I've always loved storytelling. I've devoured lm my whole life.e margins of my school books were always lined with charactersketches and I created all sor ts of short animations. I love to see anarrative unfold and a story come to life. So naturally, I chose todo a Bachelor of Film and Television at Swinburne.
I was oen told during my time at Swinburne that my approachto storytelling was very visual, very graphic. Half of my rst 90second lm consisted of animated credits and the corestorytelling device in my rst documentary was animated text. AsI went through the course, I realised that I loved the ArtDirection, Title Design and the Story Boarding process as muchas making the lm itself.
I graduated in 2008 and have worked freelance in the lmindustry in a wide variety of projects including: music videos,educational and promotional videos and online content. Moreand more I've been drawn towards design and problem solving.I'm really excited that the Graduate Diploma of Graphic Designoers the opportunity to broaden my skill base and work in aninterdisciplinary environment.

Zoop!the story of four friends who accidentally
stumble into a parallel dimension, is the largest Art
Direction project that I have undertaken. It involved
the creation of two major sets. The rst being a 20m
long hallway consisting of 10 identical ats. The
hallway was built with a curve to create the illusion
that the hallway was innate.
After the hallway was built it was dressed with ve
alternating sets of props. This was done to create
the affect of different areas in the innite hallway
universe.

ZOOP!The second of the two sets was dubbed
the brainroom. It was a cross between
a hippys lounge room and mad
scientists lair.
As well as painting and texturing the
four ats that made up the set, the
brainroom had a working video wall and
control panel.
The two sets were shot in different
studios. It was necessary to par tially
build the brainroom set on the hallwayset and visa versa to give the affect that
the sets were connected.

After analysing Typos missionstatement I experimented with punkrock inspired logos. Typo wants to be
seen as a brand with attitude. Theselogos achieve this however I think
they are too derivative of the punkaesthetic.

Here I played with the idea of punkcollage typography and combined
it with vintage ornamental lettering.A lot of typos products use andsubvert retro or vintage clip art in a
punk way. I think there are someinteresting results however they are
perhaps too intricate and detailed tobe used practically.

I liked the hand drawnapproach, but it was failing
to achieve the attitude and
irreverence that I was going
for with the earlier designs.
After researching types of
rebellious art I experimented
by incorporating street
art into the design. I knew
I didnt want the logo to
reference street art directly, I
felt that would come across
as disingenuous. Instead
I wanted to capture the
dangerous and rebellious
spirit of street art.
This is how I came across
the idea of vandalising
the logo. By allowing the
customer to vandalise the
logo it keeps the logo fresh
and unique. It captures the
spirit of street art without
plagiarising its aesthetic.

CLOSING STATEMENT
I hope this folio has given you an insight into my interests and
approach to design. Although most of the work is lm based
I feel that the methods I use are heavily inuenced by design.
Through this course I aim to further develop and rene my skills
and continue to marry the two disciplines. I am excited about the
opportunity to deepen my understanding of design and broaden
