Back in 2009, six Republicans voted with all of the Democrats in the Capitol to sock it

to Californians with the largest tax increase in state history — Senators Roy Ashburn, Dave Cogdill and Abel Maldonado, and Assembly-members Anthony Adams, Mike Villines, and Roger Niello — all of whom besides Niello had violated a written pledge against raising taxes (and Niello ran on some pretty strong anti-tax rhetoric). Three of these scoundrels are actu-ally trying to run for public office again this year. Anthony Adams is running for Congress as a “No Party Preference” candidate in CD 8, an open “safe GOP” seat in the high desert of Southern California. Abel Maldonado is run-ning for Congress in the coastal 24th District. Finally, Roy Ashburn is running for a seat on the Kern County Board of Supervisors, a job

he held eons ago be-fore being elected to the legislature.

All three of these ex-politicians seek-

T his year’s Presidential and U.S. Senate Endorsing convention is looking to be a fun-filled weekend, as the list of confirmed speakers continues to grow.

Judge James Rogan, former Congressman and Impeach-ment Manager in the House of Representatives, kicks off the weekend as the keynote speaker for the Friday night banquet.

The Friday banquet will also feature a debate between former State Senator Ray Haynes and Republican National Committeeman Shawn Steel on the National Popular Vote Compact.

On Saturday, the all-star line up continues as Star Parker keynotes the Saturday luncheon. Billed as the “Honoring Conservative Women in Leadership” luncheon, the event will also feature Board of Equalization Member Michelle Steel, Radio Talk Show Host Inga Barks, and Dr. Karen Kinney, founder and director of the San Fernando Valley Tea Party.

Several nationally recongnized conservative leaders will be speaking at the Saturday night banquet pending

confirmations still. On Sunday, Craig Huey of Election Forum will speak at

ing election this year were rewarded for their willingness to raise taxes with plum political appointments. Maldonado, of course, was appointed to be the state’s Lt. Governor, though he was trounced in his bid for election to a full term in that office. Anthony Adams was given a lucrative ap-pointment to the State Parole Board. Roy Ashburn sits today on the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board. All of these ap-pointments came with six figures salaries I might add.

Abel MaldonadoOn his official campaign website Mal-

donado has a section called “Keep Taxes Down” — what a joke. Maldonado says that he’ll work on keep the tax burden down on working people. Like the working people you stiffed with a massive sales tax increase for two years after campaigning for office having signed a pledge not to do just that. He even goes so far to say, on his campaigned website, that he “earned high ratings for his opposition to higher gas, car, income, internet and payroll taxes.” Such gall this man as he would cast the deciding for massive income and sales and car taxes, and then put so much untrue rhetoric on his website.

Anthony AdamsWhile Anthony Adams has departed

the Republican Party, his says on his website, “I have a traditional viewpoint that I believe the citizens of the 8th Con-gressional District share, which is that the best government is a limited government. I believe that before the government asks for a dollar from taxpayers, that govern-ment must make sure that this dollar is not being wasted.”

What a bunch of baloney. When Adams’ voted for higher taxes, he proudly boasted doing so on talk radio. Now he’s trying to convince unsuspecting voters who may not know his role in raising their taxes that he’s for limited government.

Roy AshburnFinally, with regards to his bid for

County Supervisor, Roy Ashburn postured with the Ridgecrest Daily Independent, implying that he is a fiscal conservative, “I also want use my experience and under-standing of the state legislative processes to help make our county less vulnerable to the State’s habitual attempts to impose greater mandates and take more of our money.“ and he also said, that he “ha[s] a plan for trimming the fat and making our local government lean so that more dollars are passed to the people.”

Pretty funny since Ashburn played such a pivotal role in a massive grab into taxpayer wallets to the voracious appetite of state government.

In the meantime Ashburn’s website is literally unintelligible.

It is critical that those opinion leaders from the areas where these pledge-breakers are running for office spread the word

about them, and what they did. None of them should ever be elected to an office of public trust again. Back in December of 2010 Jon Coupal, President of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, wrote of the betrayal of these very politicians — and warned voters to beware… It is as relevant today as it was when it first appeared on this website.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE does a year make! Here we are in the midst of holding our Presidential Endorsing Convention. I can tell you for sure that all of you who are going to be in attendance will not be disap-pointed by the events that will take place during our three day venue. It’s HAPPY TIMES AGAIN!

We have been w o rk i n g d i l i -gently to provide every delegate and guest with great accommo-dations and meals, fine entertainment, educational workshops, excellent and well known speakers to stimulate your political brain power. And it is very affordable.

We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to the sunny city of El Segundo in Southern California, just one mile from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The Hacienda Hotel is just adorable; very appealing and relaxing with amazing water falls. Does that already make you want to jump in your car or take a flight to be there?

We want to make this Convention attrac-

tive, fun and successful, but it can not be done without you.

