Principal’s Corner Dear Fisher Parents,

Students at Fisher Middle School are very blessed to enjoy a variety of co-curricular activities to enhance their educational experiences. Whether it is music, sports, clubs, or any other school-related event, there is no question that connecting to our school in positive ways is a value added for kids.

The only challenging aspect of providing these incredible opportunities is that it requires passionate adults to guide these activities. Unfortunately, we have been struggling to fill key coaching roles within our athletic department, which if not resolved, may lead to team cancellations. WE cannot field a team without adult coaches.

Therefore, I am reaching out to the larger community for potential interest in supporting our youth teams. Currently, we need coaches for both our tennis team and our track program. The tennis season runs from March 13 through May 12.

Practices are held Monday through Thursday from 3:00-5:00 pm at Blossom Hill Park.

Our track team, which supports close to 200 athletes, is in need of (2) head coaches and (4) assistant coaches. The track and field season runs from March 27 through May 20 and also practices Monday through Thursday from 3:00-5:00 pm.

If you or someone you know may be interested in helping out, please contact either Lisa Mitchell ([email protected]) or Natalie Rynn ([email protected]), our athletic directors, to discuss possibilities. It would certainly be a shame to have to turn away kids, but we are on a short timeline and have cast the net widely to no avail.

I am hopeful that we will be able to find a resolution. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Sincerely,

Lisa Fraser Principal

Note from the Nurse

District wide we are seeing an increase in the number of cases of colds, variety of flu viruses as well as bacterial infections such as strep throat.

According to the CDC, typical flu symptoms are more intense than those of a cold and can include fever, chills, cough, sore throat, muscle and body aches, headaches, fatigue and respiratory congestion. A cold usually has milder symptoms of a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, respiratory congestion, tiredness and cough.

Strep throat is a bacterial infection and can be quite serious if not treated properly. Symptoms often include a sore throat which can start quickly, pain when swallowing, fever, red and swollen tonsils (with or without white patches), swollen lymph glands in the neck.

Follow up with the physician if you are concerned your child has been exposed to the flu or strep. Keep your child home if he/she is running a fever, has a cough or generally does not feel well, until symptoms subside and your child is well enough to fully participate in school activities.

Exposure to the flu and some bacteria cannot be completely avoided. However, measures can be taken to protect yourself and your family:

1. Thorough and frequent hand washing using soap and warm running water.

2. Adults and children can use hand sanitizer (with 60 % alcohol) if soap and water is not available. Use a wipe on infants and toddlers hands.

3. Cover the nose and mouth, preferably with a tissue, if coughing and sneezing. Droplets and spray from a cough or sneeze can travel with great speed and distance (6 -8 feet) and linger for hours in the environment.

4. Keep hands away from the face. 5. Stay hydrated. 6. Get plenty of rest.

DONATE at www.lgef.org

The finish line is just ahead! Act now and we can cross it. Already this year LGEF has

raised over $600,000 for Los Gatos schools. But we are still short of the target.

To fully fund all programs and achieve our growth goals we must raise an additional $150,000 by February 17.

It's a fact: Los Gatos schools  receive less per student  from the state and federal

government than other, similar districts.  Los Gatos Education Foundation helps "fill

the gap" with programs that educate the whole child.

To keep supporting these programs we need you. Our schools need you. Our children

need you. Please donate today.
