give them one of them a call. A number of members have been asking what is involved with the different jobs relating to
the running of the club. The Executive discussed this question and came up with this general overview of duties for the
various positions. It was felt this information should be again printed in the October Kamshaft [p6] before elections.
The cook trailer will not be at the Halloween Motif Pot Luck Dinner October 27th please bring a dish to feed at least
eight.
I would still like to receive stories from members in regard to summer activities so I can add them to the Kamshaft as
it is a club newsletter. Members tell me they like to read of personal experiences however people don’t seem to want to
write them.
It turns out there was quite a discussion at the September meeting on the club car trailer. It appears that the road
regulations have either been changed or are taking on a different interpretation. All depends if you are talking to ICBC,
RCMP, Weigh Scales or the CSVC. It seems we get a different story from each. It is very important that we do not have
our members getting tickets when they are using the trailer. I am sure the executive will look into the matter and report
back to the members before any action is taken and what steps must be taken to safely use the club trailer.
A reminder or our Annual Brass Monkey Fall Tour travelling to the Chase area then an optional tour to the Salmon
Run on the Adams River. Leaving Valleyview A & W 9:30 am Sunday Oct. 24th.
LETTERS to the EDITOR I missed “Old Photos” in the September Kamshaft. AN {Ed: - Sorry as I only have personal photos left to use.}
Congratulations to Craig Beddie on his win at Vancouver’s "Steamworks Concours d'Elegance in Gastown.”
Craig won third in the Muscle Car division. I understand the competition is extremely tough so that is a real
feather in his cap. KS

Mountain Home Idaho: - . Sept. 11th to 15th I visited
Jim Hines now 68 or 69 at his 40 plus acres of parts and cars at his scrap
yard in Mountain Home Idaho. As you can see there is something here
for EVERY era of car collector. It won't be lasting much longer as the
housing tracts are creeping ever closer and his property is becoming
more valuable than the revenue it can produce currently. If anybody
wants more info, such as phone, fax or directions--let me
know.John Rostron

MOUSE, MOUSE Where art thou hiding? Spread sheets of Bounce around
foundation areas, or in your trailers, or cars that are sitting for winter storage as it is
suppose keeps mice from entering your vehicle.
2010 8th Annual Steamworks Concours d’Elegance This 17th century tradition originally started with the French rich parking their horses and
carriages in their finest dress on weekends and holidays. Around 1889 automobiles began
replacing the horses and carriages amongst the wealthy and within Paris and Berlin this
practice became known as “the Concours d’Elegance”. Overtime it developed into a competition amongst the
wealth where they were judged un their vehicle’s appearance. However, in 1939 the practice stopped because of
WWII. Fortunately the display of prestigious vehicles was brought back to life in the 50’s with the “Pebbles
Beach Concours d’Elegance” in Carmel California.
Two May Tours ago Craig was invited to participate in the Steamworks d’Elegance. What an honour that is.
The event is sponsored by many different businesses with the primary sponsor being the Steamworks
Brewery Pub. It is held in Gastown on Water Street near the steam clock. This is a perfect area fro the different
groups of vehicles amongst the older buildings and on the cobbled streets.
We drove to Vancouver September 5th. That evening Craig and I attended a meet and greet event at the
Steamworks Brewery Pub who supplied all the appetizers and held a no host bar for the event. The Concours
d’Elegance event was on September 4th. The day turned out to be perfect—many cloudy periods. People of all
walks of life and ages were there to see the vehicles. And the passengers of an Alaskan Cruise Ship were
presently surprised the event occurring while they were visiting Vancouver.
This years classes were: - Class 1-American 50’s (8 vehicles) Class 2-Thunderbirds 55–57 (5 vehicles)
Class 3–American 60–73 (7 vehicles) Class 4-European 46 – 67 (9vehicles) Class 5-Class European
/Domestic 25–48 (8 vehicles) Class 6-Motorcyles Recognizing BSA 100th Anniversary 1948–1973 (13
motorbike) Class 7–Muscle Cars (8 vehicles) Class 8–Micro cars (8 vehicles). In addition to these classes,
there were unique groups of vehicles there --Vintage Race Cars pre–1974 (9 vehicles) Hot Rods (8 vehicles)
Military Vehicles (12 vehicles. This display was called “Highway of Heroes” and dedicated to the fallen and
those still serving in Afghanistan and other wars. Woodies (13 vehicles) Antique 3 vehicles – a beautiful 1907
Peugeot [one of two still driving].
The Class that Craig participated in was the
Muscle Cars. The competition was very stiff.
These muscle cars were beautiful – immaculately
restored. Judging must have been difficult as it
was based out of only 10 points. At the end of the
day was Craig place 3rd with his 1969 Oldsmobile
442 convertible and was presented with a very
nice framed picture as a trophy.