By now the California Republican As-sembly local Endorsement Conventions/Special Meetings have taken place, a lot of work and long hours are involved in the process. Thank you so much to the

dedicated and committed Vice Presidents, Senate District Directors and other CRA officers who were involved in the process of vetting all Republican Candidates who were seeking our coveted endorsement.

“It is hard to imagine my campaigns being anywhere near as successful as they were without the dedication of the CRA’s members, I urge you to join CRA today.” – Ronald Reagan. We know that WE are dedicated

“VOLUNTEERS.” We are driven by the passion and love we have for our country.

We knew that Rush Limbaugh was right,

when almost four years ago he said that he wanted Obama’s agenda to fail. We all did, and still do. We want President Obama’s socialist and intrusive agenda to fail, because we love our country and have we seen where his radical demands and proposals are leading our nation. His blatant attacks on and disrespect for the U.S. Supreme Court; his stupid remarks that women care more and want easier access to free contraceptics than to have a

good sound economy. Really? Well, this coming convention is the

beginning to energize our members and guests to show the President, his cabi-net and the whiners and cry babies of the liberal media that we are right – that we’ll be working very hard to have a united country again after January 21, 2013.

See you all the weekend of April 20-22, 2012!

President’s Greetings!

Why GOP “Young Guns” Program Is DeceptiveBy Floyd and Mary Beth Brown

“YOUNG GUNS” IS a program of the National Republican Congressional Cam-paign (NRCC) which bills itself as com-mitted to building the “next generation of conservative leaders.” Those words are from the home page of the project’s website http://www.gopyoungguns.com.

The website is misleading. While Young Guns solicits donations from Tea Party and conservative donors, the GOP house lead-ers who run the program actually use it to elect GOP moderates over conservatives.

The corruption doesn’t end there. Insid-ers who work for the NRCC actually use the money generated by the program to promote friends and business associates, “encouraging” candidates to hire certain consultants before they will get support.

The campaign manager of one conserva-tive candidate used the word “extortion” to explain how the sordid system works. Here is a real world example.

In what political reporter John Gizzi of Human Events wrote was, “the nastiest primary of the year so far,” Representative Adam Kinzinger defeated 20 year veteran Congressman Don Manzullo. The Man-zullo vs. Kinzinger race gives us a glimpse of how the program works. Manzullo is a strong conservative with a lifetime Ameri-

can Conservative Union (ACU) rating of 96 compared to the more moderate Kinzinger who scores a miserable 72 out of 100 from the ACU.

When two Mem-bers face off against each other, it is un-usual for the GOP leadership to choose sides. But in this case the Young Guns Ac-tion Fund unleashed a $50,000 advertising blitz, which decep-tively called the more moderate Kinzinger, “an important part of the next generation of conservative leaders” and “a conserva-tive rock in the fight against runaway government spending.” When confronted, Cantor told Manzullo it was because he had “a major investment” in Kinzinger.

Illinois conservatives were furious about what they saw as a betrayal by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, the leader of the Young Guns Action Fund. Jameson Campaigne a leader of conservatives in the Land of Lincoln went so far as emailing his fellow members of the ACU board to ask that Eric Cantor not be invited to the ACU’s Conservative Political Action Conference.

Campaigne wrote, “I hope I can have your promise — in advance — to make sure Eric Cantor is not allowed to speak in any capacity at CPAC next year. And

if he whines about not being there, he is told this blackball is his punishment for taking out a 96% ACU-rated conserva-tive in favor of one of his owned-and-operated Members who is not a conser-vative. He needs to get the message loud and clear – which he won’t until it causes

him pain and embarrassment — that he does not get away with advancing his own career by messing with ‘our people’.”

Campaigne added later, “Cantor and his Beltway pals are guilty of deceptive advertising — using the “conservative brand” to advance their cronies instead of the conservative movement.”

Kinzinger verses Manzullo isn’t an iso-lated example of the Young Guns Money being spent to help more moderate Re-publicans. And even more insidious is the way the money is spent to help prop up the consulting businesses of selected

Republican insiders. The manager of a congressional candi-

date confidentially shared his story with us. He recently received a call, which he considered threatening, from a staff mem-ber at the NRCC. The NRCC staff member told him, “we don’t like the team of people you have on the campaign; they are too conservative. You won’t get any support from the Young Guns program unless you fire your current consultants and hire the consultants we have recommended.” This manager felt he was being “extorted” by this NRCC staffer.

With a series of important GOP House primaries ahead, conservatives are closely watching to see if GOP leaders and NRCC staff will meddle in favor of more moderate voices using money raised from conserva-tives. The races to watch are in Louisiana where Rep. Charles Boustany Jr. with an ACU Rating of 83 squares off with Rep. Jeff Landry with an ACU Rating of 96; and in Florida where Rep. John Mica, ACU Rating 83 is running against Rep. Sandy Adams ACU rating of 88. Conservatives must hold the NRCC leadership and staff accountable. CRA Vice President, Overseeing San Diego County.

