Required Materials: Please bring to the first class
1. Speedball pen holder 6.5in standard; Speedball lettering nibs: #C-4, #5 and #C-6 (if you’re left-
handed, please buy LC-4)

2. bottle of Sumi ink, 2 oz.

3. Aluminum ruler, cork-backed

4. Pencil and kneaded eraser

5. Good quality round watercolor brush: synthetic is fine, sable or kolinsky is best. Make sure it
comes to a fine point. Size 5 or 6.
6. Aluminum palette (tray) for mixing colors

8. Watercolors: Tube watercolors are the best, cake watercolors ok, too. I use Winsor & Newton,
but other brands are good, too. Artist grade is best; student grade is ok. Do not buy Reeves
brand- it is poor quality. Suggested color list:
Payne’s Gray Alizarin Crimson Sap Green
Burnt Umber Cadmium Orange Prussian Blue
Burnt Sienna Cadmium Yellow Light Ultramarine Blue
Other colors that are nice:
Sepia Chromium Oxide Green Quinacridone Magenta (expensive, but worth it!
Cadmium Red Med. Cobalt Blue Indigo
Yellow Ochre Cad. Yellow Med.) Persian Rose
