Hospital@ is live in the Medicine Division! Last week, Hospital@ launched successfully within the Medicine Division, following months of preparation, as well as a pilot within services at Bassetlaw Hospital.

Hospital@ is a system provided by Nervecentre which replaces evening and weekend non-urgent bleeps. By logging tasks via this new service, doctors receive these alerts in real-time via a mobile device, marking them as closed when complete. This is a substantial improvement upon previous methods of working when a health professional would have to pick up a phone to bleep a doctor, who would in turn receive a message via a pager to call a certain number, find a phone and speak to the relevant colleague to find out what needs to be done.

Hospital@ helps us to better communicate between doctors and health professionals, enhancing task management and ultimately improving the care we provide for our patients by making the best use of technology.

In the first three days of implementation, over 370 tasks were completed using the new system, with few issues reported and lots of colleague engagement with this new way of working. Support will continue throughout the next few weeks, via the Trust’s Digital Team. Training will also continue on wards and services, with over 60% of staff compliant (as of Friday 12 July). If you would like further information about the system, please email [email protected].

Dr Mike Whiteside, Acute Physician and Chief Clinical Information Officer, said: “I want to thank the entire Medicine Division for their support, engagement and willingness to adopt Hospital@ within services throughout the Trust. Ensuring we make best use of technology to improve patient care is incredibly important and will define our success as a Trust in the years to come.”

Echoing this appreciation, Richard Parker OBE, Chief Executive, said: “I want to say a huge ‘thank you’ to our Medicine Division, following the launch of Hospital@. It’s important that we get behind new technology and changes such as this. Thank you to everyone involved in making this launch a success.”

Hospital@ to launch in Surgery and OrthopaedicsHospital@, a system provided by Nervecentre which replaces evening and weekend non-urgent bleeps, will go live in Surgery and Orthopaedics today at 5pm (16 July). This is a significant change and improvement in the way we work, and it’s incredibly important that all of our clinicians engage with this system launch in order to make it a success. This system has already been successful launched within the Medicine Division, as well as at Bassetlaw Hospital, and colleagues within our IT Programmes and Development and Digital teams are on-hand to support should any issues arise.

Please note, the launch of Hospital@ at Montagu Hospital has been delayed until 20 August in order to ensure the successful implementation of the system within Medicine, Surgery and Orthopaedics.

Where can I find out more? - All information relating to Hospital@, as well as a short video, can be found on here. alternatively, search The Hive's A-Z under ‘H’ or ‘D’ for Digital Transformation.

Who should I contact? - If you would like further information about the system, please email [email protected]. As Team DBTH, we are on a journey towards Digital Transformation. Find out what this programme means here.

The microbiology department can only accept urine samples if they are in the correct containers.

If samples are sent to the department in universal containers they are rejected which can cause delays for patients.

The Trust has an intellectual property policy which covers advancements in innovations.

Our staff have lots of brilliant ideas about how we can better improve practice and some of these ideas may fall into the research domain, the Qi domain and others may be classed as innovations.

Any innovation arising from expertise during a staff member's employment usually means the Intellec-tual Property sits with the Trust as the employer.

Congratulations Rhys!Congratulations to Rhys Maycock, Medical Technical Officer, who has successfully completed his four year apprenticeship in Medical Technical Services (MTS). Rhys is the 5th apprentice they have supported through the scheme.

Rhys received his certifi-cate from Dr Kirsty Edmondson-Jones, Direc-tor of Estates and Facilities with the stand that was used at the recent successful NHS Careers day event held at The Dome. Donation on ATC

ATC at bassetlaw have received a generous donation from David Booker, the owner of DAN Alarms who brought in gifts for the team to hold a raffle and raise money for the ward.

The ward raised £350 with David specifically requesting that it go towards purchasing some nebulisers for ATC. David is asthmatic and the cause is close to his heart. He bought six nebulisers after asking staff what they needed for the ward and the rest of the proceeds went towards the family room essentials on ATC.

Boys to receive HPV vaccine from September The HPV vaccination programme, introduced in 2008 for girls, is being rolled out to boys and is predicted to prevent 29,000 cancers in UK men in the next 40 years. Boys aged 12 to 13 in Year 8 will be offered the vaccine in secondary schools from the start of the next school term. 99.7% of cervical cancers are caused by infection with a high-risk type of HPV.

This extension of the HPV vaccination programme will help prevent more cases of HPV-related cancers, such as head and neck cancers and anal and genital cancers. Click here for more info.

NewsWard 16 improving quality with Sodexo

The Service Department has moved from their temporary location within Silks to the General Office building in Gate 4 at DRI. General Office will be decommissioned over the next 6-8 weeks so keep an eye out for further updates as to where you can get help with parking services, ID badges and fobs.

Ward 16 staff have been working jointly with Sodexo on a Qi project to reduce stock errors on the ward. The Therapy staff had initially identified that errors on feeds and oral trials were high. A team of Therapists and Sodexo staff worked jointly with the Qi team to look at this issue. During May, the team adjusted the ordering process and double checks were introduced with the help of Sodexo staff.

Stock errors have significantly reduced from 10 to only 3 a week. A great example of Qi working jointly with one of our external providers.

Donation to Ward 16£788.31 was donated to the stroke unit at DRI in memory of Gail Bingham who was recently cared for on Ward 16.

Pictured is Mr Bingham and his sons who visited the ward to present staff with the cheque and pass on their gratitude for the care she received from all the team.

Chatsfield Donation Armthorpe Pit Club has raised a total of £1,200 to help support the treatment of patients suffering with cancer, which is being split equally between the Chatsfield suite at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and the Firefly Cancer Awareness and Support Charity. The money was raised by raffle draws and the auc-tion of a ‘Dons RLFC’ rugby ball at a charity event night at the club. We would like to say a special thank you to Pete Cresswell (pictured below) for organising the event and his continued support and contribution to the cause.

On 27 June Project ECHO was officially launched in Doncaster and Bassetlaw. Project ECHO is an interactive training package designed to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and change practice. It uses a live video network to host mentoring sessions and present case studies.

Increase of car parking permit cost from 1 July From Thursday 1 July, the cost of parking permits has risen by a below inflationary rate of 2%.

If you are a permit holder, you will not have to do anything and costs will be automatically deducted from your pay. However, there may be a delay in the change via payroll, due to the increased workload of SBS in processing the pay deal. If there is a delay the increase will be backdated to 1 July. For further information on parking permits and how to apply for one, head to: https://extranet.dbth.nhs.uk/parking-permit/ Please note: We are currently investing in our parking services, increasing security presence, installing more CCTV cameras and negotiating with South Yorkshire to base a number of police officers on-site at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

Security challenges at Doncaster Royal InfirmaryOver the past number of weeks, we have seen an increase in reported car break-ins, vandalism and other unsociable behaviours on the grounds of Doncaster Royal Infirmary. The Trust has entered in a partnership with security firm, Saba UK who will oversee site security.

As part of this capital investment is included for the replacement of our current car parking and CCTV equipment and the development of a brand new security control room which will be linked to a 24/7 control centre to monitor activity on site. We are also in discussions with South Yorkshire Police to base two police officers on-site at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, in order to bolster our security presence. Colleagues within Estates and Facilities, alongside Saba, are also reviewing patrol routes, with a view to ensure we’re covering as much of our site as possible. We also need your help in ensuring we remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious activity to our security team by calling 01302 644784 or in an emergency call 2222 from a Trust phone without delay.

Stationery available to a good homeFollowing the transfer of our Hospital Sterilisation and Decontamination Unit (HSDU), we have discovered a number of arch levers, ring binders and box files which are available to a good home.
