General Objective:

• To reduce the difficulties of elderly in Cham Bak Village, Chong Ampil Commune, Kagn Chhreach, Prey Veng Province.

• To be able to contribute to the community development activities in “Cambodia

Retirement Village” project. • To share a role model to all people in the society with the sense of sharing and

supporting. Specific Objective of this phase, 2:

• To raise sufficient donations, whether in cash, construction materials, or the equipments to construct the three buildings in phase 2:

1. Building for living + all equipments = US$ 18,974.75 2. Library = US$ 5,988.18 3. Kitchen, stationary and meeting room = US$ 6,038. 81

Total: = US$ 31,001.11 Background of the village: Cham Bak village is one of the remote villages in Prey Veng province which located about 30 kilometers from the northern part of Prey Veng town. It is a poor village which consists around 1169 population with 225 households and 265 families. The main job for villagers in the village is doing rice farming which is done only once a year during raining season. No rice farming could be made during dry season due not enough irrigation system within the village. At the dry season people do not have much thing to do beside their housework purposes. Thus, most of young women and men give up their studies and migrate out of their village to cities to find some additional works to support their families. Meanwhile, there are some men migrating to Thailand to work as fisherman or as construction workers. Through my observation since I was young as I was born in this village and during our field rip with my team in this village, we have notified that most elderly people are very difficult and hard to live even they have family and children or grandchildren but their children don’t have time to take care their parents or grandparents properly. For those who have no family, children or grandchildren are much more difficult to live. Some of them are over 80 years old but they still do a lot of works such as do farming, growing vegetables, cooking and looking after their grandchildren. Thus, CRV was opened on 17th June 2008 to counteract these difficulties by giving good condition of living and properly take care, as you know, is so vital in fighting off the challenges and difficulties of elderly people’s lives that are so prevalent in Cham Bak Village. With this project, we will provide them accommodation, food, basic medical care and other things as much as we can. With the real situation of living and need from the community, it came up in my mind that we should do something to improve this condition of living and to help the community. Phase 1 Phase 2 Phase 3 Phase 4 Land Construct Buildings Trees Income generating Gardens For community Materials for house For sustainability expand project. X

Our achievements to date: (Phase 1)

• Land: because of local and international private donors, we bought a piece of land for our CRV project in November 2008

• Ground breaking ceremony: we started our ground breaking on Monday 10th November 2008. In that occasion, there had participation of monks, commune chief, many people in the village, news reporter from Radio Français International (RFI) and our team. It was started successfully.

• Team built up: We have created a team of 9 members on 14th September 2008. Because

we have more tasks need to be handled and sharing ideas to improve the project as well as find more donations to support this charity project.

• Charity Box: Building creative and sustainable cash flow, we all agreed with the ideas of

making charity box which hope to use these donations when there are elderly people in the center. These donations are from citizens for elderly people in Cambodia who do not have family or the protection of a social security system.

Cambodia contributions from as little as a $2 per person, monthly. International contributions as available

• Our project in the media:

Our project was published by the Phnom Penh post on 3rd November 2008 And again it was broadcasted by RFI on 18th November 2008.

• Bank account: we have opened two different bank accounts. One is to keep the

donations to support construction and the other one is to keep the donations from our charity box.

• The donations we collected by 19th Nov 2008

We are very appreciated with all donors who have contributed their money to support us to run this big charity project. We collected the donations up to 19th November 2008 as shown below:

We collected donations US$1, 769 We spent $1,400 to buy a piece of land (20m x 40m) We spent all US$369 to buy materials for the first building (Building for living) We had ordered more materials to continue the constructions.

Cash in Cash out Total

Donations $1,769 $1,769 Land $1,400 $369 Materials $369 $0.00 Materials $400 $400

Account payable is $400.

With your contributions we will be able to complete Phase 2:

• We are going to build three buildings: Building for living, library and Kitchen. The buildings will be constructed in brick and concrete but we would try to make them look like traditional Khmer houses. Start with the building for living.

• There are 24 elderly people can live in the building for living if we have enough funds to supports everyday operation. However, the most 12 difficult elderly people in the village will be carefully selected by village chief, people in the village and our team to live in the center to in first start.

• We strongly hope that these 12 elderly people will be well-treated by providing food, basic medical care and live happily before they pass away.

• Library is opened for all people in the village, especially for youth in the village that need to do the research to gain more knowledge they can come to the library in CRV. More books will be stored in the library.

• We will grow some fruit trees in the free land near by the buildings. • 3 to 5 months to build the buildings for living • 1 to 2 months to build the kitchen • 2 to 3 months to build the library

Community and Society participation:

• Fully support from local authority and people in the village • The people in village will help do some physical works in the center as required • Participate all activities in CRV project when needed, expats, city citizens and social

networks • People in village will share their ideas to improve the process of the project • People in the village will regular maintenance property of CRV • Donations from colleagues, friends, social networks.