As Vice President, I will continue to: 1. Focus on increasing CRA membership statewide,

2. Recruit and help republicans get elected to partisan and nonpartisan of-fices,

3. Continue to fight to keep the Repub-lican Party platform conservative,

4. Work to make the CRA a leader in Communication and Technology.

I am currently an elected member and Vice President of the board of the Orange Unified School District, a large school dis-trict serving 30,000 students. As a school board member, I have been vocal against raising taxes or fees in our community.

I am a life long republican and a con-servative republican activist and church volunteer. As the unit President of the Orange-Villa Park Republican Assembly for over five years, I know what it takes to help other units succeed I have also served as External VP of the Orange County YRs, a voting Delegate of the CRP, a Central Committee Alternate, and have assisted the local Federation of Republi-can Women with their fundraisers.

Additionally, I have walked countless precincts and have made thousands of calls on behalf of republican candidates. Being passionate about spreading con-servative principles, I worked for the Leadership Institute’s Campus Field Rep program and succeed to start conserva-tive groups on college campuses in the State of Nevada.

I respectfully ask for the opportunity to serve you again on the State CRA Board as Vice President. Thank you and God Bless.

IT’S TIME to be very honest about why one political party – and one political party only – is dead-set against requiring voters to properly identify themselves at the poll-ing place before casting their ballots.

That party is the Democratic Party. And the reason it opposes voter ID is because it makes voter fraud easier when iden-tification is not required.

This should be self-evident to just about everyone – and actually is. Be-cause every pub-lic opinion poll on the subject shows 70 to 80 percent of Americans in favor of voter ID laws.

Republican voters favor it. Democratic voters favor it. Whites favor it. Blacks favor it. Hispanics favor it. Men favor it. Women favor it.

Yet, the Democratic Party establishment and big majorities of Democratic members of Congress hate it.

The rationale for opposing this simple, common-sense procedure for ensuring that only registered voters actually vote is that it somehow would discourage minorities from participating in the electoral system.

However, that reasoning is repudiated even by majorities of blacks and Hispanics, who apparently don’t see any threat to their voting rights by a requirement to show a photo ID, as many states already require.

So what the Democratic Party machine prefers is chaos at the polls, allowing virtu-ally anyone to vote – citizen, non-citizen,

legal resident, illegal resident, registered voters, non-registered voters, real voters, impostors.

When Project Veritas’ citizen journal-ist James O’Keefe went to the polls in the District of Columbia last week with a concealed video camera and asked if the voting official had a ballot for Eric Holder, meaning the attorney general of the United States, he not only got confirmation that Holder was registered, he was offered his ballot.

When O’Keefe reminded the polling official that he did not have identification with him, he was told he didn’t need it.

That’s the open invitation to voter fraud that exists in our nation’s capital, a city under the leadership of people way out of touch with American mainstream values of honesty, integrity, fairness and propriety.

If Barack Obama and Eric Holder and Democrats in Congress had their way, every state and city in America would be run like Washington. Now that should be a scary thought to you.

America is way past the days of Jim Crow, much to the chagrin of the Democratic Party, which, I remind you, instituted and maintained those racial discrimination and intimidation policies in the South for far too long.

As we’ve seen in recent decades, there is far less chance that blacks will be turned away from polls because of their race than whites. When the New Black Panthers stationed armed thugs in front of polling places in Philadelphia to intimidate white voters, Eric Holder refused to prosecute the perpetrators. So clearly, Obama and Holder and the Democrats don’t have a problem with racial discrimination at the polls, as long as they perceive that racial discrimination as beneficial to their own empowerment.

It’s time to think about these things care-fully, because they are the kinds of changes

that can transform America from the old-est constitutional republic in the world to a Third World-style banana republic. And that’s just what a second term Barack Obama in the White House will mean.

Obama and the Democratic Party estab-lishment have demonstrated their utter contempt for the Constitution in many ways – not the least of those is through their stonewalling over the legitimate ID of Obama himself. They actively seek the disempowerment of anyone who disagrees with their agenda. They will use any means necessary to impose their radical agenda on the rest of us. “Any means” includes fraud, deceit, intimidation – maybe worse.

Remember what I am telling you the next time you see a politician or a member of the media protesting voter ID laws.

You and I are asked to present photo IDs many times throughout our lives. It’s hardly an intrusive demand to ensure against the growing problem of identity theft and other forms of fraud.

It’s the least we should demand from a process so critical to the integrity of American politics. Joseph Farah is founder, editor and CEO of WND and a nationally syndicated columnist with Creators Syndicate. www.wnd.com

LET’S STIPULATE: ACTIVISTS on the left are free to exercise their rights of speech and assembly to boycott businesses whose politics they oppose. Conversely, activists on the right are free to exercise the power of their pocketbooks and refrain from sup-porting businesses that shun their values.

So, what are you waiting for, conserva-tives? There are coordinated shakedowns taking place right now that involve some of America’s most prominent companies who’ve chosen to surrender to progres-sive bullying and race-card opportunism. Silence is complicity.

