contaminate build up. While room cooling is provided by a central plant, the humidity in each room is controlled by the Calorex DH150s, and as the site is tropically located, this is a key component within the environmental control package.
“Humidity control is essential to stop moisture in the fresh air supply from condensing into the room and potentially damaging equipment,” comments Richard Carrington Calorex Managing Director.
“Calorex means the best in quality and reliability for industrial dehumidification with the added bonus of international coverage by experienced staff,” he adds.
Unlike traditional heating methods, dehumidifiers will control atmospheric conditions by taking potentially damaging moisture out of the air.
Drying by traditional heating involves continuously warming a stream of outside air on a constant ‘in and out’ cycle equivalent to eight times the volume of the room every hour. In a facility that requires cooling, this approach will not work.
Dehumidification, on the other hand, is much more sophisticated. It re-circulates the same air and physically removes moisture from it. As a by-product of dehumidification, heat is returned to the air-stream, including some or all of the
energy used to drive the dehumidifier. In an application where the heat is not required, the smaller power consumption of the DH150 is therefore not only a cost saving, it reduces cooling demand on the central plant compared to alternative systems.
The Calorex DH150s were chosen due to their very low power consumption and low maintenance cost. In fact, a power consumption comparison against alternative systems demonstrated that the DH150s would consume two thirds less energy, and ongoing servicing costs are limited to a function check. As an additional bonus the DH150s are simple to install and do not require duct connections to outside walls.
One of the largest data centre operators in Singapore has put its trust in specialist environmental control machines supplied by world leading Calorex, to help protect its valuable computer equipment from potentially catastrophic condensation.
The company, which oversees a network of world-class data security bases in the Asia Pacific, ordered 48 DH150 dehumidifiers for the suites within its new data centre.
To maximise system reliability, each suite is temperature and humidity controlled with a constant flow of fresh air to prevent

The prized Wurlitzer organ at the State Theatre in Sydney, Australia is hitting all the right notes again thanks to the installation of specialist Calorex dehumidifier.
The iconic organ has been located in a round enclosure below the stage at the heritage listed theatre since 1929 and can be raised and lowered during performances.
Prior to the installation of the Calorex dehumidifier, the high humidity level in the organ pit was steadily destroying the instrument. To safeguard the organ from further damage, Prime Heating Group Pty Ltd – an agent of Calorex’s distributor Australian Climate Agencies – was called to assess the problem and offer a solution.
“Humidity was around 80 to 90 in the organ pit, which also sits very close to the old Sydney Tank Stream,” explains David Powell of Prime Heating Group.
“We opted for a TTR300 unit and fitted a
and the units are fully adjustable, giving complete user control.
David adds: “Since it was installed, the system has outperformed our expectations. The goal was to achieve a gradual decrease to around 55 per cent RH, but we actually achieved 50 per cent humidity the very next day. Not gradual, but extremely effective!”

Spanish hotels say 'Hola' to new Calorex DeltaThey are already proving to be a massive hit around holiday parks and leisure centres across the UK, but now two Spanish hotels have welcomed a Calorex Delta to their premises.
The Delta system, with its new touch screen technology, provides air dehumidification and ventilation systems with dynamic heat pump heat recovery to swimming pool water and air.
And this highly advanced system is now proving to be popular at the Hotel Thalassa in Roses and the Sun Palace Albir in Alicante – both of whom saw the Delta system first hand at the Piscina & Wellness trade exhibition in Barcelona last year.
The 125m² indoor swimming pool at the Hotel Sun Palace Albir is a popular leisure facility among its customers and is heated to 32°C. The pool has an adjacent whirlpool with bubble zone and water jets,
which is heated to 35°C.
The specialist Delta 10 unit is cleverly maintaining the humidity and air heating within the pool hall, as well as heating the pool water as an almost free by-product of the recovery of heat from the dehumidification process.
Over at the Hotel Thalassa, they had no hesitation in upgrading their system to a Delta 10 after the 12m x 7m indoor pool was previously being controlled by a Calorex Delta 8, which was nearing the end of its working life.
Miguel Gutierrez of Pirolevante, Calorex’s distributor in Spain who handled the installation at Hotel Thalassa, said: “Since the installation at both hotels, the units have been working perfectly and the hotel owners at both establishments are delighted with the immediate results they are seeing from the Calorex Delta.”

Calorex assists with sea cadet trainingYoung Sea Cadets at the Derwenthaugh Boat Station are enjoying the benefits of dry buoyancy clothing and equipment for training sessions, thanks to a specialist Calorex dehumidifier.
The facility underwent a £250,000 refurbishment during the winter, which saw upgrades to the classrooms, changing
areas, showers and wash-rooms. As part of the refurbishment, a Calorex DH60AP dehumidifier was installed in the drying room, to efficiently dry the valuable equipment and keep it in tip-top condition.
Alfie Simpson MBE, Principal and Chairman of the Boat Station explains: “We run dedicated Sea Cadet training sessions at the Boat Station and it’s imperative that the buoyancy equipment is thoroughly dried between training sessions, ready to be used next time.
“Prior to the installation of the dehumidifier, we had heaters in the drying room, but felt it was time to employ a more efficient drying solution.”

For the first time, Calorex will be flying the British flag at the Exhibition of the 12th SABIC Technical Conference (STC-12) in November, with its extended range of energy efficient water-related heat pumps, chillers and dehumidifiers.
With more than 12,000 industry experts expected to attend, the STC-12 Exhibition is the largest industrial trade show in Saudi Arabia and focuses on a broad spectrum of technology developments and improvements worldwide.
“It is an honour to be exhibiting at such a prestigious show and I am looking forward to meeting our established Saudi customers and making new business connections,” explains External Sales Engineer Keith Wayman.
“Calorex designs heat pumps to provide energy efficient solutions and are specifically designed for the Middle Eastern climate. We have over 30 years of active experience in this market and are able to design and build bespoke units, individually tailored to the clients' needs,” he adds.
Keith will be at the Calorex stand 434A for the duration of the show and will have information packs on the Calorex range of products particularly suited for Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf region.

Steer clear of car corrosion with Calorex
Calorex, the UK leading manufacturer of highly efficient dehumidifiers, is revving up for their return to the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show in November, with a larger display of products than ever before.
When it comes to developing dehumidifiers, Calorex lives life in the fast lane with over 20 years’ worth of experience, meaning we are the number one go to company for any size car collection or storage facility.
Dehumidifiers can play a vital role in removing potentially harmful moistures from the atmosphere, as well as eliminating condensation and preventing corrosion. Engineered to use 75% less
energy than heating methods, all Calorex units are carbon and environmentally friendly and are simple to install and operate.
And Calorex is driving up to this year’s event with even more to show customers
who come to see our stand, which will be located at 1-266 throughout the three-day event which starts on 11 November.
“We always get great feedback from customers who come to see us at the Classic Motor Show and this year we are bringing more of our products for people to see,” said External Sales Engineer, Jeremy Neale.
“The Classic Motor Show is a great event for customers to come and see and get a closer look at how a dehumidifier could work for their collection and we are sure spectators will be impressed with our products.”
Produced in the UK and supported by a nationwide sales and after-care support network, Calorex’s dehumidifiers are designed for commercial applications and are also suitable for domestic garages.
On display at the show will be our OTW15, DH30 and DH60 models and Jeremy, along with the Calorex team, will be on-hand to answer any questions.
