Day to day affairs of running the school are being managedby the Principal assisted by appropriate staff under overallsupervision of the School Committee comprising of 3 or 4representat ives of the Trust , the Principal and arepresentative of the teaching and non-teaching staff. TheSchool Building is spacious with all modern facilities and isdesigned to accommodate students from Std. I upto Std. XIIwith a seating capacity of 7,200, working in two shifts. Themotto of the school reads “ ” which means“MODESTY ADORNS KNOWLEDGE.”

The school does not receive any Grant-in-Aid from theGovernment and the only source of income is the amount offees collected from the students.

The Trust holds exemption u/s 80G of the Income TaxAct and is registered with the Charity Commissioner underRegistration No.E8297 (BOM) dated 17-8-1981 as a PublicCharitable Trust with the object to establish and/or runeducational institutions.

Any constructive suggestion from the parents whosechildren are being admitted to the school shall always bewelcome. The Trust Office is housed in the Yashodham HighSchool Building, Goregaon (E), Mumbai - 400 063. wheresuch constructive suggestions can be recorded with theTrustee-in-charge.

1. VASANT VIHAR HIGH SCHOOL & JUNIOR COLLEGE was foundedon 02-07- 1990. The medium of instruction in the School is English.Presently, the classes are conducted for Primary (Std. I to Std. IV),Secondary (Std.V to Std. X)

2. The School prepares students for the Secondary School CertificateExaminat ion (S.S.C.E.) and Higher Secondary Certif icateExamination (H.S.C.E.) conducted by the Maharashtra State Boardof Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.

3. The academic year of the school begins in June.4. The aim of the school is to develop all the facets of the personality

of a student through liberal education and broad curricula. The schoolstands for academic excellence, development of skills and formationof character through curricular and extra -curricular activities whichhelp to broaden the mental outlook of the students and provideopportunity to discover and develop the latent talents in them.

5. The objective of the school is to prepare the students to facechallenges of life, to encourage the creative ability, to help themunderstand their obligations to society and to inculcate humane andaesthetic values. This objective is realized by arranging variousact ivit ies l ike mock parliamentary sessions, competit ions,exhibitions, field- trips, seminars, talks by eminent personalities etc.during the 'Zero hour'. Hobby classes and free coaching for differentgames and sports are also available.

6. The school has a well-equipped Computer Laboratories and audiovisual rooms with latest equipments and offers Computer Educationfor both Primary and Secondary Sections.

7. Languages offered will be in accordance with the recommendationsof Maharashtra State Board. Learning Marathi language iscompulsory.

8. Physical training and outdoor games are compulsory (unless adoctor's certificate is produced)

9. Admissions of children to the school is open to all, irrespective ofcaste, creed, religion and sex.

10. At the time of admission to the School, the age limit prescribed byT.M.C. (for Std. I) below shall be rigidly adhered to. Std. I Bornbetween 1st January 2007 to 31st December 2007.

11. Should the parent / Guardian feel that his/ her child is not makingthe desired progress, the principal should be contacted for guidance.

OUR TEACHERS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO OFFER PRIVATETUITIONS. The Parents are advised to refrain from engaging teacherseither from the school or from outside for coaching, as such tuitionsnormally do more harm than good.

1. Parents seeking admission for their ward in Std. I will haveto produce any one of the following documents to confirmthe date of birth.a. Birth certificate given by hospital / municipality.b. School leaving certificate from the Pre Primary school.c. Affidavit filed by the parent.

2. Parents seeking admission for their ward should initially fill in arequest form along with a Xerox copy of student's final result ofprevious year from the earlier school. Admission will be granted onthe basis of merit.

3. On being granted admission, the parent/guardian will have to fill in theApplication Form and Admission Form and submit the necessarycertificates.

4. A child coming from a recognized school will be admitted only when aschool leaving certificate from the school he/she has last attended, isproduced. The school leaving certificate or transfer certificate shouldbear the recognition number of that school. In case of studentscoming from schools outside Maharashtra State / or from otherboards, the School Leaving Certificate must be countersigned by theEducational Inspector of the area in that state from where he/shecomes.

5. All withdrawals from the school can be made only on the writtenrequest for the same by the parent/guardian of the child to thePrincipal. Application for a leaving certificate should be made by theparent or guardian on the prescribed form provided in the schoolcalendar.

6. In case of request for a duplicate of the school leaving certificate,the parent or guardian, will have to produce an affidavit stating thereinwhat has happened to the original certificate and why a duplicateSchool Leaving Certificate.