On Tuesday, McDonald’s told liberal magazine Mother Jones that the company had “decided to cut ties with ALEC, the corporate-backed group that drafts pro-free-market legislation for state lawmakers around the country.” The fast-food con-glomerate follows in the feckless footsteps of Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Intuit (maker of Quick and Quicken Books software) and Kraft Foods -- which have all withdrawn support for ALEC after drum-banging from Color of Change.

That’s the minority community activist outfit founded by former Obama green jobs czar and radical Occupy Wall Street supporter Van Jones. Since leaving the White House, Jones has been occupied with railing against capitalism while cash-ing in on book sales from corporate media appearances.

But I digress. For years, progressives have sought to

take down the American Legislative Ex-change Council (ALEC), a four-decade-old association of state legislators who believe in “the Jeffersonian principles of free mar-kets, limited government, federalism, and individual liberty.” ALEC’s veteran policy experts have suc-cessfully teamed with public of-ficials and the private sector on crafting model state bills cover-ing everything from education reform and health care to pensions, public safety and civil justice.

Among the group’s greatest heresies in the eyes of the left: support for voter ID laws to protect election integrity, immi-gration enforcement measures and self-defense legislation to strengthen Second Amendment rights.

The idea that private businesses and public servants could work together volun-tarily on public policy is too much for Big Labor and Big Government racketeers. Last fall, leftists from People for the American Way, the Center for Media and Democracy, the Arizona AFL-CIO, AFSCME, the Ameri-can Federation of Teachers, the Arizona Education Association and Progress Now (a militant group backed by billionaire

George Soros) ambushed an ALEC meet-ing in Arizona to intimidate legislators and corporate backers. In February, the Occupy movement turned from demon-izing Wall Street bankers to attacking the policy wonks of ALEC as wretched symbols of “profit and greed.”

And now ALEC’s race-hustling enemies

are piggybacking on the Trayvon Martin shooting in Florida. They’re shamelessly blaming ALEC for the tragedy by claiming the group wrote the state’s “Stand Your Ground” self-defense law. But as ALEC points out:

“(The) law was the basis for the Ameri-can Legislative Exchange Council’s model legislation, not the other way around. Moreover, it is unclear whether that law could apply to this case at all. “Stand Your Ground” or the “Castle Doctrine” is designed to protect people who defend themselves from imminent death and great bodily harm. ... In the end, we will always respect people who disagree with us in matters of policy, but it is simply wrong to try to score political points by taking advantage of a great tragedy like Trayvon

Martin’s death.”Color of Change is ratcheting up pres-

sure on ATT, one of ALEC’s corporate board members, to abandon the group or be forever branded as racists with blood on their hands. These campaigns are of a piece with the pressure campaigns against advertisers of conservative talk radio giant Rush Limbaugh. (Not coincidentally, many of the same groups are involved in both.) The Hush Rush mob has succeeded in fina-gling anti-free speech declarations from the likes of Arby’s restaurant chain and Wal-greens drugstores -- two companies that have never been sponsors of Limbaugh’s show, but which announced last week that they won’t advertise in his time slot on local station ad buys. Note: These are bit cancellations of an ad buy; there’s no loss of money. It’s pure, progressive gesture politics, astro-turfed by Soros-funded groups, to create the fake appearance of an anti-Rush advertising stampede -- and ultimately, to chill conservative dissent.

McDonald’s, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Intuit, Kraft, Arby’s and Walgreens have shown their true colors: appeasement yellow. It’s time for conservatives to stand their ground and stop showing these corporate cowards their money. I joined the California Republican As-sembly in 1979 as a member of the Glen-dale Verdugo Republican Assembly, later serving as President of that unit. I had the privilege to later serve as President of the

Los Angeles County Coordinating Repub-lican Assembly. After moving to the Santa Clarita Valley I was a founding member of the Santa Clarita Republican Assembly serving two terms as President of that unit. Currently I proudly serve as a State Senate District Director.

I hold true to the beliefs embodied by the CRA. They serve as a compass point-ing me in the right direction and keeping me true to the conservative principles we all hold dear. My goals as an officer of the CRA are to increase our membership, start new units and insure that candidates who share our values are elected to public office.

In addition to serving as a County Chair I have been a member of the Arizona and California State Republican Party, a mem-ber of the State Party Executive Commit-tee and locally serve as Chair of the 38th Assembly District Republican Central Committee.

I have had the honor and privilege of working for two State Assembly Republi-can Leaders, Pat Nolan and Scott Baugh, Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich, State Senator Tony Strickland

and U.S. Congressman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon.

As a party volunteer I have walked pre-cincts, made phone calls and turned out voters. I have coordinated bus trips bring-ing hundreds of volunteers to help elect Republican office holders in California, Nevada and Arizona.

I humbly ask for your vote for Vice Presi-dent of the State CRA.

G. Rick Marshall, I’ve had the privi-

lege to be appointed one of the Vice-Pres-idents of CRA finish-ing out the term of

former Vice-President Pete Weber. Thank you Celeste and the Board of Directors for your confidence in me.

