotic and calcium-packed pairing that will have your dog feeling good inside and out. Use anything from a popsicle mold to an ice cube tray or paper cup to make these treats in the perfect size for your pup.
Directions: RECIPE: Mix together pumpkin, yogurt and honey 1 cup plain, pureed pumpkin Place into popsicle molds. 1-1/2 cups plain, unsweetened yogurt Freeze until solid (about 6 hours). 1 tablespoon honey If your popsicles get stuck, dip mold into warm water to loosen. Popsicle molds/ice cube trays As with any treat, have fun with these. Add in your dog’s favor- ite fruit or veggies, or even swirl with peanut butter. You can
add more or less pumpkin depending on how it affects your dog’s tummy. Make sure to choose ingredients without sugar or sugar substitutes (like xylitol) which can be dangerous for your pet.
On behalf of the 100-plus people with disabilities waiting for a life-changing Freedom Service Dog. I want to thank you and the ladies of Cambridge for your incredibly generous donation of $2,210.50 on 4/1/2019 raised through your 29th Annual Charity Fashion Show and Luncheon. Your kind gift will allow us to train more service dogs, more quickly for people in need— people like Gary, who lost his right arm and right leg when the forklift he was driving overturned, crushing him.
After his arm and leg were amputated, Gary was fitted with prosthetics. Although he worked hard to adapt to life as an amputee, Gary developed overuse symptoms in his left arm and hand, and experienced challenges with his mobility. Three years after his accident, we matched Gary with Halo, an FSD service dog who was custom trained to perform tasks that reduce the strain on Gary’s remaining arm and hand. Halo brings Gary his phone, keys, and remote, opens doors, and turns on lights. She also accompanies Gary as he travels to local hospitals to share his story and provide en-couragement to recent amputees.
Last year alone, supporters like you helped FSD provide service dogs to 22 clients in need, including veterans with post-traumatic stress, children with autism, and adults with mobility disabilities. And thanks to your generosity, these highly skilled dogs were given to our clients free of charge. Your support also allows us to provide lifetime support, including follow-up training and recertification, to more than 160 existing clients.
Thank you so much for helping clients like Gary and dogs like Halo, find happy new Lives together.
With gratitude for your compassion, Michele Ostrander, President and CEO

Fun was had by all that attended the “Tupperware Party” that was held on Fri-
day, August 23rd. All pro- ceeds benefitted Nala’s New
Life Rescue. Nala’s is dedi- cated to rescuing companion
animals who have been abused, forgotten, rejected, or
abandoned. They specialize in saving unwanted dogs who other-wise would be euthanized at kill shelters. Last year they placed over 300 dogs into foster care or forever homes. Nala’s relies primarily on donations and a dedicated volunteer workforce. Please contact them to learn more, or even better, how you can help.

An old guy walks into a bar and the bartender asks for ID. "You've got to be kidding," he said. "I'm almost 60 yearsold." The bartender apologized, but said he had to see thelicense. The guy showed his ID, then paid and told the bar-tender to keep the change. "The tip's for carding me," he said. The bartender put the change in the tip cup. "Thanks," he said. "Works every time."
