Calcium and magnesium in liming materials EDTA titrimetric methods First action 1962 Final action 1965 (Not applicable to samples with high phosphate content or contg <2%Mg) (Caution: See safety note on eyanides) A.Reagents (a) Buffer soln. – pH 10. Dissolve 67.5 g NH 4 in 200 mL. H 2 O, add 570mL. NH 4 OH, and dil. To 1L. (b)Potassium hydroxide-potassium cyanide soln.- Disolve 280g. KOH and 66g. KCN in 1L. H 2 O. (c)Potassium cyanide soln. – 2%. Dissolve 2g. KCN in 100mL. H 2 O. (d)Eriochrome black T indicator soln. – Dissolve 0.2g indicator (HOC 10 H 6 N:NC 10 H 4 (OH)(NO 2 )SO 3 Na) (Eastman Kodak P6361, or equiv.) in 50 ml. MeOH contg 2 g NH 2 OH,HCl. Store 1 month. (e)Magnesium std solns.-0.25 and 1.00 mg/mL. Dissolve 0.25 and 1.00g Mg turnings in HCl (1+10) and dil. each to 1 L with double distd H 2 O. (f)Calcium std soln.
