30th

AnniversaryCelebration!

Ely Cathedral’s world-famous Lady Chapel will be the illustrious venue for Cambridge Voices’ Choral Extravaganza on August bank holiday Monday this year, when this dynamic and constantly-innovative choir, directed by their indefatigable founder Ian de Massini, celebrate their 30th anniversary.

Founded jointly by Ian de Massini (former choral scholar of King’s College Chapel Choir, Cambridge) and Marie-Madeleine Duruflé in Paris in 1987, this highly-acclaimed choir will perform Duruflé’s ravishing Requiem, composed for choir, organ, cello and vocal soloists, infused with medieval plainchant and French romantic harmonies, alongside De Massini’s effervescent setting of the Spiritual, Do what the Spirit says! specially commissioned for this concert.

The first half of the concert will include works by Tallis, Gibbons, Stanford and Rubbra, as well as the finale from Widor’s Toccata (Organ solo), Wylkynson’s tour-de-force, 13-voice Canon from the Eton Choirbook with the choir surrounding the whole audience and Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a theme of Thomas Tallis (Arranged for choir by De Massini (World Premiere). Advance booking (reserved seating available) for this unique event is strongly recommended.
