Call for papers – Really Good Stuff May 2003 Really Good Stuff: new ideas in medical education November and May issues each year As a result of the growing popularity of Really Good Stuff: new ideas in medical education, we will now be running this lively and topical section twice a year. It will continue to appear in the November issue as in previous years, and starting in 2003, an additional selection of short reports will be published in the May issue. Authors who wish us to consider their papers for November should continue to send manuscripts before 1 May each year. Those who would like to submit to the May section, to appear in May 2003, should send their papers to the Editorial Office by 1 November. The format of the new May section will be, in every respect, identical to that of the November section. An international panel of reviewers, under the editorial direction of M Brownell Anderson of Washington DC, will review all the submissions and select those to be published. Each structured report should be no longer than 500 words and must be organised into four sections: the context and setting; why the idea or change was necessary; what was done and evaluation of the results or impact. No tables, figures or references should be included. It is worth remembering that the reviewers will be using four criteria when judging the papers: Soundness of educational approach described Originality of approach Clarity of writing Significance of report as an educational innovation. Common reasons for papers’ not being published include lack of originality, ideas that are still at development stage and have not been tested in practice and descriptions of ideas where no evaluation has been carried out. Another important point to remember is that Medical Education is read by professionals in over 70 countries world-wide and you should therefore make sure that your work is of relevance to an international readership. Guidelines for authors are available from the Medical Education journal office (+ 44 1752 764 412 or [email protected]) and can be downloaded from the journal website (www.mededuc.com).