1. Regular Attendance is essential.

2. Students must be present in the school after holidays/vacations onthe re-opening day of the school. They must also remain presentin the school on the last working day of the school, preceding theholidays/vacations. Such absence will be viewed seriously.

3. A medical certificate will have to be produced immediately in case ofabsence due to sickness and while resuming school after sickness, amedical fitness certificate must be submitted by the student.

4. A student should not remain absent from the school except in caseof emergency. On the day on which he/she returns to school, the studentmust produce a note in the Calendar from his/her parent/ guardian statingthe reason for the absence. The School accepts no responsibility if dueto failure in producing this note from the parent/guardian, the student issent back home during class hours.

5. If the child is ill suffering from some contagious disease, the Principalshould be informed of the same within two days by the parent/guardiansupported by a medical certificate. The child should not be sent toschool till he/she is free from any danger of carrying infection. At thetime of resuming school, the child must produce a medical fitnesscertificate.

6. Any student who is late in attending school, should bring with him/her awritten application from his/her parent/guardian for late attendance.School accepts no responsibility if he/she is sent home during classhours due to failure in producing such written application.

7. No student will be permitted to leave school early. No half day leavewill be granted.

8. Attendance and wearing of P.E. Uniform at official school functions,like Sports day, Independence day, Republic day etc. is compulsory.Absentees will be penalized.

EVALUATION

As per the Maharashtra Education department's directive, the schoolhas adopted the Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) patternfrom the academic year 2010 -2011 for the classes I to VIII.

CCE involves Formative and Summative Evaluation throughout the year.

The various techniques used in Formative Evaluation help in shapingthe personality of the student.(physical, intellectual, emotional and overalldevelopment)

Summative Evaluation is done at the end of each term, which consistsof written, oral / practical formats.

Parents should ensure that the children strictly adhere to the FormativeEvaluation technique schedule (which will be given by the respectivesubject teachers) on calendar page nos. 26 - 31.

A student must have a minimum of 75% of attendance of the total workingdays.

For Std IX, Annual promotion is done on the basis of aggregateperformance of students throughout the year. Evaluation includes projectwork in Physical Education; assignments in Social Science, Mathematicsand languages.

There will be two unit tests & two terminal examinations in the year.

Promotion to the next class will be decided on the basis of relevantrules in force from time to time.

All submissions to be punctual. In case of delay, the child is liable to bedetained after school (secondary) / called before school hours (primary).

RULES FOR THE STUDENTS

1. This is an English medium school. All the students are expected

to speak in English.

2. Students must bring the calendar everyday to school.

3. The school uniform and identity card must be worn every day. A student

without proper uniform will be sent back.

4. Uniform worn should be neat and tidy, hair properly combed and shoespolished well.

5. Students should not wear jewellery, costly wrist watches and shouldnot bring valuable items, mobile phones, pager etc. to school.

6. Books, magazines, comics etc. should not be brought to the school.No article liable to be a source of distrubance should be brought to

school.

7. Any student coming late will not enter the class unless he/she brings anote to the teacher from the Vice-Principal/Principal.

8. Students must maintain silence in the school. They must maintaindiscipline when moving from one class to another. They should move

in a single file only.

9. No student will be excused from Physical Education without a Doctor’s

Certificate.

10. No collections will be made by the students unless permitted by thePrincipal in advance.

11. Students are not allowed to give presents to the teachers.

12. Students are not allowed to distribute sweets/presents/eatables of anykind on their birthday. Instead they can voluntarily donate a book/s tothe school library, to inculcate the good habit of reading and sharing.

13. Students should look after their books, clothes, pens, wrist watch,

money, etc. School does not accept any responsibility for loss of suchthings.

14. Students should be regular, courteous, well-behaved, disciplined andclean in their dress and habits.

15. A student who is persistently insubordinate, wilfully mischievous, guiltyof misconduct and/or has negative influence on fellow students is liable

to be expelled from the school.

16. A student is responsible to the school not only for his/her behaviour in

the school but also for his/her general behaviour outside. Every effortshould be made by the student to keep up the good name of the schoolby his/her manners and department. Students should greet their

teachers/visitors when they meet them.

17. Students will not take part in any political activities.

18. During the absence of the teacher, the Prefect or Monitor will beresponsible for the order and discipline of the class.

19. It is forbidden to buy eatables from street vendors.

20. Students are expected to keep THE SCHOOL PREMISES CLEAN.

SAFETY MEASURES

1. Students should compulsorily wear the identity-card issued to themby the school along with their uniform.

2. Parents should inform the school authority regarding the particularsof the person they delegate to collect their children from school, ifthey are not doing so themselves.