A 1970 Challenger 440 Shaker placed 1st and this 1968 Shelby Mustang placed 2nd.
This was a first class event and we both enjoyed ourselevs immensely. Attending one of these Concours d’
Elegance events is an opportunity to see a number of high-end restored vehicles all in one area. This event
raises funds for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. We both highly recommended this event. Marlene Beddie

I believe the year was 1946 but not sure. When we were visiting Vancouver my Mother & sister took me
for a ride on the BC Electric Observation Car (Referred to as the “Rubber Necker”) around the street of
Vancouver where the trolleys went. The trolley would stop during the trip and a photographer would take a
picture from the top of a building. You could purchase the picture at the end of the ride.
This summer while we were in New Hampshire at the Hupp Meet we visited a Trolley Museum and tucked
away in the back of one of the barns was a similar trolley. I wonder!! Could it possibly be the same one as I am
sure there was not that many of them? Editor

AUCTION NIGHT Thanks to Dick for handling the bidding and his two helpers our auction went
quite well. Boy was there ever a lot of stuff this year. I do not know how Dick
does it but he seems to turn evrything into a sensational item that you must have.
It was funny when he had a timing light he said you could have fun with this standing on the side of the road
pointing it like a radar gun. Quite surprised as this is one of the items that did not get sold. It is nice knowing
that our club members are in good shape as a step master exercise machine never even received a opening
bid..Thanks to all of you that brought and shopped.
The Steering Column {President Al Paulsen} The summer just keeps going but won’t be long before we start putting our treasures away for the winter. But not yet there are lots of things happening. October started out with the pumpkin run. This gets us in the mood for Halloween so remember that the General Meeting Oct 27th is a pot luck supper meeting with a Halloween motif. Hope you dress up for the occasion let loose have some fun. The Heritage days festivities were well attended with eight vintage vehicles and Gerry Wallin putting on a good show of heritage gadgets. The next day saw a group of us take in the tractor pull and steam tractors in the Vernon area. Anyone interested in going to Governors’ meeting in Merritt on the !6th give me a shout as I am going. The Brass monkey tour is on for the 24th we are heading to Chase area to take in a tour of a collection of fifty tow trucks from 1950 to current plus other interesting auto related stuff then on to Squilax to see the last of the salmon run. Finally a reminder that elections happen in November, so if you want to get active volunteer to run for office. We are still getting new members so obviously the word is out, the last three have indicated they are joining because we have some interesting things happening. I have had fun this past year and hope that a new executive will keep up the momentum. Our calendar will be coming together in the next month so if you have a interesting picture you would like in it please forward to me most of the months will have a collage of pictures featured showing cars activities and members .
Happy Motoring Alden Paulsen

Glenn Gallagher has been missing his outings with the Antique Chapter (1927 and older) so he has found and purchased a 1926 Pierce Arrow roadster, which, from a distance anyway, sure looks good! Glenn plans to repaint it over the winter to have it ready for the Antique tours next season. Now that Jason Tasko has finished his 1926 Chevrolet truck, he is thinking about getting started on the '28 Whippet. Over the summer he found an extra Whippet engine and transmission (was a power plant) in the Cache Creek area and now has that home in his yard. Jerry Wallin has had the cracks in the block(s) for his 1911 McLaughlin welded up and hopefully the engine will now be back together soon. Andy Cordonier has bought another old tractor. The make and year is still a mystery. Ken Finnigan has bought back the Wolseley sedan that he used to own some years back. It will become a donor car for his Austin Healey, which uses the same running gear. Ray Henry trailered his 1924 Buick back to Riding Mountain, Manitoba over the summer to celebrate the town's 100th birthday. Apparently the whole town of 300 people turned out for the parade and the Buick was well received. Ernie McNaughton is now teaching himself how to bend stainless steel for the runningboard mouldings on the '37 Lincoln Zephyr. Once the stainless is bent to the right shape it is back to Salmon Arm to get the studs welded on and
then goes for polishing. Keep at it, Ernie.....There actually is light at the end of the tunnel! That's it for this month. Dick

KAMLOOPS CELEBRATES HERITAGE DAYS
The day started out windy and overcast. However by the time everything was set up the sun was shinning and
it turned out to be a great day. The Museum was celebrating Heritage Days along with the Farmer’s Market. We
were asked to participate so our club supplied 8 cars along with Jerry Wallin’s trailer of historic what ever stuff.
Our display was well received by the public especially Jerry’s trailer where he had a hit “n” miss engine
running and operating a water pump. The noise of these engines always manages to attract a crowd. Thanks
Jerry for doing this for us.