While I’ve only served for about 3 months, it seems longer;) In that time, with the help of many hardworking Los Angeles County CRA members, we have:1. Held a unit President’s breakfast to get to

know each other better and discuss how

IN ADDITION TO their regular monthly meetings, CRA units up and down the state have been holding endorsing convention to endorse candidate for offices. A partial listing of endorsements can be found below. Additional endorsements will be posted on the CRA website www.californiarepublicanassembly.com

Murrieta-Temecula March’s meeting featured Brad Dacus, founder and President of

the Pacific Justice Institute. He discussed the importance of getting behind the Class Act initiative to repeal SB 48 – the state law requiring public schools to teach homosexual history. He also brought petitions and encourged MTRA members to circulate them in order that the Class Act could qualify for the ballot.

Brad Dacus served as Legislative Assistant to U.S. Senator Phil Gramm, and went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas, School of Law. For the next five years, Mr. Dacus coordinated religious freedom and parental rights cases throughout the Western states. In 1997, Mr. Dacus founded Pacific Justice Institute, where he serves as President and continues to defend religious liberties and parental rights. The Pacific Justice Institute has a network of approximately a thousand volunteer affiliate attorneys and handles more cases on the West Coast than any other organization of its kind.

SacramentoSRA recently participated in a “MEET THE CANDIDATES” event as part of their

regular monthly meeting. It was a joint event bringing together Republican organization in the Sacramento area, including Republicans of River City, Sacramento Republican Assembly, United Republicans for America, Cosumnes Republican Assembly, American River Republican Women Federated and Sacramento Republican Women Federated.

Held at the Arden Hills Resort Club & Spa the event featured U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Emken as well as other elected representatives and candidates from the greater

Sacramento region, grassroots activists, and local business leaders.

Southern Solano Republican AssemblyScott Brown, Solano County Grassroots Coordinator for the Rick San-

torum Campaign was the scheduled speaker for the April meeting. The March meeting featured updates from the California Republican Party convention.

Tustin AreaAssemblyman Don Wagner was the recent guest speaker. He

discussed issues from the perspective of someone on the front lines of the battle to try to restore some sanity and responsibility to our state government.

Elected in the 70th Assembly District in 2010, Don Wagner is running for reelection in the redrawn and renumbered 68th Assem-

bly District, which now includes the entire Tustin Area. (Previously, the City of Tustin was in the 70th District while North Tustin was in the 71st District).

Voter RegistrationBy Sam Cannon and Steve Sarkis

WE ARE EXCITED TO REVEAL we have been in contact with many folks across California’s 58 coun-ties about the goals and objectives we are pursuing with voter registration! President Celeste has always been a strong advocate for bolstering registration of Republicans across this state. We are aggressively pursuing this issue,

The CRA voter registration program will be rolled out at the upcoming CRA Convention April 20-22 in El Segundo. We will introduce a monthly regis-tration reporting from all CRA Units in California using the current CRP Bounty form in which data will be entered into an Excel spreadsheet with the final monthly report being forwarded to the CRA President. It is essential that CRA register new vot-ers and encourage people of other parties whom are like minded conservatives and share our values to become a Republican so we can turn back the socialist trend in our state and country.

We plan to target the many Decline to State and Independents who are fed up with the tired policies put forward by Democrats across California. Work-ing in concert with the California Republican Party, we are confident we can bump voter registration to help us carry on our fight for the conservative principles we all hold near and dear.

Look for a follow-up report after our convention.

Bolstering Public Trust In GovernmentMEMBERS OF THE House and Senate have worked for some time to develop legislation banning insider trading for members of Congress. President Obama recently urged Congress to pass such leg-islation. Today, he signs into law a bill that demonstrates the House’s commitment to government accountability by going beyond the call to action.

Before the president called on Congress to pass insider trading laws in his State of the Union address, questions were raised about how existing laws applied to mem-bers of Congress and their senior aides.

As Chairman of the Committee on House Administration, I carefully reviewed cur-rent law and concluded that the prohibi-tion on insider trading and the criminal penalties associated were already appli-cable – and not just to Members and staff of the legislative branch.

Just to be clear. No one within the House of Representatives, or the Senate, or the ex-ecutive branch, or even the judicial branch – regardless of responsibility, title or salary – should be under the false impression that

they are somehow exempt from these laws. They are not.

Though we create and uphold the laws of the land, we are not above them.

N o n e t h e -less, as their elected repre-sentatives, we owe our con-stituents the assurance that the decisions we make here in the People’s House are in fact for the people – not ourselves. And this assurance must be government-wide.

Passage of S. 2038, known as the STOCK Act, is one step toward providing that assurance. With the help of the Commit-tee on House Administration, the House strengthened the bill by prohibiting Members, officials and employees from every branch of government from using non-public, privileged information for personal gain and creating a disclosure mechanism for finding out when they do. Of course we didn’t stop there.

