LINCOLN CENTRE AWARDED EXCELLENCE IN WATER CONSERVATION AWARD
Banyan Water, a smart water management company, honored Lincoln Centre, a TIAA-CREF property, with the 2012 Excellence in Water Conservation Award. By utilizing Banyan’s technology and services, Lincoln Centre reduced irrigation usage by 68% or 11.2 million gallons in 2012. That’s enough water to meet the average water needs of over 400 tenants for one year! This has not only helped increase net op-erating income for this property, but has helped the surrounding community. Many efforts are constantly being made to conserve at Lincoln Centre.
Scott Grissom, Chief Engineer, states that this is especially important because:• Our clean water supply is diminishing while Texas’ population continues to increase• Much of Texas is still in extreme drought and certain areas throughout the state could face the worst drought yet in 2013• North Texas water rates increased by over 10% in 2012• By being proactive and taking the lead in irrigation conservation, Lincoln Centre is helping prevent the water crisis while saving money and supporting local communities

LINCOLN CENTRE RECYCLES
Lincoln Centre joined more than 1 billion people in 190 countries to observe Earth Day as the green movement grows bigger and more widespread in creating a global green economy. Todd Stuart took advantage of the complimentary recycling that Iron Moun-tain provided for the three towers. Balcones Recycling hosted a lobby presentation to promote the recycling program here at Lin-coln Centre. Last month Lincoln Centre recycled approximately 143 tons of com-mingled recyclable material. As a result of last month’s recycling efforts, the following resources were conserved:
244 Trees5,449 Gallons of Oil
100,380 Gallons of Water58,794 Kilowatt Hours of Energy
47.32 Cubic Yards of Landfill Space
Hobi International provided complimen-tary recycling of electronics. They recycled 11 pallets which was 8,243 pounds.

CARING FOR THE DUCKS
Lincoln Centre takes much pride in the four-acre lake and walking paths around the property, providing a soothing envi-ronment for tenants to enjoy. The man-agement office often receives calls regard-ing the safety of the ducks. Our ducks are a part of the wildlife, and the management staff is limited in being able to care for the ducks. Over the years, special attention has been made to keep the ducks safe at Lincoln Centre. The engineers even designed and built a ramp so that the ducks could exit the lake. Signs have been installed that indicate “duck crossing.” Also, feeding the ducks can be quite harmful, and the “Live Ducks” website states, “If you care about ducks, do not feed them. Enjoy their natural beauty from a distance and protect their survival by keeping snacks to yourself.” Feeding ducks cookies, crackers, chips, bread or any junk food will dramatically shorten their life span and cause many health issues. Ducks and geese are waterfowl, and they naturally eat vegetation found in their natural habitat.
