dynamic loads. It can analyze piping

systems of any size or complexity.

CAESAR II is unique, incorporating

calculation methods and analysis

options not found in any other program.

Whether you are designing a new

system or trouble-shooting an existing

one, CAESAR II produces results that

completely describe the system

behavior based on guidelines and

design limits from accepted industry

standards. With CAESAR II, you can

do more in less time and with less

chance of error.

Output reports can be generated to show any data for any load case.

CAESAR II provides four modes of graphics representation.

CAESAR II’s auxiliary modules evaluate attached equipment, vessels and restraints.

Input & ModelCapabilitiesCAESAR II input capabilities haverevolutionized the way pipe stressengineers approach flexibility analy-sis. The architecture, speed andresponsiveness of CAESAR II’s inputformat reduce modeling time fortypical jobs from hours to minutes.

The on-line help combined with anested hierarchy of less frequentlyused features ensure that you arenot distracted with complex screensor confusing options. You see onlywhat you need to see, when youneed to see it.

Once a computer model is complete, extensive automatic error checkingreviews the input to ensure that themodel makes sense from a “piping”perspective and warns of possiblemistakes. When satisfied that yourmodel is ready for analysis, yousimply tell CAESAR II to perform the analysis. Input and modelingcapabilities include:

Interactive GraphicsLet you walk around your model, takingyou just one step short of holding themodel in your hand. CAESAR II supportssingle-line, volume, wire frame and rendered graphics.

Factor (SIF) calculator and library• Multiple job batch processing• Automatic buried pipe modeling

Static AnalysisCapabilitiesCAESAR II begins a static analysisby recommending load cases neces-sary to comply with piping codestress requirements. In most casesusers choose the built-in defaultload cases but still have completefreedom to alter, add or delete load cases. This ability to performalgebraic combinations of displace-ments, forces and stresses freesyou to build your own load cases to suit specific problems.

CAESAR II allows you to analyze pip-ing and structural models together, and you can observe the effect of thenon-linear pipe-structure interactionboth graphically and numerically. The ability to interactively control the static analysis process providesyou with the most comprehensivesolution module available today.Static analysis capabilities include:

Automatic, Comprehensive Error Checking

Speeds the process and protects you from oversights.

Automatic or User-specified Load Cases

Recommends load cases for compliancewith the selected piping code using the loadcomponents specified in the model. If theprogram’s recommended analyses do notsuit you, you may build your own load cases.

Extensive Spring Hanger Selection Options

Provides numerous built-in manufacturercatalogs. CAESAR II permits hanger selec-tions to multiple thermal cases, cold orhot load design and standard or extendedload ranges. It selects the appropriatespring support from many manufacturers’catalogs based on a variety of proposedoperating and installation positions.

ASCE Wind Load GenerationLets you automatically apply and analyzewind load according to American Societyof Civil Engineers (ASCE) #7 or allows youto specify your own pressure or velocityprofile.

Thermal BowingProvides consideration of thermal gradienteffects in partially filled lines.

Nozzle Flexibilities and StressesIncludes nozzle flexibilities as defined in Welding Research Council (WRC)Bulletin 297, American Petroleum Institute(API) Standard 650 and British Standard (BS) 5500. It evaluates nozzle and vesselstresses using rules in WRC 297, WRC107 and ASME Section VIII Division 2.

Interactive model annotation eliminates input errors.

CAESAR II provides built-in databases for valves and flanges, expansion joints, materials, structural steel and much more.

Page 5: Caesar 2

Equipment Load ChecksPerforms load evaluations to the followingstandards:• Steam turbines (NEMA SM23)• Centrifugal pumps (API 610)• Centrifugal compressors (API 617)• Closed feedwater heaters (HEI)• Air cooled exchangers (API 661)

Flange Leakage and StressesIncludes simple leakage checks, ANSI B16.5 ratings and ASME Section VIII Division 1 stress calculations for evaluating flange loads.

Dynamic AnalysisCapabilitiesCAESAR II guides you through thespecification or acquisition of dataneeded for dynamic analysis.Dynamic analysis begins with thespecifications of the dynamic inputdata such as lumped masses, imposed vibration, snubbers andspectrum definitions. You can usethe built-in shock spectra or defineyour own. Dynamic analysis capa-bilities include:

Mode Shape and Natural Frequency Calculations

Saves you time since many operatingproblems can be examined or avoided by reviewing the system’s natural modesof vibration.

Harmonic Forces andDisplacements

Lets you evaluate the vibration responseof a damped system to a range of har-monic forces or displacements to simulatemechanical and acoustic line vibrations.

Shock Spectrum Analysis andIndependent Support Motion(Including Anchor Movements)

Includes independent support motion and library of NRC and UBC earthquakespectra. The program defaults to standardcalculation methods, or you may choosefrom a variety of modal and spatial summation methods.

Force Spectrum AnalysisAllows analysis of general impact loadssuch as water and steam hammer, slugflow and relief valve discharge. It includesa routine to convert time history loads intothe appropriate frequency response data.

Modal Time History AnalysisProvides an accurate and complete evalua-tion of the system response through timewhen the timing of dynamic loads is welldefined.

Animation of Dynamic ResponseHelps you verify simulations. Animatingmode shapes is one of the most valuabletools in diagnosing dynamic problems.CAESAR II also animates the results fromtime history analysis.

Missing Mass/Force CorrectionsImproves dynamic solution accuracy by accounting for system high frequencymodal response.

Static/Dynamic Load CombinationsAllows you to combine any variety ofdynamic and static loads to properlyaddress occasional load requirements of the piping codes.

Relief Valve Load Synthesis andForce Spectrum

Calculates dynamic thrust loads and tran-sient pressure increases from relief valves.
