Holy Family Day School:What Makes the Day School Different

From the Rest? Our Parish School certainly has grown over the past 15 years! What started with three teachers, a music teacher and twenty students, has

become a thriving, well-respected learning center in the heart of our community. Today, the Day School has fifteen employees, 73 students and we continue to encourage a love of learning. So, how are we different? Our Principal, Mrs. Girard has created a team of teachers who come together each day to support the school, the students and each other. Our teachers stay with us for years because the Day School is a great place to be and this concept conveys to the students as well as the families! We work hard to make every student feel safe and confident in the knowledge that they are cherished. Almost anywhere you travel around this area you will hear compliments about how the teachers and staff of the Day School go the extra mile to ensure individual attention is given to each student. There are public school employees and administrators who highly recommend our school to parents who have just moved in to the area. Several NATO countries repeatedly send their young families our way for excellent care and education while they are in the United States. Families with children who have previously attended the school bring their younger children back to us when they are old enough to enter school. The thematic based, academic learning program is phenomenal, but it is the ability to mesh that with a sense of wonder and excitement about learning as your child develops that makes the Day School a true gem. Registration for next year has only been open to the public for a while and spaces are filling up! Visit our website at www.holyfamilydayschool.org and then give us a call at 757-481-1180 for a tour.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a Pot Luck meal (you bring the fixins’), and continue with an informal meeting which will end about 8:00 p.m. The meeting dates are the following Thursdays: April 20, May 18, June 15, September 21, and October 19. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NEWS Council 10804

INFOMERCIALKnights of Columbus Founders Day ~ March 29

On that date, 135 years ago (1881), the Order received official recognition as a fraternal benefit society.

KOVAREverything we do as an organization in the parish, in our

families, or in the community, is an act of charity, which is our first principle in the Knights of Columbus. Meeting the needs of our less fortunate brothers and sisters, those who we refer to as “God’s Special People,” is a very important exercise of charity.

KOVAR, which was founded 46 years ago by Virginia Knights, was created to extend our charity to Virginians with intellectual disabilities who wish to lead their lives as everyone else does. Every dollar of the more than $15 Million dollars that has been raised thus far through KOVAR goes to support vital programs. These funds are used for training and equipment that allow our friends to improve their ability to communicate, live more independently, develop job skills, and live more fulfilling lives. KOVAR also provides funds to support Virginia Special Olympics (which is coming soon) and KOVAR Home Loans which make it possible for many people with Intellectual Disabilities to live in safe and comfortable homes.

We will be collecting on the weekend of April 22/23.Thank you in advance for your continuing support!

Weekly Wisdom

“CATHOLICISM: The Pivotal Players:”All four Gospels place women at the tomb to become the first witnesses to the resurrection. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, Salome, and Joanna. These Women from Galilee provide the link between the ministry of Jesus and His passion. Their presence at the cross, burial, and the resurrection of Jesus is significant to us all.

At Easter, then and today, Jesus calls us with the simple instruction, “Wait with me...Follow Me.” It is an open-ended demand requiring courage, self-sacrifice, and perseverance. It is a choice with a promise that we will one day be with Him in paradise. During this Easter season, reflect upon the gift of the resurrection in your faith life and ask yourself if you are answering Jesus’ call to follow Him – what are YOU choosing this Easter?

Women’s Faith Sharing and Fellowship Circles are ongoing and meet at various times during the month. For more information, contact Marie Sexton at (757) 718-4147.

THE ART OF CARING LISTENING CONVER-SATION – SPRING 2017: Dr. Milton Meyeroff explains that caring means feeling connected to another, but still appreciating that the person is an individual with separate appetites, needs, and desires. Caring consists of ingredients such as patience, honesty, trust, humility, hope, and courage. With this thought in mind, I invite any parishioner who would like to consider the ministry of HOME VISITOR here at Holy Family, or from any other parish, or for any Home Visitor who feels a need for a refresher, to attend the two weekend seminar here at Holy Family. The dates will be Saturday, April 29, and May 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Lunch will be from noon to 1:00 p.m. on both days. Bring a sandwich, unless you have a special diet. Everything else will be provided. Topics include: the theological history of Pastoral Care, essentials of a pastoral conversation, self-care, spirituality and prayer, bringing Eucharist to the sick, and more. The seminar is very interactive. Contact Chaplain Jim Fedor at 481-5702 to enroll or if you have questions. Look forward to seeing you.

FEATURING “FORMED.ORG!”Alleluia! Easter is here! What better way to continue the Easter Celebration than to focus on the sacrament of Baptism. Here is a witness from a parishioner regarding two resources on Baptism.

My Godchild, Kelly, just had a baby, Brayden, and they are going to have him Baptized soon. I told her about the programs on Formed geared toward Baptism that I thought might help their family and Godparents prepare for Brayden’s Baptism. The CD from Fr. Mike Schmitz called “Changed Forever” is excellent. Fr. Mike is young and enthusiastic and has a way of presenting that helped me realize the lifelong change that Baptism should mean in my life as well as for all of us. I also recommended the program “Reborn,” a 4-part video program on the Sacrament of Baptism, which is under the program section of Formed under the discipleship group. I wish that these programs were available when I became a Godmother. As a mother, I also wished we had resources like this when my own child was baptized. The power of this type of education is amazing – totally strengthening my faith and love of Catholicism. Having access to and using Formed.org has enriched my understanding of my faith so I in turn can help my family, friends and community.

“CREATION CARE CORNER:”Join the Parish Environmental Committee for the celebration of EARTH DAY. On the weekend of April 22/23, we will join with people throughout our country to pay tribute to and offer thanksgiving for our Earth, which is abundantly generous with the vital gifts it places at our disposal.

The Environmental Committee has arranged for various activities to enable us parishioners to celebrate EARTH DAY. The liturgies that weekend will include hymns, and petitions in the Prayer of the Faithful, which speak of our environment. Fr. Gaudy will have some words in his homily concerning the Earth. Between the liturgies on Sunday, Mr. John Dano from Hampton Roads Sanitation Department will give a presentation on the newly developed method of purifying waste water so it can be drinkable. The shredder will be available for your use from April 22 to April 30 to dispose of important documents. A Pure water purifier will be given to the person with the lucky number. Exhibits from different local environmental organizations will be set up, having materials for your taking. Fair Trade coffee from Haiti will be on sale. We take for granted the air we breathe, the land we walk on, and the water we drink. Together, let’s give special attention to our Home, Mother Earth, and participate in these simple activities.

The Committee is hopeful that parishioners will learn more, appreciate more, and take greater care in our use of the gifts of our Earth.

“I exhort everyone to see the world through the eyes of God the Creator: the earth is an environment to be safeguarded, a garden to be cultivated.” ~ Pope Francis