3. Parents should carry the identity card issued by the school, wheneverthey visit the school.

4. Children should be given the following instructions, periodically &Children should be alert at all times.• Children should not talk to strangers, accept anything in cash or

kind from strangers.• Children should never agree to go home with strangers.• Children should not agree to go home even with relative without

prior confirmation with their parents.• Children should not talk loudly on streets or in front of strangers

about any situation of their home or about the time when theirparents are not at home.

• Children should always move around in groups, especially to andfro from school.

5. It is imperative for parents to collect their children from the point atwhich they are left by the school bus otherwise the children will bebrought back to school.

6. Parents should explain the concept of good touch and bad touch totheir children.

7. Children using the school bus will be given numbers, so that theysit in the proper place.

8. Parents can form car pool groups for leaving and bringing childrento and fro from school.

9. Parents should supervise/stay with the children when they go downto play.

10. Sending children to shops/shopping centre, alone should be avoided.11. Parents should give their children a Re. 1/- coin so that children can

call home from the school’s P.C.O. in case of emergency.12. Parents should ensure that the correct phone numbers of the

residence and office are written in the calendar and their signaturesare at relevant places.

13. Parents are advised not to send their children to school if they areunwell.

14. Along with the values learnt in school, it is of utmost importance tolay stress on cleanliness and hygiene and above all a sense ofresponsibility.

RULES FOR THE SCHOOL LIBRARY

1. The Library is open from 08.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. on week days.

2. Pupils will be given library cards for borrowing books and each pupilis responsible for the books taken on his/her card.

3. Books will be issued for the use of the BORROWER only.

4. A pupil can borrow or return books once a week only.

5. Books should not be kept for more than a week. At the end of eachperiod the books may, if desired, be renewed at the discretion of theLibrarian. However, for such a renewal, the book must be produced.

6. Failure to return a book on the expiry of the period of a week, thepupil will be penalised (Re.1/- per day).

7. Books must be kept clean and used carefully. No marking should bedone in the Library book. Any imperfection found in them or anydamage done to them must be reported to the School Librarian beforetaking the book home. The damage done to books or magazinesand loss of books will have to be made good by the pupil concerned.

8. Reference books and magazines cannot be borrowed or taken out ofthe Library.

9. All books must be returned in good condition before the beginning ofeach Terminal Examination and before a Leaving Certificate is issued.The borrower who fails to return a book must pay a fine equal to thevalue of the book.

10. Bags, cases and eatables must not be brought into the Library.

11. Every pupil should help to keep the Library clean and tidy and seethat the books and magazines are kept in their proper places.

12. Strict silence must be observed in the Library and conversation shouldbe kept to the minimum and sound should be low.

13. The Library should be used only for pursuing reference books, paralleltext books, periodicals and reviews.

14. Before taking the School Leaving Certificate every student isrequested to return all Library books and get the librarian’s signaturein the Leaving Certificate. The necessary form is provided at theend of the calendar.

RECOMMENDATIONS TO PARENTS

1. Since this is an English medium school, every student shouldlearn to speak and write good English. Hence at home, he/she should be given an opportunity to speak English and speakit correctly.Parents should instruct their ward that, except for Hindi /Marathi / Sanskrit / French classes, English alone should bespoken during the school hours.

2. Parents and Guardians are reminded that without their help andco-operation not much can be achieved by the efforts made bythe school to mould and improve the character of the child. Theyare earnestly requested to instill discipline.

3. Parents are earnestly requested to pursue and sign the reportsof the child, or any other remarks made by the School Authoritiesin the calendar and do the needful in the matter.

4. Parents should not engage school teachers as private tutors,vide item 11 under School Information. We strongly discourageprivate tuitions. Instead, we would suggest that you inculcate inyour ward the habits of self-study and regularity in study. Andalso create at home a conducive atmosphere to study. Avoid allkinds of disturbances like T.V. radio, video, etc.

5. Parents are requested to refrain from giving any gifts to themembers of the staff.

6. Parents are requested to refrain from celebrating their children’sbirthday in school in any way.

7. If any student is found to have done damage of any kind in classor in and about the school premises, the parents/guardian willhave to make good the loss. Decision of the Principal regardingthe amount to be paid will be final.

8. Criticism of your children’s teachers in the presence of childrenshould be avoided as it encourages them to lose respect for theirteachers. In case of any grievance kindly meet the Principal.

9. IDENTITY CARD FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS/SERVANTS ISA MUST FOR ENTERING THE SCHOOL PREMISES. Parentsare requested to refrain from entering the school premises exceptfor meeting the Principal or Teachers by appointment. Kindlyadvise servants who come to collect your wards from school,not to remain in the school premises any longer than is necessary.