We expanded the requirements to report financial transactions, extended restric-tions on government officials negotiating for future employment, and ended prefer-

ential treatment of government officials by prohibiting them from accepting exclusive, sweetheart deals on IPOs. Our additions also include denying pensions for Mem-bers convicted of crimes and eliminating bonuses for senior executives at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Finally, the House addressed concerns about the practice of communicating with government officials to gain information about future actions that can be used to inform financial investors. Regulating that practice could stifle citizens’ First Amend-ment right to communicate with their elected representatives, so we directed

the Government Accountability Office to analyze its scope and impact to help Con-gress determine what further action might be called for. This study is a prudent step that should come before and not after new reporting requirements.

Americans not only need to know that all of their government officials are subject to insider trading laws, but they need proof we are adhering to them. This legislation provides taxpayers with the assurances and tools necessary to hold government officials accountable for their actions.

As civil servants, we must be held to a higher level of scrutiny that instills public confidence in our ability to put the needs of our constituents before our own personal financial gain.

Today’s signing of the STOCK Act is a victory for government accountability. Rep. Lungren is the chairman of the Committee on House Administration. He represents the 3rd Congressional District, which includes parts of Sacramento and Solano County, as well Alpine, Amador, and Calaveras Counties.

A FEW WEEKS AGO I had the great privi-lege of hosting the Honorable Christopher Monckton, one of the world’s leading man-made climate change skeptics, at a legislative hearing at the state Capitol as well as at community events in Sacramento and Bakersfield. Monckton is a former advisor to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and was among the first to advise her about the issue of global warming caused by fossil-fuel related emissions. While Thatcher was originally outspoken in warning of the dangers of global warm-ing, she eventually saw the flaws in climate change research and orthodoxy and came to question its main scientific assumptions due in part to Monckton’s influence.

I brought Monckton to California in hopes that his visit would foster a spirited discussion on the science behind Califor-nia’s global warming law, AB 32, and the resulting cap-and-trade auctions slated to go into effect soon. Monckton has coun-seled numerous countries and has testified four times before the U.S. Congress, so I expected his unique comparative perspec-tive on the science and economics behind climate change policy to enlighten both California legislators and citizens alike.

The community presence in Bakers-

field was phenomenal. Almost 200 small business owners, community leaders, teachers, students and those who work in agriculture, oil and natural gas production came to the Student Union at Cal State Bakersfield for the opportunity to partici-pate in the eve-ning discussion. Monckton also spoke with Ba-kersfield Chris-tian High School science classes urging them to dig deeper into the facts behind what they study.

If only lawmakers in Sacramento had so much backbone. Every one of the 120 state senators and assemblymembers were invited to participate in the Sacramento hearing, but a handful of Republicans and only one Democrat participated. Since the passing of AB 32 six years ago, much controversy has surrounded the science behind the law and the economic damage it will cause, and I believe that the people of California deserve a government that passes and enforces legislation based on the most relevant and reliable facts available. Apparently most California

lawmakers don’t agree, however, because they refused to even question or listen to another perspective.

California is facing a perpetual budget deficit and roughly $250 billion in unfund-ed pension obligations, and Kern County’s

unemployment rate still stands at 15 per-cent. The only real solution is more jobs, but AB 32 will impose new regulations on California agriculture and other industries at a time when the state government should help foster job growth by streamlining the

regulatory process. It is essential that California lawmak-

ers get the science right for AB 32, and re-work California’s climate change policy if it is found to be outdated, because Cali-fornia’s economic recovery depends on it. But my fellow lawmakers’ underwhelm-ing response to even participating in the discussion doesn’t bode well for California climate change policy. Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) was elected to the California State Assembly in November 2010. She proudly serves the 32nd Assembly District encompassing most of Kern County, including Bakersfield, Ridgecrest, Tehachapi, Taft, Frazier Park/Lebec, the Kern River Valley, and a small part of San Bernardino County.

Legislature Should Keep An Open Mind On Climate Change Policy

to grow the CRA in Los Angeles county.2. Chartered a new Republican Assembly

in Torrance. I’d like to thank 28th Sen-ate District Director Bill Schmidt and 25th Senate District Director Todd Blair especially for their efforts.

3. Helped revitalize Westchester Del Rey Republican Assembly (although there is more to do).

4. Organized and held a successful County endorsing convention with 10 units in attendance, hosted by the Glendale Burbank Republican Assembly.

5. Visited 4 of the 10 units holding regular meetings in Los Angeles County.

I’ve been laying plans for the future of CRA in Los Angeles County. If elected to a full term I will promise to1.Work with CRA President Celeste Greig

to double the number of active Repub-lican Assemblies in Los Angeles County from 10 to 20.

2. Within the next year to revitalize Long Beach RA and start units in Pasadena, Boyle Heights, Calabasas, Monrovia, Arcadia, Glendora and Pomona.

3. Work to make sure each and every Sen-ate District in Los Angeles County has at least 1 Senate District Director that can help organize new units.

4. Strengthen the existing units by work-ing to increase the membership in each existing unit by 50 percent and assist them in holding regular meetings on at least a bi-monthly basis.

