The parish offered various prayer experiences such as Miraculous Medal Novena, Eucharistic Adoration and Centering Prayer. Prayer partners and Mass each week for Saint Margaret school students on both campuses continue to reflect their Catholic identity. Saint Margaret School chose Mary as their special saint for the school year and encouraged students and staff to model themselves after her. Saint Mary Magdalen Mission celebrated a contemporary music Mass each week with multiple instruments and many voices. Why Stay Catholic?Copies of this uplifting book by Michael Leach were distributed to all parishioners at Easter. Msgr. Michael Schleupner, pastor, led open conversations on the resignation of Pope Benedict and faith forums on “Why Stay Catholic,” tenets of being Catholic, and contemporary faith issues. Baptism preparations classes were held for all couples bringing their children for Baptism. Ten sponsor couples prepared 25 young couples for the Sacrament of Marriage. Newlywed couples were treated to a blessing and dinner. Saint Margaret hosted the 6th Marriage Works of Harford County conference, an ecumenical faith-based coalition dedicated to helping couples build strong, healthy marriages. 50 volunteers assisted the Liturgy Resource Committee to creatively enhance the worship space for the church and Callahan Center throughout the year. Fiscal Year 2014 Budget $3.2 million

CALLED to TEACH and LEARN As a Catholic community, Saint Margaret is committed to provide its parishioners with lifelong faith formation, based on the richness of our tradition, and to help them develop a strong and lasting relationship with God.

• Service Camp - 30 youth (17 in high school and 13 in middle school) spent a week in the summer visiting Beans & Bread Outreach Center and providing 150 lunches; serving at Our Daily Bread, helping at Harford Family House and working at First Fruits Farm.

• Parish Family Nights - 200 parishioners attended a Family Advent Night in December and enjoyed a spaghetti dinner provided by the Boy Scouts. Faith Formation coordinators spoke about “Raising Spiritual Children” and the children created Advent wreaths and other crafts. In February, many gathered for a Family Snow Day with pizza and snow day activities.

• Young parishioners prepare to lead - 3 youth attended the High School Leadership Institute; 11 youth attended Baltimore Youth Catholic Conference, and 4 youth attended Cornerstone leadership workshop for freshmen and sophomores.

• Vacation Bible Camp - More than 215 children, aged 18 months to 12 years and 83 wonderful volunteers engaged in this SonWest Round-Up Wild West camp with lessons and activities centered on Moses’ life and his Old Testament wisdom, with afunwesternflair.

• Catholic Schools Week - Archbishop Lori visited our school and participated in a Vocations Awareness Panel of 40 religious, including priests, nuns and brothers. Middle school students participated in school and NET (National Evangeli-zation Teams) ministry retreats.

• Mad City Money - Collaborated with APGFCU and New Hope Baptist Church to present a budgeting simulation for teens with focus on the importance of tithing.

CALLED to SERVICE Called by our mission to advance Catholic social teachings and value the dignity of human life, Saint Margaret parishioners put their faith into action by reaching out to those in our community and around the world.

• Good Shepherd Scholarship. Established by our Mother Teresa Human Life Commission, $1500 was awarded for a highschoolparishionertodevelopacommunityoutreachprojectreflectingoneof theseventhemesof CatholicSocialTeaching. The recipient formed a musical review called “The Sounds of Music” and performed songs and dances for a number of area nursing homes and youth centers.

• A Day to Remember -YouthfromSaintMargaretConfirmationclassjoinedfosteryouthfromSocialServicesinadayof activities as well as an inspirational speech from Justin Jones-Fosu. The goal was to mainstream foster care youth and enhance their socialization skills. Several community partners collaborated to sponsor this effort: Saint Margaret Substance AbuseMinistry,HarfordCountyDepartmentof SocialServices,HarfordCountyOfficeof DrugControl,Homecoming,Face-It, St. Stephen Substance Abuse Ministry and Black Youth In Action.

• Christmas Adopt-A-Family project served 333 families (a total of 1170 individuals) including more than $13,000 received as gift card donations.

• Harford Food Pantry - Parishioners donated 32,303 pounds of non-perishable food which helped 3,559 people.

• SMS Service Projects - Students in our school supported many service projects including: Thanksgiving and Advent family adoptions, Birthright, and St. Rose of Lima in Haiti. Saint Margaret School also joined with John Carroll School for Hoops for Heart to provide support for victims of Hurricane Sandy. The Catholic Schools week service project “Souper Bowl” brought 4040 cans of soup for our local Harford County Food Bank.

• Faith Formation Service - More than 270 Faith Formation students in grades 6 through 9 participated in service projects to benefit numerous foundations, including the Harford Family House, the Welcome One Emergency Shelter, the Cool Kids Campaign and the Beans and Bread Center of St. Vincent de Paul, as well as our parish Prison Ministry and the JAM ministry.

• March for Life - 33 parishioners journeyed to the nation’s capital to join 600,000 people, many of them high school and college students, to stand up for life.

• Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner - Saint Margaret Parish and New Hope Baptist Church, in partnership with our surrounding community, hosted this dinner. They invited all individuals or families, who, through life’s circumstances, were unable to share a meal in fellowship that acknowledged the gifts we are to each other.