10. Parents are advised to make it a point to attend all the OpenHouses. They will not be allowed to meet the teachers withoutprior permission from the Principal on other working days.

11. Parents are requested to inform the School Authorities aboutany congenital disorder/allergy/physical handicap/psychologicalor emotional problem the child is suffering from, to enable theauthorities to take care of such cases at the time of emergency.

There will be a penance study class for an hour for thosewho fail to do homework, or for any other reason that theteacher or the Principal will state in the calendar.Please Note :If the child is detained or sent back during school hours due tosaid reason, in that case the responsibility towards security ofthe child will not be that of the school.

Payment of Computer FeeComputer fee is charged for the students of Std. I to X who have opted forcomputer as an optional subject.

b) Fee paid after the first month of the quarter, will be subject to surcharge

of Rs. 10/- per month.

1) The bank will levy a charge of Rs.100/- for a bounced cheque.

2) Do not deposit the School fee cheques at the bank directly byusing the bank pay- in-slip.

3) Payment made from the 13th of the due month will be receivedin cheque only at the school office and will be subject to asurcharge of Rs.20/- till the end of the month. Thereafter asurcharge of Rs.40/- per month or part thereof shall bepaid additionally.

1. Term Fees must be paid in June along with June Tuition Fee and inNovember along with November Tuition Fee. Fees can be paid inadvance half-yearly or yearly.

2. Admission Fee will be charged for admission in Std. I, Std. V and allnew admissions. Admission Fees to be paid in the month of Junealong with Term and Tuition Fees.

3. Fees for the months of April and May must be paid in April, and thisholds good even for those who wish to leave the School in April/May.

4. The delay of payment beyond 3 months renders a pupil liableto be struck off the roll. If the pupil is re-admitted the AdmissionFee must be paid again.

5. If a student is to be withdrawn, one calendar month’s noticeshould be given in writing by the Parent/Guardian to thePrincipal of the School to arrange for the refund of the balanceof tuition fees. In exceptional circumstances of withdrawal, onemonth’s tuition fee in lieu of one calendar month’s notice will haveto be paid. Amount collected as Term Fee or Tuition Fee will not berefunded.

6. Students whose fees are not paid will not be allowed to sit for I and/or II Terminal Examinations.

7. Unless all dues are paid by the student, the results of theexaminat ions/ tests conducted by the School wil l not becommunicated to the student. School Leaving Certificate will notbe issued till all the outstanding dues from the student at the time ofleaving the School are paid and clearance certificate from theconcerned authority is obtained.

8. Students who leave the School in the month previous to any vacationmust pay the fees for the vacation.

9. No deduction in fees will be allowed for vacations or for broken periodof the month. Full month’s fee will be payable if the student’s nameappears on the roll on the 1st day of the month. Admission fee willnot be refunded even if the student, for any reason, leaves the Schoolimmediately after securing admission.

10. Std. X and Std. XII students will have to pay fees till May, in themonth of January.

BUS FACILITY

The school provides bus service to the students of the Primary Sectionand Secondary Section of V.V.H.S.& JC. under the aegis of G.A.E.T.

INSTRUCTIONS:• The bus fac il i ty is ex tended to students only when there is an

availability of seats and is offered at the Principal’s discretion. Thisoffer can be withdrawn any time.

• Students will board and alight only at fixed bus stops. Parents andchildren are requested not to ask the driver or attendant to stop thebuses at unauthorised bus stops.

• Parents are not permitted to change the bus stops, without priorpermission.

• Children must obey and be courteous to the bus in-charge. Childrenfound misbehaving in the bus will not be allowed to continue availingthe bus facility.

• In the event of the child not being at the stop at the scheduled timethe bus will proceed without the child. It will be the responsibility of theparent/guardian to reach the child to School. In the event of there beingno one to receive the child at the stop of the return journey, the child willbe brought to the school and the parents will have to collect their childfrom the school authorities on presentation of their Identity Card.

IDENTITY CARD• Children using the bus facility need to carry a Bus ID Card issued by

the School.• In case there is a change in the residential address, the school

office must be notified immediately and a fresh ID Card must beobtained.

• If the Bus ID Card is lost, a written application requesting a dupli-cate ID Card must be submitted in the school office immediately. Thesame may be collected from the School office.

WITHDRAWAL• One month advance notice in writing must be given by the parents to

the school, in case they wish to discontinue the bus facility during thepe r iod Jun e to Nov emb er ( Is t Ins ta lme nt) / D ecem ber to M ay(2nd Instalment).