5. Organize at least one big outreach event annually where all of the units in Los Angeles County pull together and bring in a big name speaker with the focus being on bringing in members in their 20s and 30s.

6. Train unit leaders in the “CRA way” to run a unit and keep proper records.

While the agenda may look ambitious, I won’t be doing it alone. It’s a roadmap. I ask for your vote and if you elect me, I ask for your assistance in accomplishing these goals.

Norman H. ReeceIn the early 1990’s,

several others and I were part of a group w h o s t a r t e d t h e Vallejo/Benicia Re-

publican Assembly under the leadership of Dave Scholl. We became the fourth unit chartered in Solano County. We are now the Southern Solano Republican Assembly and regrettably are now the only CRA Unit in the county. Several other CRA Units

have folded over the years in our area. The Napa, Sonoma and Marin Counties are now without units. I have served as the President of the SSRA for several terms and as Senate Director also. I became a CRA Vice President last year to complete the term of a seat vacated by a former CRA member. I recently called and conducted a CRA Regional Endorsing Convention which involved several units.

I would like to be elected to this office of Vice President with the goal of forming more units in Solano County as well as starting new units in Marin, Napa and So-noma Counties. I am committed the prin-ciples of the CRA and would like to see its influence and presence be established once again in this area of Northern California. I became actively involved in politics mainly as a result of my pro-life convictions and moral values needed in the public dialogue. The CRA was a natural home for me when I found out about the organization. I have been involved with the Solano County and Contra Costa County Republican Central Committees as an ex-officio member from 1996 to 2000 resulting from my running as the Republican Candidate for the 7th Con-gressional District against the Democrat incumbent, Representative George Miller, III. I have served since 2000 to the present time on the Solano County Republican Central Committee and am presently the First Vice Chairman.

In addition to being a candidate for Congress (1994, 1996 & 1998) and Vallejo City Council (1999), I have helped with several campaigns for candidates running for such offices as School Board, Board of Supervisors, City Council, Mayor, State As-sembly, State Senate and Local Measures. I have been involved with several grass roots groups and community organizations which promote civic and social responsibility.

My experiences in politics and social involvements have contributed to the well being of our community. I believe this and other experiences will enable me to help strengthen and increase the presence and influence of the California Republican As-sembly once again in this area of California. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me by email at: [email protected] or phone at: 707-644-3875. Thank you for you time and consideration in my desire to be elected as a CRA Vice President. I respectfully ask for your vote!

Robert F RegoIn 2004 there was

a need for the nur-turing and growth of the conservative

grassroots to be firmly implanted in the communities making up the core of the Inland Empire. Through my leadership and the aid of local conservative activists, the San Bernardino Valley Chapter was formed. Since that time several other local chapters have been formed of which I am proud to have facilitated.

My determination to serve the cause of conservative activism and enlighten members of local communities goes back to the 1970’s. As an activist at the Riverside campus of the University of California, I began my quest to work with others to support the candidacy of Ronald Reagan as the standard bearer and conscience of our party. Since then I have served the lo-cal community of San Bernardino Valley, sitting on several local board commissions and non-profit organizations. Raised with a strong religious foundation, I have ac-tively supported pro-life positions. I have also been an active member of the San Bernardino County Central Committee for over eighteen years. For the last three years I have served as the Chairman of the Re-publican Party of San Bernardino County.

We are now in a time when our prin-ciples are being attacked and whittled away by unrelenting national socialistic movements disguised under the auspices of the greater good. It is in these times that I feel called upon to utilize my experience and abilities to plant and nurture the seeds of local club growth, to coordinate regional conservative activities, to seek out viable conservative candidates to run for local, state and national offices, as well as to develop a program to encourage business leaders and citizens of our local communi-ties to understand the quantitative and qualitative benefits for a better life through the adherence of conservative principles.

My experiences in planning, organizing and implementing plans of action have served our local area well. I have the sup-port of local leaders and elected officials in my endeavor to seek the Vice Presidency of the CRA. I believe these experiences will serve to grow the CRA and the conserva-tive movement. Feel free to contact me at 909-496-1210. I ask for your consideration in my election for Vice President.

Richard RiosRichard Rios brings

a rich set of experi-ences coupled with many years of vol-unteer activism with

him as a candidate for Vice President of the California Republican Assembly.

While serving as a unit President, he took a unit with only two active members

on its roster and transformed it into an ac-tive unit that hosted city, county and state endorsing conventions. Under Richards tenure as president, the unit also hosted the CRA state special election meeting where current state CRA president Celeste Greig took the helm.

Richard expanded his service to CRA by accepting the appointment to Chair the Technology Committee and subsequently remained on the committee when a new chair was appointed. Richard currently serves with long time print publication editor Jeff Evans as the back-up administra-tors to both the CRA website and the CRA regular email publications.

Richard is currently on the Fact Finding Committee and is a past member of the Charter Review Committee.

