caliber JANUARY 2016 CHRISTIAN ACADEMY OF LOUISVILLE ALUMNI NEWSLETTER started at CAL his freshman year of high school. He played in the percussion ensemble and played football, two of his fondest memories of CAL. Once hitting upperclassman status he took a particular liking to Advanced Placement Physics. He used his newly acquired knowledge to plan the positioning of our mascot, the Centurion, on the football field. Measuring every angle and map- ping every detail to make sure it was centered and proportionately correct was a task he enjoyed. Fast forward to 2015 and we find Kyle having just completed working on a high profile job that affects the entire city of Louisville, the new Lincoln Bridge. He graduated from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. While at WKU he competed with a team comprised of classmates, in the National Student Steel Bridge Competition. ey placed in the top 25 teams in the nation. He became an intern for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet in the 2013-2014 year; through this he secured a position working on the Lincoln Bridge. Kyle used his vantage point to take some incredible photos and videos of the huge project, making it on to the local news. Unafraid of heights, he shared that the highest point on the center of the bridge is 286 feet, but Kyle anticipates working on projects that will make the Lincoln Bridge seem small. When asked about how he felt CAL impacted his path he felt that the level of expectation from the school pushed him to strive for excellence. Kyle now works full time with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, meaning possible changes in location, but anxiously waits to see where it takes him. Kyle also owns and operates Simpson Creek Productions, a business videoing weddings and is currently working with WKU on a project. We are certainly proud of Kyle Parks! ’11 ALUMNUS

alumni spotlightsAndrew Pryor ’88Hello, fellow CAL alumni! Allow me to introduce myself to those whom I’ve not yet met. My name is Andrew Pryor, I’m married to Angie (who also attended CAL) and we have two daughters, Reagan (almost 12) and Macy (10). I graduated from CAL in 1988 along with about 34 other seniors. Remember the courtyard lockers, PE in Seneca Park across the street, and the sweet old janitor “Mr. Mac”? Both of my brothers (Tre, class of ‘84, and Matthew, class of ‘92) graduated from CAL. We started attending in CAL’s first year at the Rock Creek campus, so you know CAL has been a part of our family culture for many years now!

After graduating from UK, I did web design/development for almost17 years, and then my career took an unexpected turn. I hurt my mid-back in 1999, and have had to get epidural shots every three months

or so for the past 16 years. As part of my pain-relief regimen, I started getting massages with some regularity. Massage therapy, along with my shots, has made all the difference in allowing me to live a somewhat pain-free life, non-reliant on medications. A couple of years ago, I felt like it was time to change career paths but wasn’t sure where God would lead me.

After much prayer and research into various businesses, Angie and I decided to open Elements Massage in the new Middletown Commons shopping center at the corner of I-265 and Shelbyville Rd. Because massage has been so helpful to me, I understand the clients’ needs, and I’m all about customer service. Combine the two with something that’s incredibly helpful to those with health issues (like myself) and the massage business makes sense for us. We’ve got a certified staff of therapists to meet the various needs people may have, and are excited to see how this business might grow.

Cailley Harris ’10Cailley Harris grew-up in the church and graduated from CAL in 2010. Although the gospel was taught to her it didn’t become real until the summer she attended a training program for Campus Outreach Lex-ington. Cailley got involved with Campus Outreach while in college. The experience allowed the Lord to instill in her the desire to share

Christ with other college students. Campus Outreach Lexington seeks to equip college students with the necessary spiritual disciplines and a Christian community that will allow them to walk with the Lord through college and out into the real world. They are driven by the Gospel and

boldly share their faith on the various campuses that partner with the organization. Currently, Cailley is raising personal support to work in an

administrative position for the ministry.

“I am so excited to be able to use my talents and passions in their main Lexington office to further serve this ministry as it continues to carry out building laborers on the campus for

the lost world.” ~ Cailley

Hannah Priest ’11Hannah Priest graduated from CAL in 2011. In May, she graduatedfrom Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, KY with a degree in Elementary Education and emphasis in P-12 Special Education. Her teaching career was launched last month when she moved to Mauri-tius (an island in East Africa) for a year to teach at Lighthouse Primary Schools. It is a smaller, private Christian school on the northern part of the island. It is known across the island for its strong academics and the way in which it prepares students for secondary school. In Mauritius, a person can practice whatever religion they wish, but evangelism is illegal. Therefore Hannah will be classified as a teacher, not a mission-ary. Hannah is being sent to Lighthouse through an organization called TeachBeyond. Currently in 30 countries, TeachBeyond is an internation-al 501(c)(3) organization that provides transformational education to

children and adults. While teaching in a Christian setting, teachers also serve as missionaries to their students, co-workers, and neighbors.

Chelcey (Tate ’11) Rayome Chelcey Tate is a lifestyle blogger, graphic designer, photographer, and hand-let-tering artist, who just so happens to also be a CAL alumni! She started her web-site, chelceytate.com, in the Spring of 2013 and just recently quit her day job to pursue her creative ventures full time.

Since starting her business, Chelcey has worked with companies of all sizes, but the most notable would be Krispy Kreme, who she collaborated with to design their 2015 Valentine’s Day campaign! On her website you can find posts about her personal style (photographed by CAL alum Haaken Magnuson), essays on faith, life, growth and interviews with other small business owners like herself.
