(1) General Software Review. In this activity you will be reviewing software that you would find useful in your roll as a teacher. Note, this is a review of software, not websites. Websites can be used only if they have a high level of interactivity and animation such as those at ExploreLearning.com. Although we have software on our local servers, much of it is antiquated, and students are best served by downloading freeware and shareware.

EVE2 is a very powerful tool that allows teachers to determine if students have plagiarized material from the web. EVE2 accepts essays in many different formats and returns links to web pages from which a student may have plagiarized. EVE2 is a great way to reduce stress on the teacher and make it easier to catch cheaters.

This program is a great resource for teachers when they have higher level students that finish an assignment before the rest of the class. This program quickly and easily creates professional looking word search puzzles. It’s a great way to keep the overachieving kids interested and not to let them get bored.

(2) Basic Information: Allan Borushek, a health educator and clinical dietitian, was focused on the key to weight management, the calorie. He began to collect data about popular foods and published the first Calorie, Fat, & Carb Counter in Australia in 1973. In 1988, CalorieKing's Calorie, Fat & Carbohydrate Counter (CFCC) was published in the United States. In 1996, with the launch of CalorieKing.com, CalorieKing expanded to the Internet. Cost:

  (7) Summary: Obesity is one of American fastest growing health concerns. Obesity in children and adolescents is a serious issue with many health and social consequences that often continue into adulthood. Implementing prevention programs and getting a better understanding of treatment for youngsters is important to controlling the obesity epidemic. Consequently a software program that helps children understand when calorie consumption and excess calorie expenditure that the excess calorie will be stored as fat is a valuable tool.