All of Richards hard work for CRA is not limited to the CRA Board and Committees. During the 75th Anniversary Convention hosted by Buena Park and led by Baron Night, he and members of his unit who were sworn officers provided security and setup assistance.

In 2011, the National Federation of Re-publican Assemblies requested that Rich-ard meet with national leaders to provide them additional assistance on creating and developing a national membership tracking system. Richard stayed true to his dedication to the Republican Assemblies and traveled to Iowa as part of California’s delegation and made a presentation to the general membership.

Richard has also volunteered and served as a past state Chairman of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly; a role fellow CRA member Richard Loa currently holds. Then as the founding Chairman of the Latino National Republican Coalition, he watched it grow from a handful of support-ers to an organization with state chapters and affiliates in over 20 states.

“I have the experience and relationship across the state to help CRA grow. We belong to an organization rich in history and founded in conservative activism that allows us to be looked at as the flag bearer of conservative values. I truly believe in the words of Ronald Reagan when he pro-claimed that the CRA is the “conscience of the Republican Party”.

However we must be sober and recog-nize that CRA has gone through some very difficult maturing pains over the last year or two. The road ahead will take vision and leadership that can work with others to build teams that can address our public outreach and develop a strategic that will lend credibility to CRA beyond an endorse-ment. As Vice President I will work to

energize our technology again, enact long term projects that will expand CRA’s activity recognition, and work to

put CRA on the leading edge of legislation in California instead of a support only organization.

CRA should be first on the ground when new legisla-tion affects our families. It should also be positioned to lead the way with initiatives and referendums if needed

to change bad laws.I am asking for your support and vote to make these

goals a reality. Let’s put the turbulence of the last couple of years behind take CRA to the next level! Thank you and God bless.” – Richard Rios

SINCE 1934, the California Republican Assembly – CRA – has been working to elect Republican candidates who stand unwaveringly for Republican principles.

As California’s oldest and most influential volunteer Republican organization, CRA’s endorsement is a coveted privilege for those candidates who meet our high standards — conservative, principled, electable and the overwhelm-ing choice of our membership.

When CRA endorses a candidate, we are committing volunteers, resources and our reputation. This is what President Reagan had to say about CRA:

“The best symbol of the grassroots worker I can think of is the California Republican Assembly ... CRA provides the nucleus of the Republican candidate’s volunteer work brigade.

I know from personal experience. It’s hard to imagine my campaigns being anywhere near as suc-cessful as they were without the dedication of CRA’s members. I urge you to join CRA today.”

Inalienable Rights: We believe that man’s “rights” flow from the Creator and the rights of life, liberty, and justice cannot be legitimately granted or rescinded by men.Judeo-Christian Foundation: We believe in the guiding force of moral law as expressed by the Judeo-Christian ethic and contained in the Holy Scriptures of these his-toric faiths.Self-Government: We believe that the only answer to the current moral decline that our nation now faces is a return to the beliefs and standards of morality which our founding fathers placed into the Constitution. We believe with the framers of that document when President Adams stated, “This Constitution will not work except with a religious people.” We understand that the concept of self-government begins with governing one’s self first, then family, community, state, and nation.Education: We believe in the rights of parents to a quality education for their children. We support parental choice to create competition among the schools. We must in-sure that no school or teachers union can compromise the education of our children or advance a particular political agenda at the expense of our future generation’s educations.Decentralized Government: We believe in the power of the individual over the power of the state. We believe that only small government truly serves the needs of the people.Taxes: We believe that the federal tax system is abusive to the American people while discouraging investment and growth. We believe in growth-oriented tax policies which would gradually eliminate punitive income taxes and move our tax system in the direction of use taxes and sales taxes only.Sanctity of Life: We believe that the preborn child is a hu-man being deserving the full protection of the law.National Defense: We believe in a strong and consistent national defense. We believe in victory over, and not ac-commodation with, tyranny in any form or philosophy.Free Enterprise: We believe in the free enterprise system as the best hope for men and women to fulfill their economic hopes and dreams. We know that the free market is the most efficient and the least costly system to deliver the highest quality goods and services at the lowest price to the consumer. We will support only those who support the free enterprise system through legislation to reduce or eliminate intrusive government intervention in the marketplace.Family: We believe that the traditional American family, defined as any persons related by blood, marriage of a man and a woman and/or adoption, is the cornerstone of our American society, and the government is duty bound to protect the integrity of the family unit through legislation and taxation policies.Right to Bear Arms: We believe in the unqualified right of our citizens to keep and bear arms without the intrusive hand of government.Victims’ Rights: We believe in the concept of victims’ rights over the rights of any criminal. We support a system of restitution as a deterrent to crime and recidivism.Term Limitation: We believe that public service is a privi-lege. We support term limits for public officials, not as an ideal but as a necessity to dissuade career politicians. It is the people who should rule, not an elite with little accountability.National Sovereignty: We believe in an America first pro-gram in which Government’s first concern is the welfare and protection of the American people. We support political leaders who will adopt policies that create fair and com-petitive trade.
